Fists of Legend, Drunken Master 2, Bloodsport (if you like Van Dame) Once upon a time in China 1 & 2 Anything starred by Jackie Chan, Samo Hung and Yuen Biao, Prodigal Son The Young Master, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, The Victim (haven't see it yet, but i've heard is one of the best kung fu movies of all time) Be sure to get some porn too. lol

How is "The Tuxedo"?
Karateka_latino replied to koreantiger81's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I've heard that Jackie is using "wire-fu" in this movie... I haven't see it but that news is a little disapointing since one of the things i enjoy the most of his film are his crazy stunts without the help of wires -
Since you do Shorin ryu karate an okinawan based style.. your body type wouldn't be a problem..
-
Go to the 3, take one lesson in each and go with the one you enjoy the most.. but if i have to choose one of those. I'd say, Full contact kickboxing. Actually i feel that no matter what style you choose, we all should take some full contact kickboxing lessons. "the only way to learn how to swim is get inside the water"

I'm totally agree with Bon... wristlocks aren't easy to do right it takes years to make them work against a resisting oponent. Hit the vital points or soft part of the body is better..
-
I wouldn't like to fight a Crazy person who doesn't have anything to lose... those people will bite your ears off without thinking twice.. lol And if that person is trained in Muay Thai.... that would make it just worse.. lol

I may sound extreme, but in order to face several people, and you don't have the option of go away, Sorry but i think you must cripple them, you can't fool around trying to "box" 3 people that are trying the Hurt you. try to keep fresh all the techniques you learned about knee kicking, ball kicking, bone breaking, etc.. because you'll have to use them. and as soon as you can, run away from there. that's always an option. Don't play macho.

Grappling doesn't always take place on the ground. You can choke, break an arm, or dislocate a shoulder, break fingers, etc.. on your standing position. That kind of grappling IS effective for street fighting. Grappling works because they do a lot of resisting oponent sparring , they work against diferent body types, and the way they train is exactly the same way the fight. Not punching and kicking to the air, three step sparring or Kata.

Mixing.
Karateka_latino replied to superleeds's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Well, if i take for example.. Shotokan.. then i add Judo and boxing But still call my style "karate" and do kihon and Kata and all the other stuff.. that means my Karate is well rounded... that i accept. But, most of the Arts were created loong time ago and they split and specialzed in diferent things... i mean, you won't say a person who want to learn grappling " you can take Karate and someday you'll learn some grappling techniques" ... Good, but what if i get into a street confrotation and i need the grappling NOW..??? what will i do if in the 3 plus years of Karate i've not yet being taugh the grappling i need now?.. Most traditional arts train in Non and semi contact.. they aren't prepared to hit and get hit... you can know all the techniques on the world but if you aren't used to be Hit, you'll get scared when you absorb some good shots and you wouldn't know what to do. That's why i feel Boxing is so important to learn no matter what style you do... you get two things, Better conditioning and the reality of what is being hit and hit back, two things you'll need in self defense. and its not something you need to stay 10 years to learn. -

Karateka_latino replied to superleeds's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Mixing?? maybe a grappling Specialized art with a Striking art works.. I personally think that no matter how long you study a single Art. Its NOT complete.. one source CAN'T have all the answers. If a person feels happy doing one thing without mixing, okay. but i feel if you can at least do two arts (a striking art and a grappling art) you'll be more rounded. I have watched some grappling in Karate Katas, but that grappling isn't specialized and as good as the one you'll find i Judo... Judo have atemi (striking) but that isn't as good as Karate strikes. -
Hello, I saw the video of the Oyama v the Bull in a kyokushin karate web page, He didn't stand up in front of a Bull and killed when the bull was comming to Gore. The Bull was tied on a post and he hold it horn and choped off. I've heard there is a little trick in which you can find the soft part of the Horn and you can choped it. I've See kyokushin guys sparring. They just train hard and hit harder in sparring...It's indeed a tough style to train in. But i guess you people don't want to get All hurt everytime you spar. right? lol I still have the look the other class. Intructor told me he had another group in which the train is softer, the class i watch it was the School Karate Team class. Maybe thats why it was sooo tough. lol

Really a move?
Karateka_latino replied to RedLynx's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hmm i don't like too much the idea of "pinch neck" to knock someone unconcious. I'd better use a "lion Kill" Choke for that. lol -
Wow, that's a Lot of Katas.

Hi! All the advices here are Great, but... Why can't you talk with your sensei about your problem? you come here instead of talking with him. A good sensei answer questions and help students with there problems. My feeling is that you should talk with your sensei. He definitive knows you better than any of us. He may know how to help you. Give him a try.
