Not Necessarily , Mas. Funakushi was short and yet he is the father of modern karate , Morihei Ueshiba sensei ( O-sensei ) was short and he founded aikido !!!! Kenji Midori is not that tall and he won the 5th World Open kyokushinkai Tournament (1991) , ( not street but it's full contact )

self defense for preachers
y2_sub replied to kyokushin_coe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would go with that as well . Also aikido contains a lot of defenses against weapons , and standup grappling arts in general are easier to master . Man.. that sounds like old shaolin , teaching martial arts in church , however , you must inform them that weapons are not a joke . -

Russians seem to be made of steal , lol .. About switching to IKO 3 , my original sensei stopped instructing at the dojo 6 month ago , so I had two options : the first was to stay at the dojo and train under a nidan who - in my opinion - is not that good , and the second was to check the other kyokushin dojos .Bottom line : best instructor i found was an IKO 3 representative .

Hello guys I got my Ipon after two other strikes to the stomach , the tournament was the " 4th Liberation Kyokushin Karate Tournament" in my homecountry of Lebanon and that was my first match against a local fighter , the second fight was against a guy from kuwait , i won that one as well (mawashi geri to the head) , and the final fight was against a russian ( tough dude ) he won by decision so i placed second I guess you can find lots of informations about kyokushin in the U.S. and Canada in the site https://www.kyokushincanada.com , sechdules , dojos , instructors ............ , or try a google search , i would be happy to see you returning to kyokushinkai Kenpo_fighter , good luck with that

kenpo vs kickboxing
y2_sub replied to wingedsoldier's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
as what elbows_and_knees said , just because kickboxing is sport oriented dosn't meen that they it is not usefull in the street . Think about it , if a kickboxer is able to knockdown his opponent wearing gloves , what's he able to do with bear knuckle hands ?? -
My little brother got beaten today

Congratulations on the black belt Sam -
Does anyone know anything about Ashihara karate ? or the sebakai challenge , some claim that ashihara was designed as a counter-kyokushin style , and others say that it's a kyokushin complement or "what kyokushin is missing" style ,any way , from what i know it's hard karate style , kyokushin offset , focus a lot more on circular motion . How about the competition rules in ashihara ??????

Kyokushin is great .. pure hardcore and one of the best styles around , i practice kyokushin myself , i am nidan , i have been in kyokushin for about 8 years now , and i was in iko1 but now witched to iko3 ( kansho matsushima ) . Anyway , keep the good work , OSU ..

Agreed. Lol. Kenpo_fighter , it's not only the case in Japan , it's all over the world , the last time i fought under kyokushin rules ( 3 weeks ago ) , I hit my opponent REAL hard on the stomach , he actually bended with the strike , i thought they will reward me an ipon ........... the ref continued the fight as nothing happened (but that was my opening , lol ..)

kenpo vs kickboxing
y2_sub replied to wingedsoldier's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I have never been in a kempo dojo myself , but from what i have heard and read , kempo is designed for self defense and stresses hand techniques , kempo = kenpo . Anyway , kickboxing is initially a martial sport designed for karate-ka who want to fight in a full contact environment "Full contact karate" , kickboxers are fast , powerful , and they know how to effectively use there forearms , kickboxing requires lot of conditioning and kickboxing matches seems to be hard , sometimes brutal if you add low kicks to the mix... I had a black belt in kickboxing myself (stopped doing kickboxing 2 years ago ) and believe me , you do not want to mess with a good kick boxer on the street , his attacks can prove to be devastating .. since both kickboxing and kempo are great , it would be nice to see a kick boxer vs. a kempo guy in k-1 . -
My little brother got beaten today
y2_sub replied to y2_sub's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's exactly why I didn't break the fight between them , i always defend my brother , he always comes to me when he needs help , i am like his problem solver , so i wanted him to " stand and fight " cause i am not always there . Any way , the reason of the fight - since many of you guys asked about it - is : the other boy started calling him names so what my brother did is pushing him , and then he applied a wrestling choke hold on him ( not Greco-roman wrestling , talking here about the " fake " professional wrestling - WWE type - kids are crazy about it these days ) and then he took him to the ground , that's how the fight started . As for my brother , he is not the fat ugly geek type , he's taller then the other kids his age and a little bit overweight , anyway ,needs to be fit . He doesn't like karate , i tried over and over with him , i signed him an a kyokushin dojo ( where I go ) and shotokan at school , but he always quit after the second class ,he likes soccer a lot though . -
I was on my way home today when I say my little brother ( 10 years old fat boy ,loll ) fighting with his friend and the other kids watching them , any way , my bro was bigger than the other boy but that didn't help him defeating him , that’s not the point , the point is , my brother was "Slapping" (open hands ) while the other boy was punching " using his knuckles " , what I did is , instead of separating them , I told my bro to use his fist and was actually cheering him , now , I feel bad about myself , my brother and the other boy since they were both hurt , in the other hand I think that was a good experience for him , I mean fighting in the street may help him build his character , what do u think ??

kenpo vs kickboxing
y2_sub replied to wingedsoldier's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
just different spellings .. Kenpo = Kempo as far as i know What are the kenpo competition rules anyway ?? -
Sorry for the generalization , I guess it's because when one says TKD , he means Olympic style TKD , any way .. Not any WTF TKDer uses blocks normally , however , some of those guys do I have a question , in sport TKD can you block a kick using the chin ??? I fought under TKD rules before but didn’t got a warning after using that type of block !!!!!!!

most powerful kick
y2_sub replied to brawler1245's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
jumping left Back spin kick roll kick ( very powerfull but always miss the target ) Those were the most powerfull kicks , most effective kicks are front kick and low roundhouse kick
