  1. I can do...kip-ups! hehe working on hurricane twists...to be able to do tornado kicks and dragon in the mud.
  2. When I was younger (like...up to 12 yrs old) I always did lots of physical activities and sports. I couldn't stand in one place for long, always had to move. Then when I got in my teens I kinda stopped doing sports...other than the school's basketball team. Well It wasn't enough. I got heavily depressed shortly after. Few years later I tried working out in a gym, but couldn't get motivated for long. Martial Arts always seemed interesting for me (thanks TMNT) but never got myself to do some. A friend of mine who was doing kung-fu finally convinced me to check it out. Loved it ever since. MA has everything I had in mind when I thought of being "in shape". Physical strenght, agility, cardio, coordination, concentration. It just has so more depth than any sports or gym workouts I ever witnessed. Plus it is a great (and much needed) stress relief and fun hobby to have. And now that I do MAs, it gave me a new motivation to workout at a gym between MA sessions .
  3. Bad, he probably would be faster than most, but just 1 or 2 punches from those steroids filled monsters and he'd be going down.
  4. Oh, I was not bashing KM when I was talking about that book, was just saying that a book that says such stupidities (or such a HUGE exageration, or tries to mislead ppl) is the kind of stuff that gives certain MAs bad reps.
  5. Well bagua is mostly matched with xing yi, but dependant on the exact style there are some baji elements. At least that is what I have been told from a friend who has read on the subject. It could very well be the link between Pingua and bagua and baji that got mixed up. With more research Bagua could be described as a soft in-fighting style while baji is a hard in-fighting style. Even with the hard/soft difference they both incorporate internal techniques. Anyway you got me really interested in Pigua and Baji, doubt I can find a good teach in my area, but I'll look it up.
  6. this is just the case of a nutbag walking around with a knife. Sorry to say cuz im sure a couple ppl that comes to this board carry knives, and it's just a bad idea. Get a pocket stick
  7. Well I started studying Buddhism on my own. I would like to say I wouldn't...but I would probably go ape * on him .
  8. Jacky Chan's opinion on diets : Eat whatever you want, as long as you work out accordingly.
  9. I'm lean and trim. But it's my metabolism...have always been, even during periods where I did 0 physical activity. Bad thing is that I find it harder to gain much muscle mass than some of my ...less lean friends. But I do get this cool muscle definition, which my less lean friends have a hard time getting .
  10. looks alot like whip chain moves (from what I saw in kill bill)
  11. When was shaoling kung fu part of the argument? I wouldn't even recommand shaolin for someone who wishes to learn a MA for the sole purpose of self-defense. I'm not delusioned about my style. Note that I did not suggest kung-fu in my previous posts. MT is intense, true. The practitioners get to be pretty fit and well conditioned. But on the technical aspect, is it the best thing to learn for defense in constrictive spaces (like a over crowded bar)? Greatly doubt so. Just pointing out that too many ppl think MT is the utltimate and that it is the best choice whatever the situtation is.
  12. Nope...I know there a Baji elements in Bagua Zhang though
  13. Sadly, there are info out there that harms every MAs. Like this book I found searching about KM : Krav Maga : An Essential Guide to the Renowned Method--for Fitness and Self-Defense ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0312331770/qid=1099366445/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/102-2477450-1916109 ) Taken from the introductory chapters of this book : 5 mins? yeah right. Stopped reading the book's preview on amazon after that line.
  14. Why not take a MA that will get you fit AND a good fighter? (or MArtist or however you call yourself) At my kwan, depending on which student instructor or if the sifu gives the class (or on their mood ), we get those really physically intense classes with lots of work out activities and sparring, or we get "softer" classes with a lot techniques and new material. I love learning new stuff at the kwan, but I feel as good after an exhausting work out.
  15. any other ma you can take in ur region? If ur sifu makes ur training not fun, where is the point?
  16. he is probably better, but remember there won't be much flying side kicks and axe kicks to the head in the streets
  17. What the article says is that the ring actually benefits grapplers vs rest. One cannot say grappling is superior solely basing himself on those sporting events.
  18. I totally disagree with Ted T. Depends of your own morals. how can you make such a generalisation. Plus what you just said depends on if the person beleives in souls or spirits.
  19. You can't possibly fight well drunk, drunk boxing or not.
  20. basically, leopard is as aggresive as tiger, but will give up powerfull strikes and stable stances for more explosiveness and faster/more strikes. but yeah, druken monkey is right, there are more than 1 set of styles but that is the differences in what I learn.
  21. Taken from the very insteresting article : http://www.donrearic.com/streetreality.html
