  1. I was born in New Joisey (Jersey). Everyone thinks we say it like that, but we don't hehehehe I was raised in red-neck country (county I should say). I started with Tang Soo Do. Now I live in New York (in red-neck area yet again ...... sheesh I'm drawn to the boonies hehehehe). I do TKD now.
  2. Hey Phan. That was a cool movie. Good plot, and story line. Good fights, but the "flying" was a bit much.
  3. That's weird, tsdstud. I did TSD, but we called it Bassai Dai. I was with the International Martial Arts Assn. The hardest form for me to learn was Pyung ahn ee dan. But now it's one of my favorites. Eventhough I do TKD now, I still practice my TSD forms (specially pyung ahn ee dan). I saw a Shotokan school do the Pyung ahn forms (same forms, different names). If I compared it to my TSD school, I would say they were about the same. Both schools had very good technique. So I couldn't really compare the Korean version to the Japanese version. Eventhough the Shotokan school focused more on power. My TSD school focused more on "grace", making the form "flow". _________________ Laurie S. 4. Hey TSDstud. I love C.S. Kim. He is one of my favorate martial artist. I wish he had a school up here in the Mountains (Rochester area of NY).
  5. Same here, Kickchick. I do that now. I pick apart EVERYTHING lol. I wanna know the "how" (how it works) and the "why" (why it works).
  6. My old school used to. We had sparring in class, but not for the whole class, so my instructor had a "sparring clinic". We'd work on combos, drills, then sparring. It was a good work out for 2 hours. My new school has sparring once a week during half the class.
  7. Taokara. That was an awsome post. Can I print it out and show my master? It fits him to a T. I've been having problems lately, and he's been there for me. He's also a Kung Fu guy (on top of TKD). He's very understanding.
  8. Good post Koreantiger I never got my BB in TSD, so I wouldn't know. BUT, I do know that the first three you mentioned are very true. I'm VERY picky when it comes to technique. I want to be able to get whatever tech I learn just right, but some take years. I'll work on my BB in TKD and find out the rest
  9. I did. With a jurk that wouldn't take no for an answer. He followed me (from a bar on a board walk), grabbed me from behind, and took me down. He fell on his back with my back on him. I backfisted him in the nose, elbowed his ribs, and hammer fisted his nads. He let go. I got up, but he tried to follow again. He ran right into a side kick to the rib cage. He didn't get back up, and I walked away unhurt. I wasn't laughing then, but I am now. Jurks like that deserve it. I think I reacted right away, because I knew he had bad intentions (a 6th sense, I guess). The funny thing was is I was only a green belt then, and I lit him up hehehehehe. I think if I wasn't in MA when that happened, I would have tried to fight back, but I would have gone about it the wrong way, and got scared. But I stayed "level-headed" and used what I learned, eventhough it wasn't much, but affective
  10. I know of one of his schools in Cherry Hill NJ. I visited that school before I joined my TSD school. I wasn't impressed by it. I watched two classes (and I didn't know anything about martial arts or what to look for, and they still didn't impress me). I went to a tourny in August (mixed-style tourny) and his students were in it. There were 4 or 5 of them. Only one placed (first place in breaking), the rest sucked. I don't mean to sound like I'm putting them down, but They were trying outragous stuff, like a color belt trying to break three bricks ...... The guy who won on their team only broke boards with a 540, superman (running, jumping, and flying through the air and hitting the board with your fist) and a flash kick. He was good. But the rest of them were trying stuff that they were not ready for. They got their butts wooped in sparring by my school and a TKD school. I'm not saying all his schools are like that (I hope not), but that one wasn't too good. _________________ Laurie S. 11. Chris, doesn't he have a video series out, too? I think I remember looking it up, but the vids were way expensive.
  12. Hey Toe, If it's not normal, then we are all insane here Oh, and try turning lights off with an axe kick (with the toes) hehehehehe
  13. Hey, Hiya. I did Tang Soo Do in NJ. Then I moved to NY. Now I do TKD. Sometimes I do TSD high block instead of a TKD one (yes they are different ..... chambering is different). Or I'll do a self defense move the way I was taught in TSD during TKD class. But that's only when I'm really tired during class and have a brain fart I'm also looking for a different art to complement my TKD training. I think I can handle two arts. As long as the forms are WAY different, because that can get confusing for me to learn two new forms at once lol. But that's just me
  14. Hiya Pizza. Na, I don't do the "girly house wife" stuff Sorry. But I do cook a mean omlet hehehehehe. And Oh, I can cook a mean steak ...... mmmmmmmmmmm
  15. Phantasmatic, We most be related We have a lot in common.
  16. Hiya Jack. I knew that, but I perfer step sparring over free sparring
  17. I like metal (mostly old school like Metallica, ect), classic rock (Zepplin, Hendrix, Sabbath, ect), and newer stuff (like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Kid Rock, Stain, ect).
  18. Hapkido? It's an art I wanna learn but isn't available here
  19. Hiya Ksn. Step sparring is pre-arranged couters and strikes. One person plays the attacker, the other plays the defender. For instance, if my attacker punches, I have to block and counter .... knife-hand block, punch to the face, solarplex (sp?), or ribs. Or if my attacker throws a front kick, I do a low block and knife-hand strike ect. It gets harder the farther up the ranks you go. You have to block and do more than one strike and/or defense. I like step sparring. I'm not a big fan of free sparring. Step sparring is better, because it prepares you for blocks, counters/strikes of all kinds. It helps you with speed and timing. And you can aim for vital areas. In free sparring, you can't.
  20. Ow dang, Phantasmatic But I still get carded (which means I look 18). Does that count?
  21. Best Of The Best (the first one) the fights at the end in Korea tourny. Jackie Chan in Drunkin Master (all fights), Rush hour 1 and 2. Pretty much all his newer movies are cool. Jet Li in the One (fighting himself), and in The Young Master. The one he plays the student who searches for his master's killer (I forget the name). Great fights. The Quest has some good fights. Different styles of MA fighting each other was interesting. And oh, the movies that got me interested in MA in the first place ..... Karate Kid (all three) ..... Can't ya tell by my screen name ...... Oh Lord, I feel old now....... I like the fights at the end of the movies mostly. And when Miyagi kicked that crap outta the boys that were beating on Daniel (the first one) hehehehe. The little ol' man beatin the crap outta 4 or 5 guys. It was soooooo funny.
  22. Hey, Phantasmatic. I'm lookin for a job! I can do martial tricks I'm not a very good actress though ..... well I never really tried hehehehe
  23. Those old Kung Fu movies. Yick Just my opinion. I ain't bashin the people who like them, though.
  24. Hiya Death. I'm 27 and unemployed hehehehehe My old man pays for TKD, so I don't have to worry about MA. Other than that, I'm flat broke hehehehehe
