  6. 7 to 10 minutes walk / never drive there . Don't pay fees ( in fact they pay me for instructing the junior class )
  7. Another article that supports White Warlock's post : There is another story behind the decision of karate belt colours. This is that the old grand masters began their karate training wearing a white belt. As they continued to practice day in, day out they never washed their belts, leading to their white belts becoming black belts! (as the belt got dirtier and dirtier they went from white to red-ish to yellow, then darker, to orange......brown, and finally black.) Obviously the stage of the colours would not come about in reality...although a dirty belt may go yellowish and brown, colour such as orange, blue and purple, make this story hard to believe, although it is a very nice myth...
  8. I didn't feel comfortable while exploring the website , i am not a big fan of "Animal styles" thing .
  9. The primary goal of kyokushin kumite is to knock down your opponent . you can win a match by scoring an ippon ( full point ) which is any legal move that knocks the opponent for more than 3 seconds and makes him loose his will to fight You can win by waza-ari ( half point ) which is any legal move that knocks down the opponent for less than 3 seconds wazari+wazari = ippon you can also win by descision , if you are the overall better fighter
  10. I was wondering about it's origins myself , as for the other kick you mentioned, it's just another variation of it .
  11. Find the "martial downloads" on the main page and then choose historical battles .
  12. Ah.. i c , it's good to know that kyokushin in denver is strong , like in the rest of the world
  13. I payed 250$$ for my nidan certificate from japan
  14. Thanks guys ... I'll keep that in mind
  15. Yes , i also think UFC is brutal for non professional martial artists
  16. I recently downloaded a clip showing a kyokushin karateka vs a kung fu guy ( the title says kyokushin vs wing chun but i really think his style was drunkin fist ) . i found it on https://www.kyokushintoday.com in the martial downloads section .
  17. I didn't base it on one tape , and i DO respect Tai Chi but don't belive in it's effectivness .
  18. Yes , i downloaded it from the net , i think i found it on https://www.kyokushintoday.com
  19. Yeah .. me too
  20. I never wash my belt . You know that reminds me with an article that i have read , quoting from it : "Speaking of white and black, these are the only colors of the belt that are "original". The entire concept of adding various colors to designate rank was added when karate began being taught to US servicemen in Japan. The original idea of a "black" belt was due to the use the belt got and its age. A student would start his training with a white belt. Over the years, as the student trained and practiced, sweated and bled, the belt would get dirtier and dirtier. Eventually, the belt would be "black". If the student trained long enough for the belt to get this color, they probably knew what they were doing (or they trained in a REALLY dirty dojo). "
  21. Lol , yeah ..Way to go Meguro
  22. Easy , find any kyokushin school or one of it's offsets , Kyokushin training is as hard as boxing if not harder , and they usually get lots of "live" training .
  23. I would go with Eagle Claw since i don't believe in tai chi . I have watched a tape yesterday showing tai chi vs. white crane kung fu , the tai chi guy was slaughtered , it was a descent fight as a hole and didn’t show the real meaning of kung fu
  24. I also do since i instruct the junior class . I also train at home , I do push ups , sit ups , katas and sparring drills , and i have recently installed a Makiwara at home . I do lifting at the gym so thats not considered as home training
  25. Okinawan karate contains a lot of grappling in it while kyokushin is all about striking (90% striking ,10 % grappling ) , however , karate's grappling in general is designed to be used against a non grappler , how effective would it be against an experienced MMA fighter ??? It's not weither it contains grappling or not , it's how effective would it be if you mix it with a good grappling art , judo for instance !!!
