  1. Enter the Dragon Plus Tony Jaa Films all of them. I really want to see Drunken Master never seen it yet.
  2. Interesting talk about flexibility. I have been researching it myself as I have been wanting to improve my flexibility further I have been a bit lazy you see. Age is not so important just make sure you drink lots of water and don't expect to progress as fast as younger people. If its something you really want to be able to do ie kick to the head then im sure you will be able to achieve it. Here is some info that will help you For kicking you want to work on dynamic flexibility http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php?page=content/flexibility
  3. If I remember correctly we had to do All Heian Katas if asked as well as Tekki or Basai Dai And choose two from the following. Kanku Dai, Jion, Jitte, Enpi I never did the grading but I think my choice was Kanku Dai and Jion.
  4. Very Good Points I will just add a few things. You need to work out you basic metabolic rate (this can be done on the net) and then subtract 500 calories in order to lose weight or add 500 to add weight. Cardio is not the only way of loosing weight. Weight training will work due to the burning of excess calories just like running. Weight training has a benefit over cardio as well. It improves your strength which will give you more muscle. More muscle means more calories being burnt when your not doing anything. This is good. You are burning fat when you are not doing exercise. If you are going to do cardio do HIIT or Tabata(Google them if you not sure there is lots of info) . Much more effective than steady state mainly because it keeps you heart rate higher. Sufficient Sleep Is very important there have been several studies that show that most overweight people don't get enough sleep. Also eating complex carbs instead of simple ones is better. Protein is a big subject. You need roughly 2g per lb of body weight. This helps add muscle which as we know reduces fat. 2g may be a little excessive so just aim for what you feel is right. If weight training 3 times a week should be sufficient. Running I would do everyday. Skipping is also amazing and will improve your martial art footwork. Cycling everyday as well. Even if you cannot do more than 20mins when you do that everyday it all ads up and in a month you will really feel the difference. Also you are quite correct for men the last fat to go is on your belly.
  5. Yea I would also like to give it a try but I haven't come across any schools in the UK. I saw it on human weapon and it looks pretty good fun.
  6. Happy Christmas From London!!!! I hope you all have a great time. Oh and if there is time don't forget to throw some punches
  7. This stretch is bad for knees. Its just some people can feel it more than others. I find if you point your toes outwards it works better and is more comfortable.
  8. Very well done Sounds like you did really well. Now I believe heian nidan comes next if I can remember my karate days:P
  9. Woo Tai Chi I love it. I actually miss practicing it haven't done so since I was 16. Pushing hands is amazing fun im sure you will enjoy it. TKD is a good art as well, im sure you will be kicking people in no time
  10. I prefer outside that way its easier to execute a throw or take down after a hit
  11. As far as I am concerned Ki really is just a mentality All those so called Ki tricks are just based in bio mechanical principles and some bravery.
  12. It did look sloppy But that's the thing about fighting the person with the best technique often doesn't win. Strength, endurance, hitting power can all more than make up for poor technique.
  13. People sometimes forget that JKD is named the 'Way of the Intercepting Fist' Above all you must intercept, always.
  14. I have heard various things about different stretches. The problem is you never really know until you get injured. I do the ones that are comfortable and the ones that are not comfortable I do not do. I imagine that its the same for everyone some are easier than others.
  15. I've heard good things about the Captain of Crush grippers for quite some time now. I've been wanting a tougher gripper than the ones I have now, so I decided to order a #1 gripper to try out. I wasn't sure whether I should start with the trainer or the #1, but since I've already done strength training on my forearms for quite some time now, I decided to start with the #1. If its too tough, then I can just go back and order the Trainer. I was going to do the same thing actually, I weight train but my forearms are terrible. When I deadlift im sure I can lift more but my grip always gives out. Im probably going to get the trainer, number 1 and 2. Its cheaper on shipping if I buy more. Towel Pull ups are also very effective.
  16. Regular is difficult She needs to sort out the rest of her time so she can not come up with an excuses not to do it. On the other hand I need to do this as well
  17. Do it, im not a doctor but the more you do something the more coordinated you become so im sure it would help you regain some control. Best of Luck

    Time in grade

IMHO, this is a valid grievance to not succeed, thus lacking an attempt to further study something or somewhere else. I agree with Richard. The time in is about loyalty to your club. and your dedication to its members. Karate should last you your whole life. So whats to rush to shodan? Because I felt I was not being rewarded for quality. I also felt I was not learning anything, the path of the arts is different for every individual. Karate no longer worked for me, I read something called The Tao of JKD and it opened my eyes. I realized how limited I was and how weak in certain areas I was. They could not be corrected through karate alone, I felt I had learned all there was to learn. After a certain stage you just refine. Just as a sculptor starts by taking off big chunks, as he progresses he chisels smaller and smaller chunks.
  19. A Pen We should all carry one extremely useful, as a Kubaton is illegal in the UK. There are lots Mini Maglight Keys Credit Cards Mobile Phone Necklace/Chains Bottle of Water Books Rucksack Glasses Coins My personal favorite your fist
  20. He is indeed he taught my instructor when I did karate.
  21. I haevn't done kata for about 4 years as I don't do karate anymore However I still know Heian Shodan. As with any kata body involvement not just the hands is really the thing. Lots of crisp movements with a slight pause to differentiate Oh and do it like this guy
  22. I heard about this yesterday actually. Its very hard to judge Patrick. They both have phenomenal speed, both have knockout punches and both are extremely well conditioned. As much as I love to see Manny fight I just can't see him winning personally. Mayweather has possibly the best defense I have seen from a boxer. I think Manny will give him a good fight but I think it will be Mayweathers just on points.
  23. I really really want to see it, im not sure if it has come out over here. I imagined it would be a bit like 300 with Ninja's. Saw the trailer about 3 Months ago. And 300 was an amazing film.
  24. Thanks I hope to contribute even more this month.
