I would never try any of those. What does that have to do with being a youth black belt?

What do you think a Black Belt should signify to others?
ShotokanKid replied to Manabimasho1's topic in General Chat
Black Belt is the beginning. I don't think I know anyone who isn't afraid of being kidnapped. Plus, there is no effective defense against a speeding bullet, a common muggers weapon, except for a bullet proof vest and a shield, but nobody actually carries those around except SWAT. I don't care if you laugh at me. -
You've never heard of Shihan Hirokazu Kanazawa? http://www.fightingmaster.com/legends/kanazawa/ I'm Japanese, I know that Kanazawa is ALSO a city, on Honshu; my uncle, aunt, and cousin are going there this summer.

Wow, you have a problem with young martial artists. What's wrong with a young MA dedicating themselves and earning a rank. I agree that 11 is pretty young for a black belt, but a black belt is just a strip of cloth. You can buy one from a MA distributer. A black belt is more of a mental mindset than it is a piece of black cloth. You can achieve this mindset early on. In your other post about young martial artists in "So, how old is everyone here" you say that young black belts have more of a chance of getting themselves killed or hurt by a false sense of pride and in this one, you're talking about an "average joe on the street" and "beat any lower ranking belt in a sparring contest" and "seriously hurt an unarmed bigger oppenant" A black belt should understand that the untimate aim of martial arts in to not have to use them. Rather than try to defend yourself against a robber who wants your money, just give him your money. A black belt should be peaceful and learn to solve things without force (like the example above) If a black belt isn't peaceful, (s)he doesn't deserve it. As IsshinRyu5toforever's signature says, the ultimate aim of a warrior is to lay down his weapons. -
My sensei is almost 60, and has trained under people such as Kanazawa. What a pity that has been your experience with youth black belts! I trained since I was 8, and had 4 years of perfect attendance. That's coming to class every session. I currently come to my dojo for 9 hours of class (not counting extra practice; just class hours) a week. I never get into fights, and I avoid telling people of my martial arts experience, unless asked. My dojo has had only 2 junior black belts (under 16) since it's start in 1981, myself being the only current one. Our other junior black belt had 3 years perfect attendance.

Skeet shooting? Hunting? Okay, I don't know of any martial art based around using a firearm.

I wouldn't worry about it, it was just a dream. Starting over isn't a bad thing though.
-
What do you need help with? I don't quite get it. Are you taking the dream as what will happen in the future?

Hello, and welcome to KF

I don't think you need to worry about this. I sincerely believe the kittens of the world are safe.

http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/hoaxes/bonsai.html "protesting against a website where it is suggested cats are being maltreated. In fact, the website is a joke (albeit one which some may find tasteless)." The link you put on this post is the website described above. even more from http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/pranks/bonsai.html "But that was not the end of BonsaiKitten.com. What started was a game of 'cat and mouse,' as the site simply began relocating from one server to another. Whenever furious animal lovers discovered its new location, they would bombard its host with criticism until the weary host, buckling under the weight of the attacks, would force BonsaiKitten.com to move on and find a new home. This continued until the site finally found a permanent home on Rotten.com. During this time the site's creators at MIT began giving interviews to the press through the fictitious persona of "Dr. Michael Wong Chang." They explained that the site was a prank designed to satirize "the human belief of nature as a commodity." But this did little to calm the animal lovers whose anger continued to grow and grow. In February 2001 even the FBI got involved and subpoenaed all information about the site from MIT. But its investigation came up empty when it found no evidence of animal abuse or of the sale of Bonsai Kittens." Also, check out http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/bonsai.asp It says: Claim: A web site provides information and equipment for making 'bonsai kittens.' Status: False. And from http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blbonsai.htm Comments: First things first: The Bonsai Kitten site is a hoax — a sick joke. No one is really doing those awful things to kittens (see "Bonsai Kitten" for the history of this prank). I must not have enough to do if I'm researching all this, lol

I heard that this is just a joke, and the pictures are hard to tell if the kitten is really being shaped. I will say that I don't know anything about it, but some newspaper column says it's just a joke.

It depends on who it is that is telling the story... I will not say anything about strengths, but I know one thing for certain, Shotokan doesn't grapple, so that would be a weakness (I'm sure some schools do a little bit, but an experienced judo ka could probably easily beat a Shotokan person when the match goes to the floor)

Have you heard of this kata? It starts off the same way as Jion, but goes to manji uke. I read that Shorin Ryu has this kata, with four mrve techniques than Shotokan (at the end of the kata). Does anyone know Jiin? I've never even heard of this kata before last night.

Are they dan marks, time trained, length away from next test, number of tournaments participated in, number of tournaments won? Okay, just a joke. We only have our names and school name written on our black belts (in Kanji and katakana). We don't put ranks on our black belts at all, in fact, I think my sensei still wears his (very beat up) shodan belt. I'm assuming they are for ranks, but I've never seen belts that have rank marked on them or on both sides of the belt.

My dad doesn't mind the hills, he walks up them... Oh, did I mention he used to bike home from work in Japan with my sister (who was a baby-this was a pretty long time ago) in the basket in the back? He also got hit once. His bike came with a required reading book about safety. The bike sales guy was telling us about all the people he scared when he biked... He would bang on the back of their cars if they cut him off to scare them.

We are supposed to pull our punches about half an inch away, but almost all the time, we just strike about half power
