Age is something that you cannot fight. Next month I'll be 50 and I still think about competing (full contact) at times but when I spar with the younger people, I realize that my mind is saying yes but my body is saying no. I train all the time but I'm just getting slower with age. The only thing that you can do as you grow older is to increase your knowledge as age does not affect this and to pass on your knowledge so the younger people can compete if they desire to. I feel for Holyfield because I can understand his desire to continue fighting but sometimes you have to face reality.

If a lower belt in my instructor's school tells me that I'm doing a technique wrong, I tell him Okay, since you know better than me, I'm not going to teach you anymore and I walk away. If someone from another school tells me that he knows a technique better than me, I tell him to teach me his way. If he really knows something, then I'll learn from him. The funny thing is that more than half of these people tell me that they cannot teach me anything that I don't already know.

The police come and make their reports and normally they just file the reports untill it exceeds the statute of limitations. Assault charges normally don't end up incourt unless there are many witnesses testifying against you or there are injuries on the inmate's body which indicate that excessive force was used. The inmates that charged me with assault never had any visual injuries. Choking people and twisting limbs normally don't leave marks.

I've got a question for everyone out there......How do you deal with a student who criticizes your technique?

I have something ironic to add to this post. This is the same instructor who told me that there is no such thing as a bad student, only bad instructors.

This question has been asked before but I'll answer it again. I originally took up martial arts to learn how to fight. After years of training, I learned that the discipline that I gained helped me in everything that I did in life. Now I want to help others to experience what I experienced in the martial arts so that they too can face difficulties in their life. Also the friends that I've gained in the martial arts world are the best friends that I ever had and that is why I'll always be involved in the martial arts.

The worst street fight that I witnessed was two neighborhoods fighting each other. There were unconscous people all over the place. One person in particular that I remember was one that was unconcious and the other person continued stomping on his head. He was taken away in an ambulance, still unconscious. The best street fight that I was in was when a complete stranger who was mad at someone else, pushed me. I hit him one time and he went to sleep.

I once owned a white German Shepard that developed severe hip problems at 10 years old......I was advised by my vet to put him to sleep due to the severity and his age.
