  1. I wear my Gi in the dojo , and sometimes i waer it while training alone , otherwise i wear shorts and t-shirt . If i am training for kumitee i prefer to put the Gi on .
  2. Hopefully it would stay out of the olympics , it's allready watred down , that would make it loose it's "spirit". Talking about Shotokan karate here , right ???
  3. Thx for your post , it inspired me . It happens that i just lost a big match tonight and was so depressed ( still depressed but i MUST work harder to defeat that guy next time )
  4. So there is a style of judo that stresses Ne waza like in BJJ ??? Either ways BJJ is an offshoot of Kano's Judo .
  5. Maybee , i am not sure , i supposed it was Kimura since he's famous for beating Helio Garcie
  6. Kyokushinkai inherited from shotokan as Sosai oyama ( Kyokushin founder ) trained under Master Funakushi for 3 years . Basicly most of the stances , moves and blocks used by Shotokan are also used by Kyokushinkai , however , the way you use those techniques is not the same . Kata and stances are haveily stressed in shotokan ( as mentioned b4 ) , an a shotokan training session , one performs a small variaty of moves many times from different stances , alone or combined with other moves in order to master ur moves. Kyokushin stresses stances and kata , but also is famous for its knock-down system of fighting , in another word , fighting is central in kyokushinkai in order to know the real power of your techniques and the endurance of human body . A larger variaty of techniques is taught in a kyokushin session since lots of high kicks and other techniques are not emphasized in shotokan ( i have never seen a shotokan karteka performing a knee or an elbow strike ) . Fighting system in sotokan is semi contact point fighting while in kyokushin it's knock down full contact system katas are also different , + some of kyokushin katas are inherited form goju ryu . kyokushin movement is circular and linear while shotokan is basicly linar . Also some moves are slightly different , like the mawashi geri , visit http://www.kyokushinmail.com/koya/KickInstruction.htm for more informations Shotokan and kyokushin are both great , i highly respect shotokan , however , kyokushin is more suited to me ..
  7. Makiwara can never be as a human body , from the way i c it , it is similar to the human chest in the way it " absorbes the strike " . The only training equipment that i found similar to a human body is a type of training bags that are filled with water .
  8. Makiwara is whats missing here .. i would go with kicking shields and the idea of filling an army bag with sand is both traditional and effective
  9. We have a makiwara in our dojo but i have never used it since i had green belt , i use a sandbag insted
  10. True , there was a kodokan Judo legend named Masahiko Kimura. he is one of the few who ever defeated Helio garcie .
  11. Congratiulations , wish you the best
  12. I got my first dan since about three years now ( my age is 22 ) and i am still in a good shape , maybee because i am still training to compete , i just finished my college education and wish that life , work , getting married and all that stuff won't keep me from training . Best luck for all
  13. I'd like a date please, I happen to study chinese history and I want to see if you can back that bold statement... let me check my sources 1st ; its not that i underestimatesan soo
  14. To a tournament , i only bring my courage ( most important ) and the GI
  15. Fransisco Filho as he is a Kyokushin and K-1 legend . Royama was a great fighter of kyokushinkai in his days
  16. tensho ; no exact reason . i just like it
  17. Thast true if one is only training on the bag . From what i understoud from previous posts , your background is Muay tai .. the principle of movement differs from Muay tai to kyokushin , in Muay tai , one usually moves in and out , avoiding some hits , sometimes waiting for the opponent to strike , etc , etc .. thats not the case in kyokushin where most of fights are " no turning back fights " , when the striking begains , it only stops when the round is over , insted of avoiding a strike , kyokushin fighter absorbes it ( or blocks it ) , i don't know if you got my point , you won't understand what i am talking about unless you do it , a kyokushin karateka must be solid as a rock , movment is less important than power ( power , movement and then technique , Oyama's order) . if you want to fight, don't half step - fight. you can't really FIGHT with people in your gym - that's where competition comes in. sparring is a training exercise, as is bagwork. competition is where you fight. That's not to say that you can't spar hard - you should. but the mentality of that is not the same as the one present in the ring. Agreed , thats what i am talking about in the first place , one can only use all his moves in competition or the street , sparing and bagwork are complement to each others , and very important . I want to ask you a question here , WHERE ARE THE BASICS ?????
  18. Vernix .. It's my first time to read anything like that about Oyama , However , they might be right after all , Oyama is just a human not a god . As for "Oyama didn't knew any thing about grappling " ??????????????????? any avarage striker knows a minimum ammount of grappling , moreover , even if he didn't knew any judo , he had a 9th dan in goju ryu , we all know that goju contain some throws and takedowns ... Indeed , Oyama is not a god , lots of legends has been tailed about him , but he is not an avarage human as well .
  19. Remember Tayson vs Holyfield ????
  20. Jujutsu is not Sumo derivitive as far as i know , it has been influanced by Sumo but has chinese origins .. is Jujutsu and JiuJitsu the same ????? jujutsu cannot be verifiably linked to china... there is actually a debate about that going on on the chinese arts forum. As for the spellings, yes, they are the same. jujutsu is the most correct romanization. jiu jitsu is a less correct form. However, that name was adopted by the brazilians when bjj was created. so these days, jujutsu is associated with the japanese style and jiu jitsu with the brazilian. Some sources say that jujutsu have started in greece and transported to india by alexander the great's campaign , china , and the japan
  21. Flashy kicks NEVER works , not in a competition , or a real situation

    YELLOW BELT

what is the belt order in shotokan ??? ( have no time to do a search )
  23. Not always , when striking the bag , it's going to move , so you might want to move with it , thats where u aquire some movement . There are some persons who just stand there and strike , usually they use hand strikes and low kicks , since those moves don't require a great deal of movement . I said that you might aquire some movement from bag training , the same movement that you'l aquire while punshing air . Real movement is gained by training and sparing with a human , the same idea is still present , no basics. sometimes you just want to FIGHT . In military drills , they just bombard an empty area with all the weapons that they have . No real target is present . taht experience aquired from targetting an empty area , is actually used on the battlefield , same goes for that bag .
