No, I see what your saying. I'm going to talk to him on Wednesday. Tonight, I'm going in to try and see what this other school can offer me. I have only been in it for almost 3 weeks, so switching isn't really going to bother me. -

I mean, if I wasn't in a finacial situation right now, it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm sure they will offer me a couple months free, but I don't know when I'll be able to pay these fees. Plus, I'm getting married in 3 weeks, and my soon to be wife has mono, and still will for a couple of months. She needs me around the house. Not to mention, If I found some place closer, I could go to the class, train, and come back in less than 90 minutes. Now, it takes me almost 2-3 hours, depending on how long I stay for. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great school, but my needs are different right now. 3 weeks ago when I signed up, this wasn't a problem. But... since I got shot down on my promotion, money is going to be TIGHT! -

Well, I can attend any day of the week, They will be training me on 8 different weapon styles, but the BO (which is what I want to learn) is only offered 1 day a month. They will also teach me kinda like a tactical defence. How to disarm a handgun, shotgun, and knife. Some other little things, but that's it. -
Congrats on your studies. You'll get use to the gi. Roll the sleves up near your elbows. This will help some. I even roll the pants legs up some. After a few washes, they'll start to shrink. MA is self paced. You get what you put into it. I attend 3-4 times a week. Probably more now, since I'm switching dojo's and it's right near my house. Also, I train about 90 minutes at home on my off days from class. When I train at home, I stretch, work on Kata's, balance, and strengthening my legs. When I'm not in class, I lift weights for my upper body, and hit my ABS hard! Like I said, you get what you put into it. This has always been a life goal for me to learn, and master a martial art. You need to decided what it is for you, then create your schedule! Oh.... don't worry about the kids. You're going to find half this world has a maturity level of a 3 year old. Good luck!

What is the name of the dojo you study at? This sounds very farmiliar to where I am.

I think this is another reason why I'm looking into a different school. Only after 2 weeks, I feel like they're just giving the belts out. Granted, it has only been two weeks, but I already got promoted to advance white.

No, I agree. However, this has become and issue of money as well. I cannot afford the classes because my wife has mono, and had to stop working for atleast a month. Also, I was turned down on my raise that I was suppose to get 2 months ago. I just found out on Friday that I'm not getting it. This is going to make things very tight, and the money that I'm spending for classes ($200 a month) is going to help out a lot. I'm going to attend a class on Tuesday. I'm hoping it will be cheaper, and still give me what the other has (value, tradition, friendship) plus a little more. I will let you all know how it goes. Hopefully it will be more affordable. This all happened on Friday, and I signed up for the advanced classes on Wednesday. I hope my instructor understands. -

Thank you. I don't want to "get" my next belt, and this is something that is concerning me about the current class that I'm at. I know that I have only been in it for 3 weeks, but I don't feel like I'm challenged enough. Not to mention, since the price of gas went up, I can't really afford to be traveling 40 miles 4 days a week to this class. I noticed that some of the people in my school aren't even in shape, and they're about to test for black belt. I mean, they have big guts! I like the school, and I think it's fine for someone who just wants to learn TKD, but I want to learn TKD, be an excellent martial artist, and be ripped. I didn't want to compete before, I do now. I know this is a lot for me to be thinking of so early, but this is a life goal that I have wanted since I was 8 or so. I cannot put into words how bad I want this. I'm going to try another school this week. There is one 4 minutes from my house, and I have heard that he's the real deal, trains very hard, and it doesn't look like a lot of show. We shall see. I'm not going to quite my other school yet, I'll give it some more time, but I am learn (do to current money situations and the fact that is becoming far away with gas) I might try this other school out. Either way, I'll keep you posted! Thanks again to everyone. This is going to be an incredible journey, and your support is very much appriciated! -

Yeah, really! No wonder so many people don't want to go on diets. It's so freaking expensive..... well, atleast that is what they say -

Yeah, it is a lot. It's starting to get to me, but I push through it. The hardest thing is the food. Having to cook it up in one big day, so I have it all through the week. I'll tell you this much, staying on a clean, healty diet is more expensive then eating at subway and quizzno's all the time. I buy in bulk, so I get a lot at once, but man... my grocery bill per month is more expensive than my car payment! -
Nobody? Come on... all MA's... I want to see some people! Don't be shy. I'm about to deplete my checking account and go buy another camera.

Thanks man! Well, I train and workout everyday, but Sunday (much needed day of rest). I'm in class 3 days a week, sometimes 4, and weight training 3 days a week. Plus, I'm on a strict 2000 calorie a day diet, no junk food, no drinking, taking supplements, plus Omega Thunder (Crea-ethyl) <-- Good stuff. I have been taking it for a month, and it's done wonders! I will keep pushing myself, and hopefully get them ABS to come out. So far, I have lost 62lbs. I went from fat slobe, to damn ( as my friends tell me) but I still have about 25 more lbs to loose, and I want to get under 13% BF. I'm not going to stop until I get there. -
Water. I drink about 1.5 gallons a day!

I have been searching these forums, but I don't see any threads that detail how great of shape someone got in, and how they're ripped. If they're out there, please post them here. I'm trying to get into the best shape of my life. I would post my own pics, but my camera is broken, and can't afford a new one for a couple of weeks, after my wedding. I'm taking TKD, is there anyone here that is taking that, that feels they got into great shape because of it? Let see some pics, if you're not scared to, that is

You sound like someone to look up to Menjo. I like your attitude towards this. Could you explain to me the main difference between MMA and TMA? I know MMA is mix MA's, but what about TMA? I'm doing TKD, but I'm not sure if it's going to get me into the shape that I'm looking for. I want the lean/ripped look. Granted, it's only been 2 weeks, but I just don't want to be the average person taking MA. -

I got my advanced white (autographed too by Jhoon Rhee). I was very happy. Not hard at all, didn't break a sweat. I was told this one is the easiest, after this... you had better be ready. Grand Master Rhee and my other masters where very hard on the some of the brown belts who didn't have proper balance tonight while qualifiying for their black belt test. I was happy to see that this is for the reason that this is not a school that just hands out belts. I saw some pretty cool stuff. Grand Master Jhoon Rhee is an incredible person! I saw two 3rd Dan BB (husband and wife) test for 4th Dan and Master level. They created their own form for this and it was awesome to watch. They were awarded master, and are testing for their 4th Dan in October. All in all it was an awesome night! -
That's good. I wouldn't want my son being a black belt at the age of 8. It's too much for a child. He needs to still learn math, english, and science to worry about being a black belt. Good job on picking him the right school based on what he wants, and what you don't want him to have (a purchase black belt!)

Tonight is graduation for the Black Belts in my class. Grand Master Jhoon Rhee will be there. I'm testing for advance white tonight (I know, not that big of a deal, but it's cool for me) I have only been taking TKD for 2 weeks, but I have experiance in Shotokan karate, and I practice every day, as well as stay late after my class to gain more experiance. My master says that I'm ready for the test, but not to get use to moving this fast through belts. He said it's going to get very hard. I asked them to not take it easy on me, and that I don't want anything that I have not earned. He really appreciated this. He said "it's good to see a student that wants to learn martial arts, not buy a belt" I'm very happy to see that I found a "non-McDojo" school. Just thought I would share
