And if they're newbies that are mostly illiterate rude dumbasses, its good for them not to get into arguments, because the intelligent literate people tend to badly own them, get them into a big rage and force them to leave... or be banned. hehe

new - what should I take
Jack replied to tundra's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Brazilian Jiu Jutsu is a very physical, close up grappling art - I think tundra is after more of something that is a bit more less physical. I'm not sure, though Ouss. -
So, how many have used our Promote at your School feature?
Jack replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
Funny you mentioned it Patrick, just last night I was thinking "I'll print out that Karateforums poster and stick it on the bulliten board in my dojang" Most definitely, I would like to get some people from my club onto this board -
No problem Dragon Warrior, just glad I could help

Thanks Deby, but just so you know I only started this programme the other day... don't worry I will be adding more kicks and kick combinations, in three months I'll be putting together Slipstep side kicks, side kicks, roundhouses, front kicks, along with various hand techniques in combinations. I'm just starting easy and building up however, one thing "...work on dynamic stretching with those kicks and then end with tension kicks" how excactly do you mean? Start with doing the kicks relaxed, going for height, and then start doing them more quickly? Thanks for all of the compliments Jack

Art of your choice or the one available?
Jack replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hehe, good question Sai Well, 10 months ago as I was started I was a bit clueless to the arts. I made the mistake of just going into one school and signing up - although the school is great so I consider myself lucky! Basically, I did not check out all of the available arts and schools in the area which is what I suppose I should have done. I do Taekwondo, and yes if a Mauy Thai school came to town I would probably want to start training in that either instead or additionally... but, as I said before, I'm happy where I am -
Just about all serious martial artists include 3 or 4 main different things in their training, these are... Resistance Training Cardiovascular Training Pylometric Training Skill Training I have not personally started in Pylometric training yet, I need to find out some more stuff myself before I safely start it, but basically over the week you should include 3 weightlifting sessions a week, daily runs or jogs, and practice skill as often as you can Everyone trains differently though - some people on this board spend as much as 4 to 6 hours a day practicing and training, I spend about 1 or 2 hours and still get good improvements in strength, endurance, and skill. I suppose you want an example of a routine. Now I know I seem to paste my routine an awful lot on these boards lately and I'm sorry everybody! but its only to help others ok? What I do in a DAILY routine (Well, ok, I only practice the Skill part Monday and Wednesdays) is the following: Warmup (5 min on bike, stretching) Forms (Run through each twice, once slowly for precision and then quickly) Then I have drawn myself up a big system of moves and combo's to practice, over the course of 3 months I add new, more complicated combinations (hand and hand, foot and foot, hand and foot). I've only just started this up myself so I'm just doing the basic 4 boxing punches and front kick at the moment, but every week I add a new set of combinations which slowly get more taxing. Anyway. then I do some of the above And then 20 minutes on the Exercise Bike - 30 seconds fast as possible, a minute slow, a minute medium-fast. That covers the Cardiovascular and Skill parts of training. on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday I do weights and stomach exercises, and 30 minutes on the bike. Thats thats the Resistance and Cardiovascular training. I hope this has been helpful to you, I'm sure the other guys will come up with something more helpful than what I've put, but I wish you the best of luck!

I don't really run due to my growing pains in my knees, and the cold weather outside this time of year but I have been lucky enough to get an old exercise bike at home, and its really helped. What I do (newly revised thanks to Aiki and Bruce Lee, hehe): Monday - 30 Minutes - 3 minute normal, 2 minute fast, repeat Tuesday - 20 Minutes - 1 minute slow, 1 minute medium-fast, 30 seconds really fast. Repeat. Wednesday is the same as Monday, and Thursday is the same as Tuesday. I don't go on the bike on Friday, but I manage 20 minutes on a Saturday morning before breakfast. I weight train on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and practice my forms and shadow boxing on Monday and Wednesday. I use Sunday for stretching, relaxation, and meditation g... if you want to improve your ability to go for longer, increase the speed. If you want to increase your ability at doing intense things (intense sparring etc.) go to up the pace. Personally, I'd recommend trying both, both seperately and together, see what works for you. Also take note of what else has been said in this thread - all of these people are wells of knowledge Peace, Jack

*sigh* Canadian winter has murdered my routine..help!!!!
Jack replied to Zaknafein's topic in Health and Fitness
Definitely NOT! You could quite easily tear muscles or ligaments running in that temperature - you need to be warm to exercise, otherwise theres an increased risk of injury. So if its that cold, you'll almost definitely damage something. Any gyms open near you? If so, you could use a Treadmill, rowing machine, or exercise bike. If not, you can do burpees, running squats and shadow boxing in your own home for good cardiovascular exercise. -
My Instructor is one 3rd dan Chris Helmstock. He is a great person, he has a sence of humour and provides great training and a good time at all of his lessons. I have only the utmost respect for him and his teachings

I'm not so sure over the existance of Chi to the degree of raising your hands temperate, unlockable elbow etc. but I do believe in self-discipline... having the mental strength to continue doing a few more reps on those weights even when you think you can't, or to carry on running for another minute when you feel that you can't... getting that discipline is good

I go on the exercise bike 20-30 minutes every day except Sunday, do weights and stomach exercises on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday, and practice on Monday and Wednesday, with a Tae Kwon Do lesson on Friday evening. peace

Wow Deby, thanks! Is there anything you don't know? lol, great stuff
-
Well, my Kaia's sound like "kee-ah" however a lot of people shout "day" or "ouss"
-
lol, the rivalry you too have; is it just joking about or is there something serious there?

Well, I do have a few problems I would like to share here For one - I am too used to kicking air. When it comes to kicking a bag with front kick, my foot seems to pull back, loosing the normal foot extended toes back shape to an everything pulled back shape. I suppose a lot of practice on a bag when I get one will help. My other problem is that when doing repeated roundhouse kicks with my right foot, I seem to get a really painful feeling on the inside of the bottom of my foot, like some sort of powerful ache. Any ideas why this may be? Deby I'm sorry to hear you hyper-extended, those injuries are always painful :/ I hope you get well soon, best of luck

If tranlasted to American dollars, I suppose about $30 a month, plus $60 a year for insurance and membership. also, about $25 for a grading (every 3 or 6 months)

Aww Sai, you're really too nice. I'm just passing on info
-
Ahaz, yes, that is what I was hinting at... Bon, thats the testosterone, thats agressiveness and sex drive, but not the growth hormone... See why I'm worried at doing serious weight training at the age of 14 now? lol I'd rather weight till I've finished "developing"
-
The best way of doing cardio exercise is 3 minutes of each, for example jog for 3 minutes then run for 3 minutes, then repeat.
-
Well, my routine is this if you want to have a look Every day I have 5 mins on exercise bike before breakfast to get metabolism running Monday - MA Practice, 30 minutes on bike Tuesday - Weights and abs, 20 mins on bike Wednesday - same as Monday Thursday - same as Tuesday Friday - MA lesson Saturday - Varies Sunday - 10 mins on bike, stretching I do stretching every day, but moreso on Sunday
-
no I was just thinking, you could leave it off until you reach the age of 18, then start weight training because by then you've pretty much reached your peak height. And personally, I would not like to be 5'6" as an adult!
-
lol yes, a little late but anyways Happy Birthday Patrick! Hope you made the most of it
