  1. Hi ElSteve I'm also new to this forum and I have a lot of fun here! Ed Parker was once a student of Adriano Emperado (Kajukenbo) and Emperado is in my school lineage so I'm happy that you have an interest in his style.
  2. What I meant was achieving rank solely through the mail such as advertised in magazines. My opinion has always been low on such promotions, however I cannot criticize without trying it, therefore I wanted to hear from people who actually answered one of these ads and what was their experience like. Your keeping touch with your instructor via videos is different and I respect your traing this way.
  3. No matter which shampoo I use (whether to thicken hair or not), my hair just keeps getting thinner and thinner and thinner and thinner...........etc.
  4. In "getting started", "Kenpomike" asked what people thought of video promotions. I told him that I did not think much of such promotions but then I thought that this was unfair because I never tried it to see what it was like. My question is: Is there anyone out there who has experienced going through the requirements and testing and what was it like?

  11. Instructional videos can be a great asset to your training, however nothing is better than a live instructor because he can watch you and make corrections as he sees the need for it. If you are unable to attend any classes, training with a video is certainly better than not training. Promotions by video, in my opinion, is not highly regarded, however if this is your only means, then do it.....I have never taken any tests by video nor do I know anyone that has. If anyone out there has taken these video tests, I would like to hear from them and their experience with them.

  13. Reason for Knuckle conditioning? When I initially began knuckle conditioning, I thought that it was so I could endure the impact of hitting something solid and it does, however after years of doing it, I realized that my knuckles were protruding and solid and therefore became better weapons like wearing a set of brass knuckles. How to train? Slowly. I agree that that if your skin breaks open, stop and let it heal. Herbs such as "dit da jow" can help but do not apply to open wounds. I tried all types of methods but my favorite is to simply find a rock and keep punching it and grinding your knuckles into it. (you may have to work up to this by doing knuckle pushups. Downfall? Alright, I admit, I've developed some arthritis in my hands and the ligiments in my hands are torn (doctor says this is from hitting bag without wrapping) but I still break bricks even with these conditions and drinking aloe vera helps the stiffness in my hands.
  14. Only in the dojo does a person throw one blow and stop or hesitate before throwing another. In a real street fight, the attacker will normally throw a fast combination of strikes, therefore it is better (if you are unable to avoid a confrontation) to hit him first. It is better to hurt him than to have him hurt you.
  15. I used to pay $45 amonth plus $5.00 a class for BJJ. I attended 3 classes a week. $45.00 + $60.00 = $105.00 a month
  16. I think that the best solution is to tell your instructor about your problem and see if he'll be more understanding and allow you to have a neatly trimmed beard. I never heard of a school that forced their students to shave, only to be neat.

  18. BB15, Please tell us more about yourself... You said that you combined different styles...What styles have you combined and what is your experience in these styles???? How did you get your current students? How old are you?
  19. The worst exercise that I remember is when we were made to crawl around on our knuckles on an asphalt parking lot. We had to pull gravel out of our knuckles when we were done.
  20. My former instructor (Taekwondo) was collecting dues all the way up to when he dissappeared. The word was that he was running from the IRS. I found a better school anyway and so will you!
  21. After being mobbed, sucker punched twice, and robbed, I wanted to learn to fight so I took up Taekwondo in the early seventies. I am currently and will continue to be a Kajukenbo stylist. I love Kajukenbo (Karate, Judo, Jujitdu, Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing) because the practitioners are open to all styles and it is street oriented. Pineapple
  22. Gheinisch, I just love your quote from Sensei Funakoshi. Pineapple
  23. How much is a class worth? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The only way to know what a class is worth is to watch the class yourself and ask what is it worth to you. Do not make a decision based upon price alone. Every school is different, even schools of the same art. their emphasis are different, the instructors are different, their methods are different. I would gladly pay $100.00 a month for lessons that I enjoyed and looked forward to rather than pay $25.00 a month for a class that I felt was mediocre.
  24. I have witnessed both Bill Wallace and Joe Lewis in their bouts and they certainly are world class fighters but the best kickboxer that I have personally witnessed in action is Benny the Jet Urquidez!!!
  25. Hello Martial Artists! I am soon to be 50 years old and have been involved in the martial arts since the early seventies. I hold black belts in Kajukenbo and Wado Ryu. Also have brown belts in Shotokan and Kempo. Also blue belts in Brazilian Jujitsu and Taekwondo. I have also trained in kickboxing. Glad to be part of your forum.
