just punch a bag with small leather bag gloves, or even those fingerless kind, long enough and youll be fine. pushups on the knuckles are kind of dumb in my opinion, wont do anything for your hand.

What type of nutrition to have right after a work out?
VinnieDaChin replied to Mtal's topic in Health and Fitness
actually, because of its high glutamine content (many protein powders also have alot, check the label) eggs are great to eat right before a workout so its ready in your blood stream when you break down the muscles (glutamine is the first protein to get in there and start repairing the muscles). after a workout, just get a good amount of simple carbohydrates (potatoes, pasta, cereal, etc) and protein. -
one big con ive heard of is that they dont do head shots. if youre not used to throwing and blocking head shots you have a huge gap in your skills. still though, from what ive heard from what i consider to be reliable sources, kyokushkin is one of the better martial arts to train in.

1- that i wasted my time in the beginning at a crappy little kung fu place where i learned nothing 2- that i didnt start the real stuff sooner 3- that i didnt lift weights more when i was younger so to not have to worry about gaining size now

me and the boy

you could try asking him to show you some of his stuff and kind of turn the tables. if you act really interested in his stuff he just might think more of it. worse comes to worse, why not show him a little of your stuff if it makes him happy. maybe incorperate it into what he does. -
id post this same question in the boxing/kickboxing forum anyway, a common mistake of the heavy bag is people literally put everything they have into each punch, which really isnt the way to do it. speed is power, so practice hitting hard but still reasonable. http://www.rossboxing.com/thegym/thegym18.htm http://www.rossboxing.com/thegym/thegym24.htm

Close Quarters Combat and Martial Arts
VinnieDaChin replied to CQC's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
first things first with a gun- just do what they say. with that said, the best thing to do (besides taking an army class) is know how guns work. for example, a semi-auto with its slide pushed back even the slightest bit (i.e. pushing on the barrel) it wont fire. yes, that means when you push it into someones back it wont fire. or you can grab it and put something in the way of the hammer- applicable for any semi auto with a hammer (though the trend is moving away from that) and for any revolver. its a good bet that the holder of the gun wont react in time to pull the trigger, especially if all you have to do is grab the barrel. also, and this is a little police trick for if someone tries to take their gun- beretta pistols wont fire if you eject the clip, even if theres one in the chamber. anyway id advise getting a rubber gun and practicing some moves, not unlike in the movie 'the recruit' (al pacino, colin farrel... man i hate to use a movie as an example, but oh well.) -
1- the form thai fighters have is greater than you realize. a lot of chinese martial arts have this rigid possibly fancy looking stuff, thai fighters just do what works. when they kick youll see them turn over their hip and not extend their leg almost at all, kicking with a dead leg, for instance. believe me good form is of the utmost importance in thai boxing. the body mechanics are simply the most effecient way to hurt someone. also, i bet youd be surprised just how 'imperfect' the movements would be of chinese-martial artists in a real all out fight. 2-thai fighters when in the ring aim to knock the other guy out, plain and simple. if no one gets a knock out in thailand, its a tie, and they dont want that. now, for those of us who do thai boxing for the street, we train to simply beat someone down into a little pulp. and i, personally, truly believe there isnt a better art to train in to do just that.

grapplers mistake
VinnieDaChin replied to Goju 4 Life's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
when you get good enough at grappling youll kind of just know. also, you can train that way- you throw fake strikes while grappling. basically, eventually, it becomes natural. -

Leg cramps during jujitsu...what to do?
VinnieDaChin replied to 1kickKO's topic in Health and Fitness
warm up, stretch, get enough water. -
if youre looking to gain some serious muscle size, lift about once a week. abs are different though, you can do them every day theyre not sore. you can either lift them heavy with weights not unlike your other muscles, or just do as many situps as you like per set, as many sets as you like.

Why I Quit Tae Kwon Do
VinnieDaChin replied to Zorba's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
thats true about the black belts- a black belt is supposed to mean one of two things. 1) you are the truly elite in your art. the gracies still do it that way, and you wont see a lot of black belts even among great fighters. 2) ive heard it used to be that you got a black belt (which was right after your whitebelt, or no belt, or something) when you truly became a student of the art. you had to be really good, then youd get a black belt and only then could you be considered a student of the art. (felt like typing that one out twice.) even that attitude is done now- black belts think that that's it, theyre masters now or something. again, especially in tkd it seems. its about ego now, fragile little egos need reinforcement. combine that with the rigidity and inflexibility of the traditional attitude still lingering around, and you have a recipe for some crappy, non effective, non worthwhile, and essentially useless martial arts. but i digress... -
Advice?
VinnieDaChin replied to Jordan H's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
effective as in can beat anyone who has the first clue what theyre doing, or better yet, against someone with equal training time in say, boxing or something. -
blocking a jab
VinnieDaChin replied to STR33T GUY's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
nah, you can "catch" jabs like you said, pineapple, without gloves on- its not terribly difficult. as for "catch"ing it like a baseball... i wouldnt try that against anyone who knows how to punch at all. as for the second picture- yea, thats kind of what i meant by the forarm/elbow block only i usually dont just stick it right out there. -
okay, if youre actually taking full contact knees in practice with MT your instructors are a little nutty... otherwise just let the conditioning do its work, youll probably be just fine (everyone gets injured sooner or later) and youll be thankful for it in the long run. you dont have to be a cage fighter to train in mixed martial arts, and youll be all the better of a fighter for it. personally, id stick with the MT and BJJ because that covers striking and grappling- and the best strikers/grapplers in the world right now are MT/BJJ guys.
