I want to take kung fu in addition to what I'm already taking. I currently do 5 hours of karate a week, and kung fu would add another 3. Here's the problem... If mom and dad say no, it's a definite NO If just mom says no, I still might be able to So far, mom has said no. She says I'll be to busy with high school next year, and that I should do something useful with that time. How do you think I should lay out my sales pitch? P.S. I'm using karate for my PE credits next year, so I'm not worried about not being able to do karate. I just want to take kung fu. I still have about 2 months of vacation left too.

I have that on my black belt diploma. I don't know why... maybe they just look martial artsy

Girls always kick boys rear ends in sparring. They usually separate boys and girls at tournaments, but at every tournament I've been to that they didn't do that, the only boy-girl matches I saw, the girls won.

I'm weird because I'd rather have a hard cup. For me, it's a lot more comfortable and able to take a blow. I just found the perfect fitting cup today... A BIKE hard cup.

Depends on what you mean by important. If you are doing karate for the love of doing it, kata. If you are doing it for combative/ self-defense reasons, kumite is. Kata is also important for self defense but you have to be able to understand the bunkai.

I like it, but I don't like how loud it is, and I don't like it when people make a lot of noise.

In karate, Kumite matches are controlled, stopped every time a point is scored, and stopped if an opponent gives up. At school, kids shove each other, and if a real fight happens, it is not controlled (duh) and often, multiple people gang up on one person. I am too worried about getting suspended to get in a fight, but how are you supposed to defend against pushing? I often used perry blocks but many times, there are multiple people pushing me in the middle. I don't hang out with these bullies, but sometimes, they follow me. What's your suggestions to defend against this?

I am thinking of taking TKD this summer. There are so many studios, I am not sure which to choose. Please give me tips on choosing one.

Are the bricks real or soft or what?

Is breaking bricks real or just some legend? Do some dojo really break bricks?

Has anybody who has taken or seen a shotokan nidan test tell me about it? I have to test in about a year and I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do. Or is it like a state test: you can't study for it?
