  1. I know you can learn cane in traditional Savate. There are even cane competitions (sparrings) In Europe...
  2. My favorite would have to be Mantis, because of the lightning quick strikes and counters, good use of vital points (those little mantis hooks!) and I beleive it to be quite an aggresive style yet leaves very litte openings in your defense.
  3. Hypothesis : Males have fought for different reasons throughout evolution: perhaps we have some sort of a primal fighting style encoded in our genes that we must override when learning a MA? -------------------------- At my kwoon I think the few girls we have don't practice for the fighting aspect, so I have no idea how good they'd be in a spar. yet again, I haven't sparred that much myself...which is why I'm signing on for the combat classes! (full contact )
  4. Black belt is just the end of your "beginner" status, not the end of your learning. Take shaolin as an example (there are no belt system in traditional shaolin but that is not the point), no one has ever mastered the whole shaolin system because it is too vast, so one should never see his "student" status ever be accomplished. I am sure it is true for many other arts.
  5. Read some passages of that book over amazon.com (Dead Or Alive: The Choice Is Yours : The Definitive Self-Protection Handbook by Geoff Thompson), seems interesting. Have you read it? Do you recommend it?
  6. Darn right! You can't dodge the flapping ear attack or the "midnight super" punch! ...
  7. Once, my dog bit me, and I told him " BAD DOG" like real loud, he totally ran away....I won! ps : sowwy, late and tired
  8. You sicko!!! Btw, does anyone know of the self-defense system Defendo? Developped by a british soldier who lived in canada during WWII...

  11. Been messing around with my nunchaku for about two weeks now, been practicing the basic moves but now I just don't know what to do . Anyone knows of a website with free video clips of nunchaku demonstrations? Also, if someone knows of a VERY GOOD (don't wanna spent money on something not worth it!) video that every nunchaku ..artist(?) should buy, I would like to know. Thanks in advance. ps : websites with very explicit (precise) descriptions backed up with pictures would do, instead of video clips.
  12. Sais are pretty much wielded lie knives....right? ...
  13. I don't know what those issues are, but I want em!
  14. Saw a doc on discovery channel about it, though it was pronounced Kalariprayat. Used by the king's bodyguards and elite soldiers in old india. Movements are pretty different from eastern systems, as well as their weapons. They also used alot of pressure points...all I know.
  15. Was created by mid class and low class french citizens who would fix their problems (by dueling, rarely to death) with a type of fighting that is inspired by fencing, used by the rich citizens who could afford swords. It mainly used kicks at first, with some open handed striking. Though when a savate exponent got whooped by an english boxer, they rapidly added striking techniques. Later weapons were added for self-defense (knives, walking sticks [La Cane], even chairs). In france you can find schools that teaches "Traditional" savate, as well as the more popular sport savate boxing (which is quite similar to kick boxing or muay thai, but with more kicks). Also the french police force has devolopped the "Savate self-defense", which seems to be very effective in the streets.
