  1. Keylock and Ankle locks are the ones i like the most.
  2. I respect the Gracies, but i don't like the fact they don't never say they were defeated. Renzo Gracies is the only who accept when he lose, no Excuses. "got my butt kicked, i'll be better prepared for the next one" period. that is a good attitude. When other Gracies lose Ohhhh, too much weight advantage, the time limits, referee bad calls, no enough time to train for the fight, etc, etc, etc... and a world of excuses. 4. I don't know if this was posted here before but here its anyway. Royce Gracie lose to Judo Expert Yoshida in a Pride event in Japan by GI Choke. Now, of course, there IS controversy as usual. Some says that Royce DID tap, the Gracie Corner say he DIDN'T tap and the referee stopped because Gracie was in a bad position. TV camaras didn't clearly shoot any taping by Royce. It says that there will be a Rematch and im not sure if its Oficial, but seems that Pride organization is going to change the result to a NO Contest.
  5. Hey, have you ever saw a documentary called "Jackie Chan: My Stunts"??? that was awesome.. the explained how he decided to reduce the number of attackes from his old chinese movies .. from 20 to around 5 and makes those 5 attack at the same time so he could create a more realistic like fight scene. Also show how he changed the old traditional weapon to "prop" fighting using whatever; mops, chair, etc... He look for beautifull fights, not realistic fights but he tries to give a taste of reality at least.
  6. I don't know if we saw the same picture. But to me Wesley Snipes is one of the few actors in Hollywood that CAN do martial arts for real. He's a high degree BB in shotokan Karate and he also trained in Capoeira and some other things. As far as the movie goes. the movie was good in action. Less plot and too much FX, but well, it seems that's what are we going to get from Hollywood from now on.
  7. 12 styles is still TOO much.. which are the names of 12 styles are you training at moment?
  8. ha,ha,ha, Well, if I ever go to a Dojo who have a sexy woman as intructor. Then i'll just have to hold myself because i tend to avoid that. I've been friends with some teachers on School but nothing far from that. Now, if she see working out in the class and start to develop a crush on me...... Nah, i won't do anything, my girlfriend would KILL me if i do. lol
  9. Hello, Look we are working on a eclectic style here too. But the diference is that our style was blend it by a 20+ instructor not by ourselfs. My instructor has trained in several styles and now he create a system of his own. Its not that we are picking random techniques from other styles. It took years of reserch and training to get at this level, everything on the program have a meaning, not ramdom techniques. I just wanted to say a couple of things. If you are trying to learn on your own, then try to not take sooooo many diferent things from all diferent styles. Remember each style have a techniques that works only to persons that train in that style and cant be performed just like that. Kickboxing is easier to learn than any other striking martial art. Also, don't try to learn complicated techniques surch as spinning, jumping, flying kicks!!! again, focus on practical things, front kick, stomp, kicks to the knee, etc... remember, its better to know how to throw one kick in 20 diferent ways than know 20 kicks that you only know how to throw it one way. Go to a DOJO. Even if you aren't interest on get formal training you may want at least someone who knows martials arts to check your techniques make sure you are doing them at least ok. If you don't want to join a dojo, then take seminars, it works too. There are little things you can learn from videos and books as well. they are not going to replace a qualifed instructor but its better than nothing. You won't Learn an ART from books and videos, you may just going to pick some techniques here and there. Just be sure to train all in a very basic level, don't try advance techniques that may only hurt yourself. Remember, there is a big diference between a mixed martial artist and a messed up martial artist. And... DON'T think you are ready to fight on street with that kind of training. I understand you are doing it for Fun with your friends, but you should go first to a Dojo and train in whatever style you are interest. Streets aren't a game, its VERY dangerous Territory , can cost your life if you aren't sure what you are doing. Keep having fun on your training and when you have time, look for qualifed instruction. Hope this helps.
  10. Oh BJJ Is a very strong Art candidate to be a Big McDojo Franchaise anytime soon. In some Masters minds, there's a point that the Art doesn't care anymore, is how they can make more money out of them. Sadly. its happening everywhere.
  11. Rorion Gracie has bashed other Arts... just take any of the Inside Kung fu magazines in which Rorion used to have a monthly space and you'll see how he bash wish pasion other Arts as inefective, non pratical, etc.. etc... I think he do that mostly for Marketing...
  12. I Personally think that All Arts were created to fight One on one. One v the World it depend mostly on the person and not the art he's training in. I've seeing Karate experts defeated by ONE street fighter. and i've seen One guy with NO martial Arts Knowlege taking on 2 big guys. Besides.. what are the chances you to really be able to Defeat 3 or 4 persons who fight you with all at the same time?? lets be honest about it. In those cases all you can do is use all your skill to open spaces to Run away. I don't think you want to stay trading Blows with 3 persons. Remember its your 2 legs and 2 arms V. 6 legs and 6 arms. That's not too realistic. I've seen that BJJ do have standing Chokes, Armlocks, I think that's the key if you are attacked by more than one person. You don't exchange blows with them looking for a knockout, you better try to cripple Them. just my 2 cents.
