Why did you join the martial arts?
Karateka_latino replied to LeaF's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I joined in the martial arts because of the Movies. When i was a kid my mom and my uncle used to take me to watch kung fu movies back on the early 80's when it was HOT lol I'd say movies and self defense were the main reasons i joined into the martial arts. -
shin conditioning
Karateka_latino replied to shabz's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Once a Thai boxer advice me that in order to condition your shins, you should kick the heavy bag. Just doing several sets of kicking will do the job. NO rolling things you your shin, Like bottles and stuff like, NO kicking trees. Just kick the heavy bag. -
There are some Old kung Fu movies from the 70's and 80's that i like them and own. i have a small collection of chinese martial arts movies. Forget about the Plot and forget about storyline.. Honestly. Who really CARES about that?? lol Fast Forward to see the action only lol Those movies were made by REAL kung fu masters, coreography from Pekin Opera School, Daredevil stunts,etc... The problem we have is those movies were made for Chinese audience who have another style of make movies. American martial arts movies (Don Wilson, Richard Norton, Cynthia Rothrock *She looked great on Chinese martial arts movies*, Michael Dudikoff, Van Damme etc..) on the other hand, are really BAD. Not only they keep the bad acting and plotless But Also BAD coreography, BAD moves, and really bAD action Direction. There are a FEW american martial arts movies that i like. Do you remember that time in where ALL kickboxing champs were making movies?? Don Wilson, Rob Kaman, Dale "apollo" Cook, Maurice Smith,etc.. they all made TERRIBLE movies. Now for the records, that doesn't mean American MA actors Sucks, as martial artist, NO. Most of them are terrific martial artist, BUT that doens't mean your moves will look good on screen. As for Wire Fu goes. Those movies are taken from Chinese Fantazy novels. Its like when you take a Comic book hero and put it on Screen.. You expect Superman to fly on the movies just like when you read it on the comic book do you? See U people.

old kung fu movies
Karateka_latino replied to sentry's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I've Lots of those old kung fu movies "bad acting , good kung fu".. Movies like Fist of legend and Drunken Master 2 were made on the 90's so i doesn't really know if that counts as an "OLD" kung fu movies because they arent That old and compared with the ones for the 70's and early 80's its like apple and orange. So, i'll skip those two ( they were GREAT) and i'll focus only on the 70's and early 80's classics. Prodigal Son was great. Secret Rivals 1 & 2 Drunken Master 1, Snake on Eagles Shadow and Young Master were the best of Jackie Chan's old movies. Shaolin Temple, the best shaolin movie i've ever saw. -

As a matter of Fact.. I've dated girls from the "forbidden" places...School, students, work..etc.. and those have been my best relationships ever. On the other hands. Girls that i've met in parties, bars, .. those relationship hasn't gone anywhere and ended badly
-
Just wanted to bring this back again. I've heard this many times.. Dont date girls from the Dojo.. Don't date girls from your classroom... don't date girls from your work... don't date your students.. don't date your best friends sisters...don't date your next door neighboor... etc.. etc.. so Which girl im allowed to date then??.. lol Look you don't know which is the person who'll become the love of your life. you husband/wife who'll be with you until death. The only way to know it is by go ahead and try. You just need to be carefull and mature on what you are going to do. But we just can't keep saying NO to everything just because we need to handle it in a more carefull way. Besides, if you trully like the person and the person likes you back. you'll send Hell everything and you'll date her or him lol Love is something really tricky.

Should any black belt be able to open a dojo
Karateka_latino replied to Adonnis's topic in Instructors and School Owners
This will also depends on what styles and Schools we are training in. In BJJ it takes 10 and even 15 years go get a black belt. They usually allow Purple belts, 5 to 7 years of training, to open Schools. Also i saw a Traditional Karate and Judo School in which you needed to have at least 6 years of training to get a shodan. -

Ed O'Neil aka. Al Bundy Purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with a record of 200-0 in NHB matches against Kelly's Bundy Boyfriends and he's a shoes salesman .. He's a true martial arts warrior lol -
No man, im not wrong. I took that info from a Kung Fu magazine i have in which they have an interview with Jet li and he told about the styles he used on The One. You can also check the official site.. Jetli.com and look for "the one" and they have a descriptions of the 2 styles used on the movie. see you.

which go together better?
Karateka_latino replied to rabid hamster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Taekwondo and Hapkido combo works very very good, brother. -
Hello, I've done Shotokan, Taekwondo and a little Kung Fu and my advice is.. Stay in Thai Boxing. Traditional arts are good, but it takes too long to be proficent on them. and from what i think you want is quick effective self defense techniques. Stay in Muay thai and take something like Jiu-jitsu or Sambo for stand up and ground grappling. Now, if what you want is devote yourself to learn traditional martial arts, i guess Karate and Kung Fu can do the job. Taekwondo is mostly a Sport this days . Any of those arts are fine as long as you are in a good School with a good master.

Did you know that Vin Diesel (The Fast and the Furious, XXX) is a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu?? I've heard that Nicolas Cage and Jim Carrey also train on it. and Ed Oneil (Al Bundy from Married with Children) is a Blue Belt from Rorion Gracie lol -
Your art?
Karateka_latino replied to three60roundhouse's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hello, I do Freestyle Ju-jitsu. It blends many styles like Ju-jitsu (stand up and ground), Aikido, judo and Hapkido,...and boxing and kickboxing for the striking ... It's Like blending ju-jitsu styles back together into a much modern style for today self defense needs. We do stand up striking techniques(kicks, punches, elbows and knees), join locks and throws and ground grappling. and defense against weapons (knifes, sticks, etc..) -

I'm not sure, all i know is that it takes forever to get a black belt and a life time for Dans. That bring back the respect for color belts. lol
