  1. It has been an learning experaince, however a crappy one. I will voice my opinion about this place when I'm out of it. Until then, I will remain quiet. I would like to comment on something that was said from an instructor above. "No instructor should keep a student that doesn't want to be there any longer" Whether this be due to financial reasons, or lack of interest. I have had my eyes opened to a true Dojo, and a "McDojo". As I said, I will go into detail after this is over, but for now, for my sake, I will keep my mouth shut! Thanks for all the advice
  2. I too didn't know that. Thanks again for the great info! I have a really good idea on how to handle this. It's going to take some time, but it will work.
  3. Thanks for the great info! I will take all into consideration and execute what I can.
  4. Well.... there is no way without a medical reason to get outta the contract. But... I gotta plan
  5. Thanks for the tips. I just want this to be over.
  6. Called back, not there. I'll try back again in another hour. Trying to give them the benifit of the doubt, but I just need to get the knocked out.
  7. I'm in Maryland. I have read the contract front to back. I see nothing on there about wanting to cancel without any medical/moving circumstance. I don't see anything about fee's for canceling. I'm about to call back again, and hopefully I can talk with the head instructor. He does seem to care, hopefully he will and let me out. I will let you know what I hear in about 20 minutes.
  8. No, I agree. But... when I first signed up, money wasn't an issue, and I like the class.
  9. This would be your out. Your fiance is sick and you are paying her medical bills. **Wait the 11 days and she will be your wife.** Due to her health, you will no longer be able to pay your contract. Pay your $150 and walk. When you start martial arts again, pick a different school. $200 a month is extremely out of line with anything I have ever seen! Never sign a 3 year contract. Thanks! I hope that will work. Yes, it's very expensive, and I was very naive. I have learned a lot since then, and I will carry that with me to my next dojo when I start again. You don't think there is anyway that they can make me remain there, do you? I mean, the contract doesn't say anything about quiting.
  10. I hope they're like this. I can't imagine wanting to keep someone who cannot attend do to problems that just came up. I mean, that is just bad business. It's not like I'm bashing the dojo, I just cannot afford it anymore
  11. That would be almost $8,000. That's $7,800 more than I have
  12. Thanks guys. I ran home and looked at the contract, it didn't say anything about being able to cancel, or a fee if I did cancel. It only talked about medical and moving cancelation fees. They were $150 to get out. I don't care if I have to pay $200 to cancel, I just need out. My wife to be (In 11 days) just got mono, and I will be paying all the bills for the next month, due to her being out of work (she has no disability) I know that 3 weeks ago, this wasn't an issue. Yes, the price was high, but it was a good school at the time. Now, it just a pain. Not to mention, I just got turned down on my raise that I was promised. Now that money it going to be really tight, I need out. The instructor is very kind, but I also think he's a business man. I mean, this is a 3 year program that I signed up for, but what happens when a student is no longer happy, or just loses intrest. You mean to tell me there is no way out? This is rediculous. I have called twice, still haven't returned my calls. I don't want to get a lawyer involved, mainly because I don't think there is anything they can do. It's a legal binding contract, it's just a load of crap. I can't believe it's writen this way.
  13. Well, I have decided that I can't afford this class. $200 a month. I sucks because I just signed the contract 2 weeks ago for 3 years. Stupid me, not reading the contract.... I was all cool about it, until some finacial problems came into play, and not it's almost inpossible for me to make this payment. I called the bank that the contract goes through, and they told me that I can't get outta the fee. I'm stuck for 3 years. I laughed, and said "Every contract can be broken, there is just a fee" She told me to contact the school and see what they can do, cause the contract is through them. I'm still waiting to hear back from the school on this. They have to let me out of the contract, right? I mean... I'll have to pay for it, but there is no way that I can be made to pay if I can't afford it. What happens if someone doesn't feel that they're into this anymore, or if they don't like the school after 4 months? There has to be a way out! I mean, you can get out of your house lease, and cell phone bills early, you jhave to pay. Has anyone heard of this? It's driving me crazy!
  14. Yeah, I can hear mine pop a lot on cresent kicks. I hasn't gotten worse, some what better. But.... it's still isn't bothering me, just annoying. As long as it doesn't hurt, I don't care . I did about 50 cresent kicks (inner and outter) and about 50 axe kicks last thursday in class. Didn't bother me at all, all night.
  15. I would love to travel over seas and study MA. I don't know why, maybe it's just the movies, but it looks like awesome training
  16. Key point there! In my eyes, being a warrior could also mean mastering your art, and teaching it to someone else. Passing down knowledge and sharing it with others is the key to martial arts (My opinion). Why do you want to be famous anyways? Do you really think it's what it's cracked up to be? Money and fame are just objects. As long as you let it control you, you are no better than anyone else. Both can be removed in a matter of seconds. Learn > Master> Teach = Great martial arts warrior!
  17. Keep in mind to the cost of living in the area that you train in has a big factor on what your dojo might charge. From what I have seen, almost all dojo's that are decent in my area (Baltimore, MD) Charge over $80 for starters.
  18. I have been training my ABS now for 4 months straight. Monday's Wednesday, Fridays, and weighted crunches on Sundays. It has helped me burn off a lot of stomach fat, as well as build up my six pack. I can see it coming through now, just need to cook off some more fat. I think doing 200 a day might be over training the muscle. It's a muscle just like the rest and it needs rest, just like the rest
  19. I say yes. I myself go to church every Sunday (Putting myself out there, but I'm not embarrassed), but MA has taught me a lot so far.... Now, I personally think there can be as many McChurches out there as there are McDojo's. The important thing that I remember, is not to force religion on anyone that doesn't want to hear about it. The same way I do with martial arts. I don't brag that I take MA, just as I don't brag that I believe in God. If someone asks, I give my input... however, these day, religion is like politics. Everyone has there views, take it for what it's worth.
  20. Anyone seen this? It looked interesting, but I have bought a lot of MA movies before based on looks. Your opinion?
  21. I think they're called that. Basically, you're on your back, you pump your legs all the way up over your hear, then push off with your hands as your feet..... I don't know how to explain it How do you do this?
  22. I'm in a school that teaches Kali stick fighting as weapons. Now, I would love to learn the Bo. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I love this dojo, the price is great, and they train you hard. I just want to really learn how to properly use the Bo, and some flashy stuff
  23. My kneez are fine, probably from playing catcher for 8 years in baseball, but my hip is popping, I"m sure that'll go away with some more stretching and muscle build up
  24. Woopsss... can't believe I forgot ABS and Back too
