  1. "anti-hunting propaganda from some site." Nope - that's not what it was. I got it from a post on another martial arts forum made by a martial artist on a thread very much like this one. Disagree by all means - but don't label a guys opinion as propaganda. Like it or not - in the UK this IS a political issue. It certainly isn't a cultural or "pest control" issue.
  2. Kinda like when JJ Machado (BJJ Black Belt) entered a state Judo championships and won every fight by screwing up the takedown, jumping to guard then armbaring the opponent
  3. Yellow belt in BJJ? What's that all about? Belts in BJJ as I know it are white, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black - with stripes on each belt.
  4. On another forum someone posted this - just about sums up the political / social side of the issue... " I've lived in hunt communities all my life. And you'll tend to find that the most vehement anti-hunters are those, like me, who've actually seen the results of the hunt first hand. Hunting runs alongside alternative culling programmes. Its effect in controlling the fox population is minimal. As for damaging the ecosystem??? What is artificially altering the natural growth curve of the fox population other than damaging the natural ecosystem. If you want to protect your chickens, spend more on enclosure. If you want to protect your sheep, put a Llama in with the flock. Hunting doesn't exist to control the fox population. It is a totem of an outdated system. As for the jobs lost when the ban is effected, its about time the countryside alliance realised the direction of the new economy. Our agricultural sector is a lame duck. It eats up billions in subsidies and I fail to see why it is protected when mining, steel, fishing and manufacturing have all been subjected to the market. What is so special about the country way of life that it receives all the protection when the urban equivalents receive none? What value do they add that miners didn't? Why, after the unions were clobbered and the collective power of the working man was crushed, do a tiny minority receive so much ringfencing? I apologise to anyone from farming stock for my bluntness. I have nothing against you and was brought up around the sector. However, I resent the aesymmetrical way in which they are treated and I see hunting as the ultimate representation of that uneveness"
  5. I've heard a few variations over the years such as "Moo" Thai and "Mooee" Thai - but the guy in charge of out MT training - Ajarn Surchai Sirisute, pronounces is "Moy" Thai - "Moy" as in "Ploy" or "Boy". Here I am with him recently (left) http://www.cea.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ceaweb/images/ajarn-chai7.jpg _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.uk Qualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.uk Qualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology) [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-04-12 04:09 ] [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-04-12 04:09 ]
  6. Recently I put myself & some of my students up against some "pressure point" JJ guys in sparring - all-in, do what you want mode It hurt - it hurt a lot. They dug their thumbs into our temples & under our ears etc as hard as they could. They punched their knuckles into our tendons & pressure points. It hurt like hell but guess what? We didn't let go. We took the pain & we choked, armbarred, heelhooked & generally mauled them at will. Another factor we noticed is that they gassed out VERY quickly - so-called black belts gassing out after less than 2 minutes!!! I had guys with less than a years training tapping out 2nd degree black belts! The day after we suffered no ill efefcts after their deadly nerve & pressure point strikes. Guess we'll all drop dead in a few months though _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.uk Qualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.uk Qualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology) [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-04-12 03:59 ]
  7. "One must Crosstrain to achieve proficiency in all ranges of combat... " And yet again - JKD in another nutshell
  8. "with absolutely no concept of the Queensbury Rules... " Hey - you been to my club without introducing yourself? LOL!
  9. Lemon Fanta? Yeeeeuch Gimme alcohol & caffeine any day over THAT. Not together of course. Hmmmmm..... Vodka & Red Bull -
  10. Of course there is an ultimate martial art - it is, of course, unique for each of us. We must make it - JKD in a nutshell
  11. Ack Noooo...... Don't make me visualise it Sai - <<<>>>
  12. Again TKD I agree with what you are saying. It is not OK to kill one to save another. And again I say that if it was MY child that needed it I would do ANYTHING to save her - and I mean ANYTHING. It would be wrong - but my parental instinct would overide that. Any parents out there willing to back me up on that?
  13. Coffee Red Bull Some more coffee Hmmm........ is there a pattern there?
  14. I'm talking about the "traditional" country sport, popular with the upper classes here, of dressing up in red, ridind a horse & hunting down a Fox until the dogs tear it to pieces. The usual excuse is that of pest control - the reality is that it's an outdated elitist game with no place in modern society. One of the UK's biggest hunts has even been exposed for rearing foxes especially for the hunt - pest control?
  15. Yep Doug - a friend of mine is picking up a Knee Brace for me today. At least it will remind me that it's there when I get carried away like last night during Eskrima class. I forgot & when down onto one knee for a low strike - Yeeouch
  16. Hi all The practice of hunting with hounds / Fox hunting etc is up for vote in the UK parliament. There ere 3 possible outcomes... 1. Total ban 2. Licensing (i.e. The killing continues) 3. No change Do you think the act of hunting an animal and then having it ripped to pieces by a pack of dogs is an effective & ethically correct practice?
  17. YODA

    Which style

More important than the "vast range of styles" is what do you have the choice of in your area? You're not interested in sport - so what exactly are you interested in? Does it have to be "Karate"? Or are you using that as a generic term?
  18. Hi there "Byakuren" Kenpo? I've never heard of that - is that a person's name?
  19. TKD - on paper I agree with you. But as I said - things change when it's closer to home.
  20. Thanks for all the concern. It's feeling a little better but still very painfull if I try to kneel or apply any twisting movement to it. Rest - LOL! I have a full schedule of classes & private lessons to teach - and this weekend our Eskrima Grandmaster is flying in from the US to teach us for the weekend. It's gonna have to be a case of train around it rather than rest - at least for the next week. I've increased my Glucosamine Sulphate Dosage & I'm using a sports massage routine to increase blood & nutrient flow - Also I've got a friend with 25 years Tai Chi training coming over to work some magic spells on it - Hey -Ya never know!
  21. Hey Joe Chojun Miyagi
  22. It's all very well standing on the moral high-horse - but when it's your baby that needs that revolutionary treatment to live, whatever it is, opinions suddenly change.
  23. Hellooooo BJJBarbie