  13. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu its a Great Art to learn, in my view, its by far the best ground fighting style. I judge by what i saw, and BJJ wins against other grappling styles. Maybe it for the fact that they have been fighting other style for long time and they already know what works and what doesn't work. Other Wrestling styles need muscle to perform the techniques, in BJJ , they MAKE you do apply the techniques with your brain, not your muscle, that is what makes BJJ diferent from the other Styles of wrestling. I think that the real Art of BJJ isn't just the techniques, but Perform them while you roll. Anyone can learn the techniques easily, but performing them in combat is a diferent story lol BJJ saying is that the most effective way to beat a bigger person, is to taking it Down!!! Sounds reasonable, you don't want to trade blows with a big 250 pounds guy. lol Its also good as a sport because allows you to train Hard without having to risk to contant injury. You can roll without having to worry about "black eyes" or bruises, etc..lol
  14. Bah, Aikido is a waste of time!!!! not worth learning Im joking, lol Now really, i think its a beatifull Art to learn. can be practiced by anyone from child, to woman, to old and young. Im considering taking Aikido at some point of my life.
  15. Kensai, im not looking for a heated debate, Im looking for a intelligent debate. not dirty words, not mother cursing. This isnt' that kind of message board. Im here to Learn, so TEACh me about your style and why you think modern styles aren't good. if you don't want to make it in public PM me , friend. I wish we could discuss this a little more. For the Records.. I DONT, i repeat, I DONT HATE TRADITONAL ARTS. Oh just one more think, about the O'Sensei... please, friend, give me a break.. my native language is Spanish im still learning English, lol
  16. Oh i was about the start a new topic about it!!!!! Im agree with you. Girls don't usually train in MMA, NHB, Muay Thai, Eclectic Arts of anything like that. On the other hand, in Arts like Karate, TKD, Kung Fu , Aikido we can find beautifull, intelligent girls. Once i was watching a class at the Hapkido Academy, and i saw a beatifull Model, very popular here in Panama, that was training there. I asked one of my friend if she comes to train here all that time, and he say "sure, she's always here and sometimes she brings her friends" lol I almost Join to that dojang that very same night. lol Karate, TKD, etc.. classes are full of College or working girls that just want to relax and have a good workout some self defense,etc.. but they arent interest in competition or NHB. To Kensai, Aikido started as a "collection of moves" too, Aikijujitsu, Sumo, Ju jitsu, iaido, etc.... O'Sensei trained in Several Arts before come up with his Aikido, so take in consideration before you critize the modern martial arts that will be the traditional Arts of the Future,
  17. I did both. Taekwondo came from the blend of taekyon and Shotokan. General Choi was a 2 degree bb in Shotokan. So obviously they share similar techniques. Now, its not easy to switch from on to the other. At least, to me, it wasn't all that easy. They have the same basic techniques, but principles change. Shotokan have a diferent hip twist, the stances are wide and favor the hand techniques. TKD have upright stances, favor kick work, and the hip rotation is oposite to Shotokan. just my 2cents.
  18. I weight 175 pound and I haven't bench since last year. I went to the bench and guess what.. i can bench 90 pounds!!!! I better start to go the weight room more often from now. lol its so embarrasing lol
  19. I think that if the two persons are in the martial arts because you really like it.. Then both will understand and will try to be serious during you class. If you have to spar with her, no problem, do it. Then after the class apologize for hitting so hard and offer her a full body massage lol
  20. Xpoison FrEex i have a situation for you. One girl joins to your Dojo. Nice girl, beautifull as if God make her just for YOU. She likes you, is single you are single too , Her parents don't have any problem with her dating. She's on the right age. and again She LIkes YOU Can you honestly say you woulnd't TAke her on a date because "its bad for the school"?? Come on lol
  21. I insist. You don't have control of your heart and with who you are going to fall in love with. You just love a person or you don't. If we could choose who to fall in love with, there wouldnt be ANY problems on the relationship. I don't see a problem in dating someone you met on the Dojo. Why not?
  22. With hard work, you can make any art work for any body type. But, its true that certain Arts works better for certain bodytypes. Korean Arts, have a lot of kicking so person with long limbs and good flexbility are good on them. Girls use to be Great on TKD. Sourthen Kung Fu and Shotokan karate, better for the stocky Small people. Judo works fine for people with low center of gravity becuase the are hard to take down. etc.. Physically Strong people have kyokushin karate, Muay Thai, Shidokan Karate, etc. But as i say, isn't a Rule, you can train hard and be good in any Art.
  23. He wouldn't be a Legend or an icon. He would make more pictures during the 70's and maybe the 80's but i doubt he'll would be still working on films today. He would Still be training Martial arts and keep his personal evolution as a Martial artist.
  24. Hello, I feel that, if Patrick decided to open this forum its because many people like to compare Art v. Art. Now, i have read from some of our friends that they don't like the whole Art. v Art topics because "its not the style, its the man" . Yes that's true, but Art V Art forums is good because we can clear many misconceptions we had about other arts. I may have a picture of certain Art and i give an opinion and then a student of that art comes and clear me things that i didn't knew. I've learned a lot on this topics. I feel people should be a little more daring and open minded and join into the conversation. No problem. Since i joined here, i always feel a very mature and friendly "ki" . There's no reason to fight or to yell at eachother, and there's so much to learn about other arts, and hey, its FUN. lol Come on people, don't make a big deal about it and take part of the conversation and defend your Art
  25. Black belt is the end of the basic training and the start on the way of perfection. Like entering on the maturity of the martial arts. Its an End and a New beggining
