  1. Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I appreciate your advice.
  2. For me, it depends on who I'm sparring. Since I work with young karate people (7-11 or so) I work from a cat stance. Good for jamming their kicks, and good for nailing them with a front leg shot. If I'm sparring an adult or a teen who knows what they're doing (I wouldn't do this for a purple belt teen) I work from the regular kamae stance and occasionally fire of a front leg kick.
  3. Yes, carry a "muggers wallet" Good point, CagedWorrior.
  4. I will be attending a tournament in September. I attend all the classes offered to me, but I want to train more to better prepare myself for this. What do you suggest I do at home? I plan on practicing my kata in the living room. What else do you suggest I do? I wont have a partner at home to practice kumite with. Also, should I do stamina drills?

  15. A woman in Japan wanted to be a musician. She practiced for hours and went to music school. Right before she graduated she decided she wasn't good enough to become pro. She decided to take up shooting. After 3 years she went to the Olymipics and won (not sure what place) It's not important when you start. As Jax_Evolution said, you're not getting any younger. So do the best you can now.
  16. I learned some of the Iaido kata from a book. A shihan from Japan taught me a little bit of Iaido, so I borrowed a book from my friend to learn the kata. What exactly do you want the kata to look like? How long do you want it to be? What type of strikes do you want to do? How much space do you want to use?
  17. I don't feel comfortable telling my parents just because my dad completely freaks out about stuff like this, he gets really, really mad, and I don't want it to come down to this yet. My youth pastor has already talked about this to him a bunch of times, but as you can see, no change
