In the experience i've seen, the kicker can block punches just fine - their arms are live and defensive the whole time - but some of those kicks if you try to block them, all that's going to happen is that when you get clobbered it will be by your own hand and arm after the kick blows through the block like it wasn't there.Unreasonable to think you can keep someone at that range indefinately, but then again, it's unreasonable to think that you can keep someone at boxing range indefinately. Than why a boxer will defeat a TKD guy with ease ??????

Some people say that one of the disadvanteges of kyokushin is the number of injuries among kyokushin students , well , that i agree with , i have been injured in lots of places and wheenever i have tournament or things like that , i get injured , but it's not that serious thow , sooner or latrer will recover , and it's good to know what a real strike can do to the human body

in kyokushin, you can't hit in the face, correct? In venues where face shots are allowed, you should believe in a mouthguard too. Ya , we can't hit the face , you haven't read that i do Muai tai as well , and i had a black belt in kickboxing .. but still , cause my background is initially kyokushin , i disslike mouthguard cause i can't do the hissing thing i do in kyokushin rounds, if i am to choose , i will never put it in my mouth ....

i can understand why you can't hit on the back , but below belly ?? do you mean that low kicks and leg sweaps are dinied ????? what about knees to the leg , denied as well ?? thats more like TKD , whering gear and no hits below belt .. i don't belive in protective gears also ( unless if they are gloves )

Yes.. thats true, even belts order may varry from one dojo to another , that depends on the personallity of the instructor ..

Do people punch differently today? Do people kick differently today? Did people in the past have more or less arms and legs than we do today? Exactly how its it different? No . people had arms and legs and even they had eyes and hair like today , they didn't have computers thow the thing that they had and we don't is the determination , i mean , practicing moves whenever they can , in temples ( prists ), in their daily life , going to dojo or temple or what ever they go to EVERY SINGLE DAY , etc... The nutrition was different , they used to eat healthy food , do we ?? There way of life was different , they used to work in farming , mining , in army , we work in front of a computer monitor doing nothing else than hitting a keyboard .. Plus , martial arts where really martial arts that are used in combat or for defending themselves , so they had to be extremly good , cause there lives depended on it , what we do know is much like a martial sport rather than a martial art , you and i believe in martial arts effectiveness , they actually applied that " effectiveness" in thier daily life , so if i can't kill someone from a hand knife which is practiced in kata , they have done it

Circular vs. Linear
y2_sub replied to TBlow's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Excuse me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! may your grand master plz display how can he do so ?? i guess he's in a higher level , any way , i have seen such things in movies , you must be doing a flaying technique or something -
That was a valuble post , it cleared a lot of points , i guess you never know enough about something unless you do it or ask someone who allready done it , by the way i have been informed that Goju ryu students participate in shotokan style tournaments , do u know anything about it ???
-
You got a good point there , and thats also why most of the people who train in a martial arts class , quit after a while , cause they don't have the WILL to continue , they just want to reach the top of the ladder

Circular vs. Linear
y2_sub replied to TBlow's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
No, a straighter line is definitely a shorter path than a long one. A circular attack is much stronger than i linear attack , a linear attack is faster , and from my experience , i have noticed that it's much easier to use circular techniques , whats best is a combination of both -
Thx a lot .. I allready know that Goju Ryu prefers realistic approches , i want to know more about tournaments , not rules , i mean what you feel is right and wrong in the fighting system , and i have never been in a Goju class so i want to know what happens within the walls of the dojo , is it lik typical shotokan class ??? it sure has differances , you know..

I have seen once , in a kyokushin tournament a fat short guy , who was about 160 pounds , verry short according to his weight , any way , i was surprised by his agility and his speed , in fact he defeated most of the fighters in his categorie , that oppose the theorie that says all fat are slow

All i am saying is there are some moves in kata that where suitable in the past , not in hour days , i don't mean they are not usefull at all , if you train 12 hours per day 7 days per week , you will get to do them right and "break thorow opponents estomach with your bear hands " .. but who is doing so actually ? when i say so to my sensei (about kata) he says : give me 10 push ups , quick !!!! anyhow i still belive in it .. Thx a lot for the websites , i allready know about goju ryu's history , i needed a student's opinion osu ...

Dark shogun I never said Kata is useless , i agree with you that lots of great techniques can be tought using kata , stances , strikes , etc.... Kata is also great in building spirit , but , are all kata moves usefull ??? you can extract 50% of kata moves that are really effective , and the rest is a showoff , usefull moves are the moves used also in kihon , by that i don't mean the kihon we do for tournaments , i mean all basics .. any way , you must agree with me that there are some unrealistic kata moves , think about it .. can you please tell me about goju ryu ??? i need some infos for a little research i am doing ..

AnonymousOne said in an early post tha he can tell all about someone just from watching him performing the basics and kata ... if you go to dojo , any dojo , you will c a lot of people performing great moves , but are they good in a ring ?? not necessarily , face it , there are many other factors like controlling your fear , the fatigue , the PAIN , getting hit and hit back , etc .... About kata , there are many great schools who have world class athletits , and do not perform any form of kata , in fact they don't have any form of basics stances that are usually used in shotokan and other karate schools , i never saw a MT payer doin' kata . so kata is not that important , after all imaginary oponents don't hit back ... so you can not tell anything about someone unless you step with him in the ring
-
The fact that a highly trained martial artist won't start any trouble of any kind is totally remarkable .. any how you might have to fight against them in a K-1 like competition .. well there is no rules controlling that case cause it depends on what style you do and what style your opponent does , what if you have to fight against a grappler ?? of course a Kyokushin Karateka will act in a different way than a boxer ...

i think no one underestimates fat or big guys or else this forum will not be existing , lol ... i agree that a big guy who does some training , might be lethal even if he is not that fast , you got me ?? any way , i also don't think that big fat guys are always slow , sometimes they are faster than skinny ones ...

Your Art
y2_sub replied to sansoouser's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I study kiokushin karate and muhai tai , i am open to any other martial art but my true passion is kyokushin , i just love it , maybee because , in many ways , it's a realistic art who focus on effective moves only , and beacuse of it's knock down system . I have been in muhai tai for 3 years till now , and it's an excellent style ,i love it , but not as much as kyokushinkai... i have a question , whats Silat ??? any informations ??
