  1. If you have the time, energy and money and can go there without any other problems. Go ahead, there's nothing wrong with crosstrain.
  2. well, many of you say its more a movie for rent.... but I have to honor the tradition and I'll watch Jackie's movies on theater. Just this time, I'll go on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, those days Movie theater sell tickets half price. lol
  3. It was a funny Movie.. A combo of Kung Fu, Soccer, Dragon Ball Z, And special effects. lol
  4. I went to my first class very happy. After watching "kung Fu theater" i was thinking they'll tech me to kick like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. Since my first class was around the time of the Ninja Mania, I almost bought a Black Ninja gi instead of a karate Gi. lol
  5. Congratulations 360roundhouse!!!! I like surprises too.. lol and recieving grading is very good. lol Do you still train Taekwondo or you gave up to focus on grappling only? Royler is Great, one of the best lightweights in the world of competition for sure. maybe the best of the Gracies today
  6. OH how could i forget... My favorite legend... Wong Fei Hong.
  7. Now seriously.. either Bruce Lee, Helio Gracie, Jigoro Kano, Funakoshi, Ueshiba, They were all inovators and we have to be thankfull for all the things they did for martial arts.
  8. I'm making my own legend so I'll chose myself. lol
  9. Hapkido can be combative depending on how the master teachs you.. same goes for the rest of the martial arts.
  10. small correction.. Unless you ARE planning a carreer in show business, then stick with the effective techniques. sometimes i type so fast that i don't watch what im writing.
  11. Unless you aren't planning a carreer in the show business, then stick what its effective.
  12. the only person who can really say what you need is yourself.... if you like where you are, stay there, when you start to feel you need something else, then move on.
  13. Oh that could be the coolest thing.. You are with that thing on your head while sparring and you can watch frame by frame what happend to you after you get caught with that high roundhouse kick or that vicious right Cross.. You can watch the roof and the faces of your sensei and classmates trying to bring you from the other side..and see how everyone cares about you. lol Now serious, i think it could be interesting. but i'll be afraid someone broke it with a strikes. Also, can be unconfortable to wear while you spar.
  14. I couldn't see the video but the way you talk about it, means that they shotokan guy did the same mistake everybody do when they fight against BJJ, Go and try to out-grappler a grappler specialist. When are they going to understand they can't do it? If you watch first UFC's you'll see the same thing.
  15. Oh that's what i was going to say... Use your front leg kicks to set up and then, BOOM hit with a powerfull back leg kick... do combo kicks.. like set up with a side kick and hit with a back leg roundhouse. Set up with a front kick and then back leg front kick. set up with a roundhouse kick and then, jump spinning back kick... Be creative with your combos. the more you train, you'll develop the proper distance and timing to do those kicks.
  16. Look on BJJ & Grappling Web pages. They always have info about up comming tournaments. Then get the money and go where the tournament is going to be.
  17. I sometimes buy.. Inside Kung Fu, Taekwondo times, and also Grappling magazine.
  18. I'm not an Aikido stylist but i have talked and trained with aikido stylist and i'll try to give you my personal opinion based on your questions.. Yes, Aikido will take a long while to be truly effective for self defense, also will depend on which club you join. Some School are more toward "ki" development and other to Self defense. Aikido schools from the Yoshinkan organization tend to be more self defense oriented. I don't know how long will take to be effective, i guess that depends on how much you train and how wise is the teacher, but i can safely say that it may take more than 5 years to be Trully effective Still, that's just my opinion, can be less can be more. If you want quick self defense techniques, go and find something else.. if you are willing to devote several Years to train and learn the complete Art, you can give Aikido a shot. Untouchable masters?? who knows?? nowbody is invincible, nowbody. and i advice you to don't live up to be an invincible martial artist because that's not likely to happend. Train realistic and set realistic goals for yourself. Aikido is a beautifull style, looks cool, teachs you many good things not just for self defense but for living a good healty life, Just keep it realistic and train hard. Hope this help a little.
  19. Learn quick footwork so you can move inside/outsideside to side, really fast. Remember always try to outsmart your oponent, He may be bigger than you but you should try to be more smart than he's. Try to make that person fight the way you want to, don't play his game or you'll get kicked again.
  20. To me, a natural fighter is someone who loves to fight, loves competition, don't back up to anyone. And that isn't only work for martial artist or combat sport people, but also other profesions, like lawyers, doctors, bussiness, etc... You need a High fighting and competitive spirit. And of course, natural physical gifts surch as stamina, muscle, reflexes, superior inteligence, etc...
  21. Bon, Thanks for your post, very informative. Thai, all you say is mostly right , but you forgot one Thing, The Gold Rule, "AVOID GET INTO STREET FIGHTS IN THE FIRST PLACE" That should be in the top of your list, my friend. It doesn't matter if you feel you can deal with it, even if its a one on one situation, there's not excuse to get into a fights. Thanks.
  22. Vicious, Yes, practice make perfect.... but my point is, if you learn by yourself without any instructors to actually see what you are doing and correcting you.. How can you really know you are doing it right?, i mean, you can practice it a tousand of times and still be wrong. You can even find a way to make it work, but you'll still miss a lot of details to do that techniques as you are supposed to. All you'll have is a perfect "wrong" technique.
  23. I'm an actor also... that's why i care a lot when im doing stand up, kick/punch sparring.
  24. My combo it is simple: Do Boxing/muay thai and Wrestling... Combat sports against resisting oponents and for conditioning and tough the body. Any martial arts of your choice ( karate, Kung fu, Hapkido, TKD, Aikido, Tang soo do, etc..) and BJJ for ground fighting. That combo will keep you busy for the rest of your life.
  25. That person needs to prove what he/she learned in front of a qualifed serious intructors. I doubt you can teach yourself a Martial Art using just videos and books. They can help if you have a base style. but if you haven't, you may learn things incorrectly. You CAN learn many things from books and videos but i don't feel that's enough to consider yourself a black belt or even an intermediate green belt. You need to be carefull... I can pick up a book and read it again and again, memorized from A to Z and practice all the techniques but the book won't tell you what you are doing wrong or what you need to improve, For that you need a teacher. I think that's an option Only if you don't have any instructor from a particular style in your City. In that particular case, i advise to find a school of a Style that resamble the one you want to learn and get info about the style you like to. Ex. you want to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu but there isn't a school in your area, then you can pick Judo which is more spread and watch BJJ videos and books, and also you can wait for a seminar about it and join and learn. Hope this help a little.
