The way i failed.....plz re:
VinnieDaChin replied to OkinawaKarate04's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
sh*t happens, learn from it. try laughing at the guy next time, its the opposite of mad, makes them incredibly mad, so in a way you come out a winner. and hey, if you really wanna kick his *ss, maybe you can provoke him into attacking you first. but all in all, this incident will soon be old news, just dont forget (cause then you wont learn.) -
5- never too late too start (unless youre decrepit)

New with a ? about styles
VinnieDaChin replied to Lenny's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
nooo no no. yes, BJJ is one of t he most brutal when applied, but in class its, i think, one of the safest martial arts to learn. in fact, you get to roll (the grappling version of sparring) every day because youre not taking hits and beating yourself down. and hey- theres nothing wrong with that beat their face in and break their arm mentality if youre being attacked. thats what gets you out alive. -
Very confused!
VinnieDaChin replied to MFGQ's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
cross train bjj, if you want different striking, definitely check out the muay thai. -
cross train?
VinnieDaChin replied to MFGQ's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
bjj is the way to go! -
Cant decide?
VinnieDaChin replied to mormonfiend's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
mma almost always involves muay thai (kickboxing to the next level) and BJJ, wrestling, or both. youll probably train both individually and put them together later. -
actually sevenstar, i think, and i may be wrong, that the issue is what 'traditional' martial arts have become today, at least in america; and i guess how they stack up to the more hardcore arts like muay thai. although, i have to throw in my two cents- lots of things taught in say, kempo, are either innefective, or at least inferior techniques compared to, again, muay thai.

seems like the guy wasnt a very good martial artist. and experience counts for a lot. i bet you the aggressor doesnt even spar with contact, if at all... and you guys do. next time, tell your friend not to let the guy get up, but to kick his head as hes getting up so to finish him of.. and, you know, end the threat.
-
while grappling knowledge is helpful in this case in that it can enable you from rolling on the ground to begin with, with limited time id say go for something like muay thai or boxing. the most effective striking arts, simple, quick to learn, no nonsense. personally id go against kempo- in a street fight boxing and the likes seems to work much better. oh, yea, definitely get that gun, and maybe a knife too.

videos wont help you learn without actual training

The line between fancy and effective
VinnieDaChin replied to Karate Kid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
the line between fancy and effective is really more of a giant gap. -
Kicks above the waist in a real fight?
VinnieDaChin replied to longarm25's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
kicks to the stomache are occasionally called for in a street fight. friend of mine got in a fight with three guys (unskilled guys, where as hes been wrestling all his life and been doin muay thai for 5-6 years or so) and one of them left his stomache wide open, so he thai kicked across it and actually made him projectile vomit. head kicks though, no way. -
i used to do double claps when i was benching 225 back in the day...
