I've taught several people who were diagnosed as having learning disorders.........Some gave 110% effort and I praised them for it and worked closely with them, however some did not want to kiai or threw kicks and punches lazily without any effort. I'm not a doctor so I'm curious to know. Does having a learning disorder effect effort? or are do they just lack the proper attitude?

Sticking your pinky out IS THE PROPER WAY to do a break!...................... ...the proper way to break your pinky that is. Sorry but I can think of no other reason.

Sorry, but I'm going to repeat what I said earlier because my feelings are so strong about this. Anyone who has not gone into a ring and have someone try to knock their head off should not criticize any boxer or kickboxer. It is much easier from the bleachers. I have heard so many people talk about this person and that person not being a good kickboxer and many of these people never trained in kickboxing. They have on idea how hard it is to even be recognized as a caliber kickboxer. For Bill Wallace to be an undefeated champion kickboxer, he had to be good and if the critics jumped in the ring with him during his prime, he would probably knock them out. I am older than most people out there so be aware that I did see Bill Wallace fight in his prime and he was FAST and ACCURATE! I ONLY respect negative comments from CHAMPION CALIBER KICKBOXERS because they are the ones who really earned the right to criticize other champion kickboxers.

BJJ has hundreds of techniques and combinations but I want to concentrate on the ones that are most effective for the street. OK, all of you BJJ practitioners out there. I have a question for you. If you had to limit yourself to just 5 techniques or combos to practice for the street, which ones would they be?

Generally speaking, Chinese arts use more circular moves, while karate uses more linear moves. Many Chinese arts use the concept of circular moves based on the theory that circular moves are continuous, therefore creating quick combinations. Karate uses the concept of the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, therefore making their strike faster.

I charge $100.00 for three months of training.......It is a small class and the dues barely covers my expenses, however, the sentimental rewards are great!

KAJUKENBO Nickname for Kajukenbo is the "art of dirty street fighting" Practice consists of eyestrikes, throat strikes, groin shots, elbow breaks, knee breaks............Multiple strikes, throw to ground, and finish opponent. It was an art that was formed by five masters of five different styles and was often put to the test in the rough neighborhood of Kalihi in Hawaii.

The key to everything is RESPECT! Even if you violated one of their rules of formalities, as long as it was not done intentionally or disrepectfully, they will correct you in a polite manner.........on the other hand, if you intentionally disregard formalities, well.......................................................................................... Previous replies gave you the best answer to your question...ASK!

If a student was a bit arrogant, would this be a legitimate reason for not teaching certain techniques? If this student was taught advanced techniques, he might become more arrogant..........If techniques were withheld from him, he might take you as a poor instructor who doesn't know enough. Your thoughts, please!

Edgard asked: I'm not too familiar with the instructors in Brazil but I also had a few lessons with a Brazilian named Joao. He taught on a military base here and was one of Gracie's black belts. When we do basics in Kajukenbo, it is mostly karate but when we train in self defense techniques, we train in all of the arts equally.

I receive gifts from my students and give gifts to my instructor. It's all part of the beauty of the closeness one gets when everyone strives to achieve a common goal. When a student strives to achieve a black belt, the instructor's goal is also the same which is to make that person a black belt and this common goal develops a bond which is often expressed in gifts. To me, receiving and giving gifts have a great sentimental value.

Some instructors keep some knowledge to themselves and do not teach everything that they know. Is this an acceptable practice?
