Just wanna wish you all a happy Star Wars day for tommorrow May the 4th be with you.

I would rather train what I know now on my own than take any of those 3.

Take a look at the thread in this forum area called "Sport, street fighting, and personal growth...." ----- That should answer your question

Sport, street fighting, and personal growth....
YODA replied to YODA's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Me too I think what he's trying to say though, is that training for self defence without training athletically and without pressure testing what you do against a fully resisting opponent is a no-no. I know many who train in arts and never spar - because their stuff is just "too deadly" to spar with. This is utter hogwash. If you cannot test it you cannot apply it. He says elsewhere that in order to "add the dirty stuff" you must have a valid delivery system to add it too - a delivery system that you CAN spar & pressure test like boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ etc. Now THAT I agree with. -
Boxing Fencing Various formats of wrestling (Catch, Lancashire, Cumberland, Parisian .... and more) Savate (and it's brother Boxe Francais) La Canne (French stickfighting) I have a book that describes closing down ranges to get inside the opponents sword, different grips & clinches, trips & throws, headbutts, knees to the groin - and stomping on the opponent when he's down. The book was written by an Englishman, George Silver, in 1521. He also describes in detail the use of the short sword, sword & buckler, quarterstaff, forest bill, pike etc.

Getting back mount from guard
YODA replied to YODA's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Anyone tried any of these? Find them useful? Or am I just yodeling in a canyon again? -
I don't wear a Gi very often - but when I do (for grappling) I wear my heavyweight Milom's Balck Gi. Bought this 10 years ago - comes with a lifetime guarantee too. If it rips or wears through they will repair it free of charge! No sign of wear yet! I wear my ladies frock (Hakama) for Iaido practice

He's not talking about sport Karate. He's talking about Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, BJJ etc - combat sports that compete realistically with no complience. -
"Bruce Lee didn't perform the one inch punch properly.. He only used the top half of his body, his foot stance was wrong," - Sorry bud that's hogwash! Maybe he didn't use the footwork you expected to see but I can assure you his lower body WAS used - a lot. do some web searches on "pole punches" and the "Bow hip". Patrick Strong would be a good place to start. Anyway - back to the original question.... Developing inner strength.... Hard physical athletic training, against non compliant opponents. THAT will build more inner strength than sitting crossed legged under a waterfall thinking "me me me me".

Jiu-Jitsu
YODA replied to muaythaidm's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Depends on what you call Jiu Jitsu. The combative, athletic, applicable JJ people - i.e. BJJ, have no problem without the Gi. Most BJJ people I have traned with split their art into 3 sections... - Sport BJJ - Sport Vale Tudo - Street Only ONE of those involves wearing a Gi / Kimono. -
Hey -I'm only 20 Miles from Liverpool. You wouldn't happen to have the address of that tropical fish store would you?

 Check 'em out... http://www.dumblaws.com Here are a few samples... No children may attend school with their breath smelling of "wild onions" in West Virginia. In New York, a fine of $25 can be levied for flirting. This old law specifically prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way." A second conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to be forced to wear a "pair of horse-blinders" wherever and whenever he goes outside for a stroll. In Nevada, it is still legal for a person to hang another for killing their dog on their own property. In Atlanta it is against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp. In Georgia no one may carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket if it is Sunday. In Alabama it is illegal to wear a fake moustache that causes laughter in church.

Straight Leg Sit Up: 1. It CAN potentially injure your lower back. 2. It's not a direct abdominal exercise - it's a hip flexor (Psoas) exercise. Check out this list of potential problem exercises... http://www.blueridge.cc.nc.us/StudentServices/StudentLife/Clubs/Budokan/General_Information/10.htm

LOL! Lack of feedback is why it stopped - sometimes I feel like I'm yodeling in a canyon. I can here a lot of noise but I wonder if there's really anyone out there

Easy peasy f(e1) = e2. - 'cos I say so and I've got a big stick!

Do you expect a person who trains in one style to know the exect spellings from another style? I think if it sounds right it should be marked right - especially as this was a "from memory" quiz. Also - don't forget, the correct spelling of an oriental word is a set of Kanji - not a word written in our alphabet. There are quite often several acceptable spellings e.g Kung Fu / Gung Fu.

Our students start with weapons at the 1st class - and use them at every class after that
-
Leg curls yes - straight leg deads is a VERY easy way to screw up your lower back. They work but BE CAREFUL!

I just sooooooo wanted to be Gonzo - but it wasn't to be ..... or Rizzo

OK here goes.... To get the total mean you must have had to divide the total wages by the number of people - so mean = total / number We know the mean (396) and the number (10) so we get - 396 = total / 10 total = 396 * 10 = 3960 (total all wages) We can do the same for just the men... total = 400 * 8 = 3200 (total mens wages) So - the total wages for the women must be 3960 - 3200 = 760 There are 2 women - so their mean wage must be 760/2 = 380 ..... Tadaaaaaa!!!!

Hey I agree about the attitude - but I say Boxing & Muay Thai are BOTH martial arts

Good advice Jack
