  1. I agree! I always tell people that the best technique when facing someone with a knife is to run!!
  2. Rank is important in one aspect. If you want to someday have your own school, it is important to have rank because as unfortunate as it is, the general public wnat to train with someone with a high rank.
  3. I have been invited to try a class of JKD and I am always interested in learning something new. A friend of mine told me that this class is basically teaching kickboxing and BJJ which I already train in so I am not really interested in it. I want to know from the JKD practitioners out there if kickboxing and BJJ is the focus of their school?
  4. Cathal. have you disarmed a person in a real fight?
  5. Kajukenbo is often nicknamed in the media, "the art of dirty street fighting". It was designed for the street and (sorry) it was tested on the street. The founder of the system said that he was not satisfied with the training untill he saw blood on the floor. Kajukenbo is not practiced in the old bloody ways but the techniques remain. As much as I love the art of Kajukenbo, I must say that I wouldn't want to jump in the ring with a good MT fighter. Long ago, fighters from different countries went to Thailand to fight in the ring with them and the MT fighters defeated all comers. Like all good arts, when you have something good, others will study what you do and copy them so the Thailand fighters are not as dominant as they once were. MT fighters are tough and they have my respect.
  6. Hi adino! and welcome!
  7. Hi Brucelee-Dragon! and welcome!
  8. I've been banged around and twisted up by my Senseis but never to the point of injury!
  9. Mashed potato is good too!!
  10. This person was coming after my friend and I stepped in front and he stabbed me in my side, I was able to hit him after he stabbed me and what happened next I have to omit because the police were investigating what I did to him since he ended up in worse shape than me.
  11. I eat white rice. brown rice, and fried rice and they all taste good!
  12. I don't currently have a bike but I always dream of getting one. I do have a motorcycle license and have owned bikes in the past. Most of my friends ride Harleys. I love the looks, sound and prestige of a Harley but I also love the adrenaline rush of a rice cooker. What do you prefer or have?
  13. Hey Draven Chen Zhen! Thanks for the info! This is all new ideas to me! I'll try it!!
  14. I always teach my students that if a person has a knife, run! The reason that knife defense is taught is in case your opponent has blocked your exit and you have no choice but to fight. I also tell them to expect to be cut because if you don't and he does cut you, you'll go into a mental shock and be unable to try anything. By the way, I was attacked with a knife and I did require stitches!!!!...... he ended up in the hospital too!
  15. I believe that flexibility has a lot to do with genes. The only time that I was really flexible was when I was young and doing Taekwondo and we did forced stretching like someone sitting on your back as you stretched. I lost flexiblility quite fast when I discontinued doing forced stretching even though I continued to stretch in a normal fashion. On the other hand, I have seen people who hardly stretch at all and are extremely flexible. I even tried a stretching machine. I used it everyday for long periods of time. Yes, I did gain flexibility but not to the point that I wanted. I can still kick people in the head but axe kicks....forget it!
  16. I use to train in a class that was 4 hours long and this was too much as I could see that everyone was looking at the clock because they wanted class to end.
  17. Most of the Japanese jujitsu that was taught to me was on my feet. Most of the BJJ that was taught to me was on the ground. Just my personal experience and not necessarily what is taught in other schools.
