I think cross-training is by far the best. I take TKD and BJJ and it's great. Grappling is good in self defense because many of the moves (like the rear naked choke) take care of an opponent without permanently damaging them. Also, most BJJ schools teach standing techniques - throws, headlock escapes, fingerlocks if someone pushes you against a wall, bear hug defense, etc. Though I would want to rely on striking in a fight, many fightds end up on the ground after a person is pushed or thrown by their opponent or somebody slips. That's where I would use my grappling knowledge to escape a potentially fatal position

I'm with CKD...I have an SNES and the games beat the hell out of Playstation 2 my brothers play with...I mean, I'll take Mario over a 178 stage mega story game...I don't want to be at the console for 13 hours to play. I also go with my other classic, The Nintendo 64 - love the old thing...update of the classic. I have played all of the ones Lau listed, and Xbox has the best graphics, but without the games its toast.

"Things won are done; joy's soul lies in the doing." William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), Troilus and Cressida, Act 1, Scene 2 I see, at my school and others, people quitting upon getting blackbelt! I look at black belt as my first major goal - but definitely not the last? What do you think?

Today I finished "The Virgin Suicides" - it was an odd plot but I liked that it was written from first person plural.

Rickson Gracie Flowcharts

Gotcha....I really like the Achilles Lock, but I'm not allowed to use it in class, because we spar in class by the beginner BJJ tournament rules - mostly the only thing below the waist is the straight knee bar - if they allow that all. -

Where's the knee-on-belly in that flowchart? -

I'd have to say that out of all the positional advantages, I have the hardest time w/submissions from side control. These are cool. -
Gi or no Gi?
three60roundhouse replied to YODA's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I would say 95% in gi.....that's all I actually train in, but my brother is a wrestler, I like to roll with him for fun - I'd like to be comfy in gi before I start tarining no gi. -
I am curently reading a book called "Falling Leaves: The Story of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter" - very good... Just finished "American Psycho" - awesome book, a little too gorry. Also..."Second Chance" by james Patterson is a good one...make sure you read "1st To Die" first!

KG - I am betting on seeing a lot of Atkins-related heart attaks in the future. Having a fatty steak for breakfast can't be that much better than a loaf of white bread!

Help me with my demo!
three60roundhouse replied to three60roundhouse's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well, the demo is over - I did my pattern and afterwards was asked by my instructor to break with my worst kick - 360 back kick, but I broke on the first try, so all is well. -
Help me with my demo!
three60roundhouse posted a topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
My school has a demo coming up, a big charity thing we do each year when we have a black belt test - we call it a "black belt extravaganza"...well, anyway - at these demo things i usually perform a pattern with my three brothers who also study at our school (kind of like a freak show ) , but they can't make it this year so I was wondering what break I should do. Only a select few get to break at the demo, and I get to mainly because I am too big for the kids demo and too young to "fit in" to the adult one, and my instructor said I can break and maybe do a pattern, too.... To make a long, rambling story short...what break should I do!? I'm 14, I can kick VERY high, but 360 back kicks are NOT my thing, so no recommendations for those. My spinning hook kick also is a little feeble, so none of those either, k? -
I agree. Great movie!

Respecting Younger Instructors
three60roundhouse replied to monkeygirl's topic in Instructors and School Owners
It all depends on your definition of "kid", McGee...is that a person who is young age wise, maturity wise, or what? When my instructor opened his first tiny dojang, he was only 27, i think - and he was teaching some 50 year old men! -

KickChick, at what age is someone no longer a "child"? At what age does someone become worthy of instructing you? -
Hello! My family is a "tae kwon do family"! My three brothers and I all train at the same school! Anyway, welcome to the forums....
