  1. Well if they stay out of range they can't hurt you either now eh? And in-fighting range is where the realm damage is dealt, kicking range is just where you start moving in close.
  2. Taiji push hands are with contact...the no contact push/throw/insta kill!!! is just total * that needs to be eradicated from ppl's minds! Stomping generates more power than simply stepping forward at great speed?
  3. I have a hard time grasping how you can make urself face his center without making him face yours. Could you add to this quote?
  4. So what you are learning is a hybrid MA with JDK concepts. Pretty cool.
  5. that is what a pocket stick is.
  6. Pfft. A little courtesy would be in order, friggin' n00blet. Anyway, dismissing your perceived tone[...] What the hell! You seem to be the one with courtesy problems! I just asked to talk about it since nothing much was said on the subject and you stated having experience!
  7. During a freestyle combat session, we were learning a move where when someone throws a straight punch at you, you stack a step back and do a little jumping kick to the opponents chin while holding his extended hand. So my friend (who was instructing us since the usual intructor was absent) explained us the move, and then I went : "Oh! You mean like this?" Procededed to demonstrate but slipped and fell right on my bum in front of class. Stretched a leg muscle too .
  8. YES! Jeet Kune Do is a fighting philosophy/concept/principles. Not only that, but it has always existed, it's just that some styles didn't utilise it to it's full extent. At least that is what I can tell from reading "Tao of Jeet Kune Do" by the man himself (among other documents)
  9. Went to two ninjitsu classes, and it involved lot of locks and stuff, arg would love to say more but gtg.
  10. guns? pocket sticks...tonfas are legal but probably not really practical unless its for work.
  11. Because Korea made it the national sport.
  12. And stop saying you are learning to fight without style cuz your are learning the JDK style ... grrr.
  13. If he has the time and money (grrrr, where is the time where you can just go live at your master's home and do like housework for him instead of paying? ), he could continue shotokan and just try something else at same time.
  14. anyone can get them, its just harder for some ppl. Note that todays body culturists are going further and further away from human's natural physique. I would link a video of a GROSSLY muscled man lifting a 800 pound weight (not over his head mind you) if it wasn't linked to a errr...less than respectable web site . Just inhuman One thing taoism teaches you is to accept your nature. If you are not prone to having a six-packs. Accept it, don't go against nature. Your abs are still as strong. And about those men and women going through hard core diets and stuff just to lose their little fat around the waist. Well if it works good for you, if not, YOU ARE STILL BEAUTIFULL! (yeah, I guess men can be beautifull too). Ok this is just too pretty i'm gonna cry
  15. vale tudo is a rule set of full contact matches in a cage ring. Elbows, knees, grappling, locks, submissions are all accepted. kinda like UFC i guess.
  16. Same dan as your son, aren't you ashamed of yourself??! Hehhe don't worry I'm just kidding (actually, you should be proud of your son ) Damn, when I'll have kids I hope I'll get them interested in MA...heck I hope I'll still be doing MA.
  17. Kbwannabe, MT is the #1 striking art in the ring for a good reason. I'd say a MT guy with some sanda throws and street brawling wits (is not limited by ring rules) would be very scary indeed. Someone said earlier that a TMA is better than MT in the streets. Well one thing which I came to realise as a weakness in my kf training is that we do not spar enough (we do plenty of juai chiao though). Through full contact sparing one will get to condition his body and mind (one thing I often hear at my kwan is that pain is all in the head )to receiving and dealing blows at full strenght (which is why I started taking freestyle combat classes). Mastering your TMA style is one thing, but if receiving a blow full strenght in the face unsettles you to the point of not being able to corretly apply what you have learned, you probably gonna lose. This is the main strenght of MT that I see, conditioning. ps : yes you can condition yourself as well or even better than MT guys in any styles, but as far as I understand, kickboxing styles are probably the styles that do this the most consistantly.
  18. A friend of mine has an ex who does wing chun (he does shaolin with me) and often sparred with her when they were together. She could probably land more punch on him and he could on her, but he didn't complain while he got hit a little hard, but she did. Of course I am not generalising for the whole gender based on this situation, but ppl that does MA without wanting to get a little hurt now and then, ticks me off
  19. For a laugh check out this one : http://www.roaringtigerma.com/Movies/Hapkido.mpg this website has some ... I guess you could call them interesting : http://www.jinjungkwan.com/demonstration.htm few breaks with hands/foot/sword at top, at the bottom of the page there are demonstrations. What is it with all the jumping and twirling in the air?! Demo Reel 2 has some NICE kicks, interesting locks, again I am not convinced of those throws. If anyone has some good hapkido footage...please share. ps : check out the last video, the interview. He slices a cucumber on someone's NECK! Nice show of dexterity, but I have to say with say this sort of thing falls down in my personal STUPID THING TO EVEN TRY category. Impressive though.
  20. Capoeira is something I would love to learn, maybe not much for the self-defense aspect but for the gymnastic/MA tricks aspect. From what I have seen of capoeira (which pretty much only was on tv and the net), it is actually more of a dance than a fighting method. Is it really just a ...perhaps martial oriented dance or is it a complete martial art? Is there "combat capoeira"?
  21. what is the point anyway, the chain/rope makes it "fold" and all.
  22. ...or Shaolin. (My Jong Law Horn has it too since it is also part of Shaolin)
  23. Is Bagua the northern equivalent to Taichi? I understand they are both slow practiced internal arts. What are the differences and other similarities to those arts?
