  1. maybe, maybe not, hard to know. but all the best fighters today crosstrain in muay thai.
  2. this is the problem with the state of a lot of traditional martial arts today, especially tkd it seems. too bad really, but at least youre in a better one now.
  3. i hate that reactionary only stuff. if i feel i need to for whatever reason, im going all out.
  4. yea- cause your balls get too hot cause briefs hold them too close.
  5. the guard, the mount, cross-side (sidemount), then ankle locks and wrist locks. (id assume armbars and chokes are all naturally part of the mount or guard or whatever.)
  6. old boxing saying... speed is power.
  7. im sure theres some kung fu out there somewhere that might work. but ive never come across a kung fu that id call effective.
  8. yes. the conditioning, training methods, and simply what it teaches you. no nonsenbse fighting, everything thats useful, nothing that isnt. and, its evolved and been proven time and time again.
  9. are makiwara pads like focus pads? if so, its not hard to not hurt your joints when using them. boxers start out with them all the time, they dont have problems. in fact, the most likely place to hyperextend something and hurt your joints is when punching the air.
  10. heavy bag is good. also do body weight exercises for now, i wouldnt even do weights until later.

  12. actually no its better. for just sometimes, something tight is fine, you wont have any problems. but, in general boxers are healthy because your balls (there, i said it) will often times get too warm because they are kept too close to the body. this is why the skin, sack, whatever sometimes shrivels and sometimes loosens up- closer to the body if theyre too cold and further away if theyre quite warm.
  13. do chin ups wide grip ideally. for the trap, thats tough, you need to shrug something heavy. i guess you could try pushing with them from a seated position with your feet out and hands on the ground or something else like two chairs.
  14. if i havent ran in a while, that, cause its friggin hard to get back into. also, dumbell freeweight rows- i mean, i love em, they work great, but damn damn damn can they be exausting. i have an easier time doing heavy heavy legpresses sometimes.
  15. hands in front of the face, boxer style. legs shoulder width or so, 45 angle. (believe me if your hands arent in front of your face youll take more punches than you need to.)
  16. i dont think there is any way to know if bodhidarma existed or not. records werent kept so well back then. as for jesus- roman documents have shown that a man named jesus did exist and did cause some problems in the area the bible says he was. whether or not the legends and stories about either are in any way true, no way to know for sure.
  17. Because youre in the wrong kind of martial arts.
  18. i have a book full of blank pages if you want to buy it from me.
  19. 16oz is as big as they get. id say those.
  20. shadow boxing is practicing boxing movements with air. anyway, people need to realize that pads, heavy bags, and shadow boxing are important. they all should be started as soon as you start training striking. as to the original post- that happens a lot with those traditional martial arts- the teachers and practicioners get so caught up in the tradition that they refuse to do things that just make sense (like use heavy bags.)
  21. total fake setup.
  22. it requires more force to move osmething fast than slow- so for fighting applications id recommend fast. that is, after id recommend weights.
  23. the forest? the dark? wtf?
  24. im not very impressed, though i rarely am with wing chun period.
