  1. makes no difference to me- im impressed by results.
  2. 1- to be a better fighter 2- cause its fun! 3- to be in good shape
  3. bridge of the nose- twice. id say throat but its a more difficult target.
  4. dunno bout TJJ but in BJJ its white blue purple brown black, rarely red (not that even purple is all that common)
  5. in a real fight situation you dont want to be on your back. but if you are, guard is the only good place to be. however, quickly as possible you want to submit (on the street break) or sweep your opponent. and i mean as quickly as possible.
  6. the better your opponent is, the less space, or imperfection, he needs to get away from what youre trying to do to him. now that more and more people know grappling, they know what to train for.
  7. yea that one two roundhouse to leg is killer, and so easy to do. really, any combo that makes sense is a good one to practice- throw what might come up a lot. obviously a push kick and an upper cut is pretty dumb, but a push kick followed by a step-jab isnt.
  8. theyre a lot harder to do standing up in real life than many would have you believe. on the ground, oh yea, break those bones.
  9. my comment needing explanation: well, based on the other post "Kenpo Vs. Boxing" i probably exagerated a bit- but i still like boxing's methods of striking and training better. anyway, i said that because i saw kenpo as a bad striking style (upon more research, that isnt always true- just among the people ive met that do it), and to make the point that knowing bjj is very good for street fighting, multiple opponents or not.
  10. bah, your chest is your chest protector
  11. you describe kempo and it sounds a lot like boxing.
  12. ottman- where do you train that has yellow belts? bjj is supposed to go white-blue-purple-brown-black-red (usually dont make it to red, or black for that matter)
  13. well to be fair, i dont train for the ring so much as the cage- not that i cage fight, but thats more like the street, which is my biggest concern. i actually train with some muay thai guys, which i consider to be almost exactly like boxing when only dealing with the hands. actually- let me ask you something about kenpo since you do it.. when youre in your stance and when blocking punches, just how far do your hands come away from your face? and when you block a punch, how exactly do you do it- deflect to the side, absorb, etc?
  14. http://www.muaythai.se/film/vdo.asp the videos on the left side of the screen.. very cool.
  15. yea thats where your chest gets sore first, always does for everyone i read somewhere once that doing a max (do NOT do it without warming up first) before your workout gives you a better workout because your muscles are more awake, and the lesser weight doesnt feel like as much to them. i dont know, never tried it, but youre describing what the muscle-whatever magazine described perfectly. keep us posted on that. i would advise against doing fast then slow sets on the same exercise
  16. water helps you lose weight if you drinik it when youre hungry so you fill your stomache up with that instead of calories
  17. mma- that is usually muay thai and bjj, or wrestling or sambo..
  18. hey people- specifically kickboxers but whatever... how many of you have ever used a side kick in a real fight (by which i mean ring, cage, street, something like that) effectively? i pretty much stick to front (snap) kicks, push kicks, and roundhouses. lets hear some stories (good or bad) about using them.
  19. no, while yes i do speak with a limited understanding of kempo, i do boxing quite a bit- and the covering i was talking about wasnt with the huge gloves on. you see it in cage fights and other mma fights all the time, when a guy gets in trouble he covers up with his forarms, which is primarily what a boxer blocks with, right? thats how ive been doing it. but between that and the slips and foor movements boxers do, thats what i meant by their defensive skills. kempo guys fighting a boxer, my money says theyd quickly revert from whatever stance they use (at least all the ones ive seen used) and "put their dukes up" so to not get knocked out.
  20. knocked out? hm, i dont remember...
  21. mainly because of the way boxers train defensively compared to kempo guys id give it to them. those inside outside up down whatever blocks just dont work, but the way a boxer covers or absorbs or slips and all that, and how they train to do that, i think would always give it to the boxer.
  22. ...do you mean decrease?
  23. actually, the main reason kempo would be innefective is not because of its grappling but because of how they teach striking.
