  1. Wait until you know the basics. I'm a red belt in TKD and I just am starting to dabble in BJJ
  2. IMHO, the most effective martial art on the streets is track ;D
  3. I'd replace Rickson with Helio, probably...the guy was TINY and was an amazing "pound for pound" guy...
  4. Yeah - we do a few basic knife defense things and we do work a lot with sticks and batons and such, but I still think that nunchaku (at least in MY experience) are for show
  5. Rest in Peace to the fine young musician from the group TLC, whose biggest hits were "Waterfalls" off their ten-million selling CRAZYSEXYCOOL and "No Scrubs" off their 2000 album FAN MAIL. She was a really good lyricist even though I'm not a fan of R&B at all. She was killed in a car crash in Honduras...all other 6 in the car are OK...well, here's a bit that she wrote. I seen a rainbow yesterday But too many storms have come and gone Leavin' a trace of not one God-given ray Is it because my life is ten shades of grey I pray all ten fade away Seldom praise Him for the sunny days And like His promise is true Only my faith can undo The many chances I blew To bring my life to anew Clear blue and unconditional skies Have dried the tears from my eyes No more lonely cries My only bleedin' hope Is for the folk who can't cope Wit such an endurin' pain That it keeps 'em in the pourin' rain Who's to blame For tootin' caine in your own vein What a shame You shoot and aim for someone else's brain You claim the insane And name this day and time For fallin' prey to crime I say the system got you victim to your own mind Dreams are hopeless aspirations In hopes of comin' true Believe in yourself The rest is up to me and you RIP "Left Eye" - you really "burned down the house"
  6. Well, I think there are only two points to the martial arts: Self defense, most important, practical moves and stuff and Demo stuff - flashy almost useless, very athletically challenging, looks damn cool I don't really find a point to training how to fight with weapons seeing as a street combat situation isn't gonna involve swords or chucks.
  7. Started March 7th when I was eleven...and I'll be 15 this June.
  8. One of my instructors is very talented with the nunchaku, and he taught us some stuff, and this site has made me better with the close-ups and slowed down movies - major kudos! http://soulgrind22.homestead.com/
  9. Contact a guy called Brighthand on http://www.abudokan.com - he was an "apprentice" in Japan
  10. I don'tr take business classes or anything, but a word of advice: you need assistants. Look for people who are also black belts to go on the venture with you.
  11. Some schools do these things. We have to pay $150, but that is only to cover the new uniform (costs around 80 bucks), testingcost (wood, etc.), and a belt with your name embroidered in it.
  12. Just wanted any info you have on the guy! Thanks a lot
  13. Ad...there are a TON of great, AMAZING bands who aren't "famous" by any means, and then they compete with some gay ass comercialized stars like "Lil Romeo" or Britney Spears..."I can't believe it's not butter" sort of crap
  14. What does being rich have to do with being good? One of my favorite albums EVER, Fungus Amoungus by Incubus, sounds like they recorded it in the shower . I personally can't stand the idea of a person who doesn't have any real musical talent (instruments, SINGING), and a lot of these teen stars these days can't write a lyric to save themselves. It's a sad world. I RESPECT all music, though I cannot say it pleases my ear. I like reading some rap lyrics though - I think Tupac, DMX, and Dr. Dre are all lyrically talentes - now all they need is a guitar? A drum set? A TAMBOURINE ?
  15. This HAS been done a couple of times, but a lot of the newer members weren't here...here's list of my fave bands in no particular order: Led Zeppelin Incubus Black Sabbath Rage Against the Machine Sevendust Green Day Nirvana Goo Goo Dolls Oh, and IMHO, rap is just a shortening of CRAP...j/k
  16. Since I train at the same school as my three brothers, we pretty much get a rake-off - $300 a month for all of us. I also train in BJJ for free since I work for my instructor, and I get a lot of free stuff - I haven't had to pay for any equipment in a LONG tme . I live in a very rich, snobby area () so everything is pretty much very expensive. Oh, and the tuition covers three days a week, though I usuallly go 4...no one realy cares, I am the "school roach" - they can't get rid of me
  17. IMHO, morality and religious mroality or "Christian morality" don't have to and will never have to be the same thing. I know atheists with morals, too! It all has to do with a person's perceptions of "right" and "wrong" and how much of a concious (NOT a God) they have in their lives. That's my 2 cents.
  18. So...I went on a..well, not really a diet...it's more an urge to eat healthy, and I've been doing tons of abdominal excercises, and they DEFINITELY are tightening my tummy nicely . Anyway...I do have on annoying little problem! People say they have a "six pack" of abdominal muscles - I have a four pack! mY upper and middle stomach muscles are very toned, but then the ones below and at my belly button are NOT...it looks a little strange...does anyone have any good abdominal excercises for this particular area? Thanks A TON!
  19. I don't get the title of this thread. Real black belts as oppsed to what?
  20. How about "a moment of silence" as in some American schools? I think that is utter horse crap! Kids have to remain in their seats, so while many religions are given the chance to pray normally, some religions, such as Muslims, can't. I think a lot of things that we do in society should be eliminated becasue of religios conflict (ie. forcing someone to say the pledge of allegiance, swearing "so help you God" in a court of law, etc.)
  21. NO! those are his PLANS for tatoos that he WANTS to get!
  22. Some people don't even believe in God, so why even bring the idea up in school?
  23. Well, I recently got my red belt ...that was a good thing! My brothers passed their tests, too! Still working (and I wil be for a LONG time) on the BJJ yellow belt!
  24. I know my ultimate dream is to be a criminal profiler for the FBI - which means many, many, many (you get it) years as a field officer most likely. I think they train in a lot of modern combat systems (krav maga, sambo, BJJ, etc.)
  25. Yeah - just ask me...if I am fully warm, I can do a side kick like the ones in commercials and stuff...where my foot is totally facing upwards towards the ceiling - I am not even CLOSE to doing a split, at least that's what I think (my instructor says maybe this year is "finally my year". GOALS: Short term: Learn how to do a better armbar from the guard - I am a female fighting against mostly males - if I could do submissions from the guard, I'd be world better! Also, do well at an upcoming tournament, and in our upcoming school demo. Hold my own against TKD black belts and BJJ blue belts in sparring (hold my own AKA not get pulverised.die ) Long term: Black belt TKD, Yellow belt BJJ (black belt is such a distant goal for a teenage grappler, I'll stick with the next rank), be ABLE TO DO A SPLIT FOR NO PARTIC REASON, improve my school average to a 95...that's about it...if I think of more I'll surely add them!
