  3. I agree with killer to a certain extent he is correct in the fact that if your breathing is correct when you are performing the movements not only will you find that your technique is better but you will find that you get less tired. I disagree with the fact that he said you will not be tired, because you will be. I dont think there is anyone that would be able to do that amount of physical exercise and not be out of breath. But the breathing will make this less off an issue as you will be aerobically respriating instead of anerobically where you have to 'catch up' at the end in your breathing. I think all you can do is work on your stamina also you may actually be trying too hard if you tense up you will find that you get tired a lot faster than if you are relaxed when doing your movements. However im sure as a dan grade you know this so its probably not an issue but something to be aware of just in case. I think for kata stamina you just have to practice the sequence of all the kata over and over to build up your stamina.
  4. When i was going to the gym regularily i used to do 2 miles in about 15.40 or so i would be able to a mile faster outside but i havent been timed long distance isnt really my thing im a short distance person

  8. Thats about $4 shotokan kez I used to pay the same for years and then the club was taken over by someone else . I then payed about $54 dollars a month but that was because i trained only once a week if i had trained more it would be about $100. This year for kung fu I payed about that for the whole year so but it is a university club and we are all strapped for cash so i mean it has to be cheap.
  9. Its what I love to do. Even when I stopped training at christmas mainly out of frustration and work load I missed it. Its just simply what I do.
  10. That is the lineage http://www.hungkuen-kungfu.com/history_lineage.htm
  11. Tai sabaki is practiced in Shorin-ryu as well. But the purposes of blocks all fall back to intention of the defender. Ideally, the best defense is to not be in range. But if you are out of their range, odds are they're out of yours as well unless you have a destinctive reach advantage. That would make an immediate (or simultaneous) counter strike nearly impossible. I am gong to have to disagree merely based on technicalities. The end position would be the same, but the actual block would be different. If you are connecting with the double bone method and then rotating your forearm, the initial contact is going to be with the thick meaty part of your forearm. The rotation to end in the same position would only serve as an attempt to guide their arm away as you state. This blocking method will reduce the initial impact of the block as your muscles absorb some of the impact and lessen the amount of energy you would transfer to your opponent. The single bone method advocates creating that initial impact with the side of your forearm so your radius bone impacts your opponents arm, transferring more energy and force into your opponent's limb. Similar, yes. The same, no. I dont really want to get into a discussion of what is the correct technique but the only difference is the twist at the end as far as I have been taught and in my experience so I can only really go on that, but if i was to just block with the radius and create the intial impact with that bone then I would have broken my wrist many times as stated in the article this way would hurt therefore I would never use it.
  12. Practice your footwork good footwork= not geting hit, good footwork=more power when you hit, good footwork=more speed.
  13. I have always been taught that the side forarm blocks can also be used as strikes which they can. The flat forearm block is a block, it could not be used as effectivly if it was used as a strike. Also we actually do block with the flat of the arm we just add a twist i make contact and then twist in the hope that it will move the opponents arm further away. So actually if done correctly the traditional blocks are no different.
  14. I dont really understand your technique but it sounds very interesting what part of the foot do you strike with?
  15. You should train if you have the time to limit yourself just to one teacher and one style would be ignorant. If you dont like it then so what, carry on with your current training but i think that in order to improve as a martial artist you need to find out what this other guy and school is like
  16. run skip run skip and oh run some more haha:P
  17. I just had a thought tonight when I was watching some videos on youtube what is everyone's opinion on Bruce Lee and what have people learned from him?. Forget his acting films are for show and entertainment he wouldnt have really fought like that. I think that there is no argument in the fact that he was a good martial artist but what were his strengths and weaknesses? im just hoping to learn something that could help me improve. I would like to know what you all really think
  18. When i get my barbell back from home im at uni:P Currently doing bicep curls with dumbells which i like. I really like the clean and press tho

  20. Does anyone else do this type of kung fu i have just started and want to know more about the history, forms, grade structure etc
  21. Dont physcially try to hit hard just intend to and if you combine this with the correct power sourcing from the feet, foot, leg, hip, waist, shoulders, arm, forearm and then the wrist. once you can hit like this then the relaxation will come.
  22. I know people that have started alot older than that just go for it
  23. That is terrible still made me smile though
  24. Well coming through like an upper cut is just an uppercut it is not the technique however you can do it either way i was always taught you can end the movement like an upper cut in that when you open your body at the start of the technique arm starts out wide and as you step through you can either bring the arm across or through and across with twist at the end. Hope that helps
  25. WOW that is seriously hot there is no way that i think you can properly concentrate in that heat after a long workout so i take it you would do your fine movements at the start? I struggle when its 80 i find that way too hot i like it room temperature all the time
