  1. The armours back then in the east (chinese or huns) was pretty light.
  2. Arf, you got me! I can't read! I just looked at the pictures. Heck, if any of what I type in my posts make sense, its pure luck! I just randomly hit my keyboard!
  3. What is the point of making them twirl btw? I mean for combat efficiency.
  4. Yeah the Rambo type characters really got out of date. She has to be flawed in some way. Love sifufei's post, the environment defines the characters.
  5. Is it me or is this about only japanese MA? Still very interesting
  6. And if anyone says Bruce Lee I will tear your heart out!
  7. Monkey style is very physicial, lots of gymnasticish movements. Personally I wouldn't fight in monkey style but like for every animal styles there are stuff you can take and incorporate. And for the silly gestures and faces, supposedly its to confuse your opponent. Making him beleive you don't take it seriously or what ever.
  8. Giving her a title holding champion would make her known and hinder false idendities during secret ops!
  9. No, no, no! Her powers comes from telepathic/telekinetic advancements due to breeding manipulations!
  10. I want to learn the deadly art of Tango
  11. Baseball bat. Easier to learn, easier to apply.
  12. People think ninjas are evil mystic beings who can appear and disapear at will. I wouldn't say people know what they are
  13. Jet Li trained at the Shaolin Temple, that is all I know. Ninjitsu does not seem bad. Only ninjitsu styles I know are taijitsu and ninpo (I think they are styles..) Ever heard of the game Tekken? Each character has his or her own martial art style. Some of them are made up: Like Mishima family style Karate, Combined Martial Arts based on judo. Other styles are just very vague: Xing yi based martial arts, Traditional Karate, Five Style chinese MA. Or take for example Nina, the sexy stealth assasin trained in Assasination Techniques based on Bone Martial Arts and Aikido. Here the Bone MA is totally made up then a general statement is made about Aikido. Anyway whatever style you give to your character, I think you have to add in Aiki-jujutsu (mother style of aikido and judo)! Would fit well with her SWAT profession, being able to disarm and neutralise enemies much bigger than her with ease .
  14. I just tried after reading the thread, I can do 2. I'm real light though.
  15. Hm..we got couples at my kwan, but I never seen them do anything unapropriate. It really boggles my mind why a couple would kiss or I don't know what happens at your dojo in a MA class.
  16. Ontario ..6-8 hours i think? Perhaps I could go there during a weekend or something. EDIT : Looks like they are located in Montreal (which is in Quebec), that is like 2-3 hours drive !
  17. Ok, I can't get an instructor in MT around here (as far as I know, anyway I don't have time or money for one). So I'm trying to get as much serious documentation I can get to upgrade my sparring skills. Now this video explains the classical MT roundhouse : http://www.groundfighter.com/uploads/videos/MuayThaiVol4.ram I found this video extremely helpfull in explaining the mechanics of the kick. I just want to know from peeps who train MT if that is the way they learned it too!? (EDIT : Ok, to play the first movie, you need Real player.) This video : http://www.swedishmuaythai.nu/film/kick4.wmv shows it a bit differently I think. The last kick seems to be the same with the previous video though, except for the arm. So what ya guys think? Should I start practicing the kick as explained here?
  18. I'm pretty sure the ninja-to (ninja swords) were often used with the scabbard in fights.
  19. This is funny cause here is a story one of my friends told me : So 3 of my friends were at some arcade down town, when some guy, surrounded by his "gang" decides to pick on my 6'1" 200lbs friend. So they start pushing him and stuff, one of our buddies jump in to defend him...while the 3rd friend (like 300 pounds too!) totally WALKS AWAY! Now the fight didn't escalate more than that, happily. Later when they questioned our mate who walked away, he answered : "Hey, it wasn't MY problem!" .... Talk about a real "friend". Kinda loss a little respect for him after that.
