Coordination and karate
Karateka_latino replied to Poseidon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I remember when i had coordination problems.. the solution for me was Concentrate in what i was doing. Focus on the techniques and the sucesion and then perform.. do it slow first and then faster.. And Yes, Practice, practice , practice. -
Yes, I think the same.. Keep it simple. I just wonder.. how can some people do to archive 7 black belts in diferent martial arts??. 7 black belts with DANS, 4 dan karate, 5 dan TKD, 7 dan hapkido, 4 dan Judo, 4 dan Jiujitsu??? I mean, that people don't have a job, a wife, childrens, a Life? How much they really train to be effective on each style they claim to know? If you have spend a life time to archive a high dan , almost 20 years to reach a 4 dan.. Then I wonder how old are this people? 500 years Old??.

Tiger and Dragon
Karateka_latino replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We are more a Tiger when we are younger , as we are when we are martial arts beginners. When we grow older, we gain wisdom and understanding and become more Dragon. -

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
Karateka_latino replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
It think we don't put out Jakie Chan. just because he looks funny on screen it doesn't mean he can't kick butt. I have been reading a bio of jackie. and the guy trully knows a lot of styles. Nothern and Sourthen Kung Fu, Pak Mei, Wing Chun, Hung gar, Boxing, karate, Taekwondo , Hapkido, etc.. Jackie is heavy into boxing as Bruce was. besides they guy was training since he was a kid on the Chinese Opera.. Bruce started to train when he was a teenager. People often think ( i accept sometimes i thought that too ) that Bruce will win for sure , but that is mostly because of the legend and the unbeatable label he have.. But remember nothing is sure in a fight, and I think a fight between them, Jackie could have a LOT of chances to win. -
I think the Crosstraining have to be with ranges and distances. its not.."I'll be a karate bb, and a tkd bb, and a judo bb and wushu bb".. I'm agree that for a beginner is better have a base style first, then look the Stong and weak point of the style and then look the styles to improve that weakness... not the weakness of the style , but what YOU need to be complete. Also, don't be concern about getting a black belt in each style you crosstrain. Worry for improve your skill.

Hi Crosstraining is great, No single art can give you everything you need to be a complete martial artist, that's why you need to look in other arts what you need to be complete. The Only way i think you can get confused is taking two or three arts at the same that are traditional styles, heavy into KATA. like Karate, Taekwondo, Kung Fu.. Too much forms to memorize And the other aspect are basically the same.. The Key of Crosstraining is to learn Something that your style is lack off. Example. If you are in Karate, a traditional striking art, taking Judo or jiu jitsu, a grappling art with No forms, is a good choice. I think no matter what styles you choose to combine, taking boxing is a good choice too because hands are our first weapon to use in a street self defense situation, boxing training gives you good stamina, gives you fast hands and good reflex, and also is fun. lol So Yes, train in diferent arts compliment eachother if you covers the aspects in which your first style is weak.

Oh well karateka, I don't know which kata you do better.. pick the one you are already good at and train until you perform it perfectly.

Last Sunday I was watching on ESPN 2 the 9th Anual Shidokan championship. I never saw a Shidokan before, and let me tell you it was great. Very demanding sport to compete in 9 rounds divided this way Rounds 1-3 of Bareknucle Karate Rounds 4-6 of Thai kickboxing Rounds 7-9 of Submission Fighting/Grappling Never before i saw a so demanding fighting combat sport. And of course a TV martial Arts channel IS a great idea. Wellcome Jakmak52
