  1. Most shaolin spears I have seen in vids and in online-shops are 7' long (6'staff with 1'head). I know for a fact that in sojutsu koryus (just think japanese spear arts) you have spears that can be 11 feet long and up. Were historical warfare chinese spears really just 7'long or was this regulated later for wushu?
  2. edit : Well I did a double post and since I can't delete well I'll just make a thread out of this one. What are the ideal measures and weight for chinese straight swords?
  3. And on top of that, its illegal! --------------------------------------- Hmm, I'd say a pocket stick (disguised as a keyring perhaps). You'll get in trouble if you walk around with weapons anyway.
  4. Kyokushin has no elbows, and often does not allow punches to the head (or clinches and throws)
  5. I have read here and there on the net that unproper meditation can have dangerous affects. From, the wild claims that you make yourself an easier target to demons or whatever to enter your mind or that you risk unbalancing your mental sanity or to death. Personally I think that is just crazy. But if any of you heard or beleive there are certain risks in meditating (other than getting late for work because you meditated too long in the morning), enlighten us on how and why such risks exist.
  6. Yes 80 votes are quite a lot! (up to now) Anyhow many people voted others, so I could have added more alternatives. Maybe I should have added Kempo as a separate item but then there is this controversy if kempo/kenpo should be considered a karate style or a different MA. Probably many votes under Others were for kempo. Sorry for my rambling. Since when kempo is not considered Karate?
  7. I never got an adrenaline rush... heard its like coke! haha
  8. I don't get it.. He knew stuff, but didnt practice a MA...and you did..so it was funny?
  9. Looking for vids of sojutso (spear) and jojutso (staff) katas. Trying to compare the japanese and chinese differences of katas and forms. So if anyone has links or can send me some, would be greatly appreciated .
  10. No one else? Yeay! Spear wins
  11. You guys should try finding an instructor. Don't necessarily need to go to a class regularily, just get corrections and tips from a certified instructor like twice a month could boost your skills greatly.
  12. Heh, a bit silly, but sure would be different. A french dude, kinda inspired by the musketeers. Name: Charles Montesqieu Race: Human Side: Good Allies: All the Good alligned chicks, cuz hes such a flirt. Foes: All the evil alligned guys...cuz they are rude bullies Style 1 : Traditional Savate (kicks and open hand strikes) Style 2 : Greco-Roman wrestling with punches and kicks. Weapon style : escrime
  13. You mean as a person or MA wise? I haven't had a great improvement lately on my MA skills: exams, relationship problems and job search has been chewing on my training time. But at least I'm working out enough to not lose shape and dull my skills. Dying to learn some shaoling staff stuff, heck could be kobudo bo katas, I don't care! Been reading on Buddhism, very insightfull ... Yeah thats pretty much it . Thanks for asking
  14. You can't perfect a fighting style! There is always more you can add
  15. Seems nice, have fun, train hard, kick butts .
  16. Spear. The Roman empire was based on it's spear wiedling footmen. More range, gets those horse rider down.

  18. How is knife techniques in kalaripayat ? From the documentary I saw it seems a bit ...weird. Unrealistic even. It was traditional, so maybe that is why.
  19. Of course stances are transitory. Which is why I find mabu so important, from that position you have balance and power, and can go into whatever stance you need.
  20. refering to the shuai jiao part of kungfu I do. Heck I don't even know if its actual juai chiao, looks like wresting to me.
  21. ...by maybe getting ur arm in a lock, grappling, clinch, throwdown...
  22. I don't get it....if you aim at his arm...he doesn't have to "try" to block ...he just blocks it....
  23. 1. Mabu (horse) ! Bringing it back to the basics! Plus working on your mabu to gunbu transition while punching helps practice that hip rotation. 2. Cat stance. Just looks pretty! 3. Bear stance. Its what I use when doing juai chiao
  24. Yeah, both are neat. Check out the schools, and hope that the one 10min from your home is the one you will prefer
