I was once told by a fairly qualified source (Kanazawa Sensei) that there are no traditional Kata for the Nunchaku - only modern ones that have been made up with little basis in combat effectivenes. this being the case - why not make up your own?

A speed ball is skipping for your hands It's all about hand speed & hand-eye coordination -- and it ain't just about using a hammer fist. theya re LOTS of ways to work the speedball. In fact - one of Bruce Lee's original students once told me that Bruce used to work it with his feet - damn!

He banged his shin too hard and got a big egg on it - it turned nasty & he was dead 6 months later - Shin Cancer. You'd be horrified if you knew how many young Thai's over there die this way - they just sweep it under the carpet. Not good for business -

Hi all Last year a group of guys & gals in the UK who frequent a MMA forum caled "SFUK" decided to try something. The idea was simple - hire a big room full of mats, invite the world & his dog, spend the whole day rolling. No egos - just the free echange of knowledge through sparring. The entry fee would be nominal - just enough to cover the hire of the hall & mats. Sounded very idealistic but guess what - it worked! These are great - everyone just gets stuck in and helps each other out. If you get with someone of a similar level - you battle it out! In a friendly way of course. If you get a partner who you are significantly better than - you coach them - sometimes mini-clinics pop up for a while through this - then it's off to work again. You come & go on & off the mat as you like - no pressure, no egos. SFUK Open Mat 4 is this Sunday (21st) in Manchester, England - All of you UK based people are hereby invited Level of experience doesn't matter - everyone will learn. Sugden Sports Centre, 114 Grosvenor Street Manchester M1 7HL 1pm - 5pm £3 for training £1 for spectators Here's a link to the 2nd one that was at the same venue (You may even see some photos me little ol' me ) http://sfuk.tripod.com/events_01/om2.html

Does MA help getting into...

Obviously the way you get into college is entirely different here in England. One word of advice from experirnce for JACK. Hey JACK - when it comes time to apply for jobs DO NOT tell them you're a black belt. Trust me. They'll read that as you're an agressive person who likes to fight and has interests outside of work that could interfere with your job. Not good. I've witnessed this from both sides - I've seen the look on the panel's faces when I mention my martial arts interest - and now that I'm older & wiser and sit on those panels I have to persuade the other panel members that it's not the case. -
Hi Haya Look at it like this - when you where in high school (or maybe you still are) you studied many subjects at once. The human brain is a very sophisticated device and is more than capable of multi-tasking. At school you didn't suddenly try to add up the words when doing an English comprehension exercise did you? You can watch TV and drink a cup of coffee at the same time - you don't get confused & pour the coffee over the TV (I hope).

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 Billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C. The Russians used a pencil.

The speed ball is great - but NOISY! Check you have a suitable place to make a din before you buy one. I have some great stuff on tape that I could send you if you DO get one.

Who mentioned "us in the USA"? Who mentioned "Activists"? I'm not in the USA nor am I a human rights activist - and I agree, it's a global issue. What usually prevents things being done about human rights in the places you mention is two things. Money & politics. _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.uk Qualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.uk Qualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology) [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-04-18 09:54 ]

Let's open up a whole new can-o-worms "No one has the right to say that another individual can't practice their religion freely." ----- Unless that practice violates basic human rights?
