Elbow pads?
Vito replied to xnfx's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting

guard position
Vito replied to Vito's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
isnt a mule kick when you kick behind you? in the guard your opponent is in front of you, and youre on your back. -
BJJ Questions
Vito replied to Username's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
at my particluar bjj place, we do striking some. (not like a mt class, but we do learn it. we also have the atmosphere where lots of guys do striking and whatnot, so you can get together with them and learn stuff. its nice and informal, no bowing, no artificial ancient oriental crap... but the respect is there, more than in the other places i think.) we also do takedowns, not as often as ground work because thats what bjj focuses on, but theyre taught. you tap out before you get hurt, and you udnerstand not to go wild nutty * crazy on one another. get a cup. you might eventually want knee pads or a mouth piece... athletic tape is always nice to have on hand. i actually often dont use a gi, just under armour or something like that. (rash guard). rankings go white, blue, purple, brown, black. they are very far apart, and we dont have youth rankings, theres a kids class once a week, however that works... and the regular classes are for adults 16+. -
best book for grappling

brazilian jiu jitsu theory and technique by renzo and royler gracie is a nice one. dont think you can learn anything without an instructor though. cause you cant. -
what maybe youre thinking of is the martial artist (from kung fu to wushu to tkd and karate where the little kids get camaflauge to black belts before they can drive) to the fighters (the wrestlers, boxers, bjj and mt guys).

Selecting a Second art
Vito replied to pericles's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
practical/traditional? isnt that an oxymoron? -
with pictures like that, they cant possibly teach how to fight.

nothin wrong with a beer every now and then. and, if you must, shootin some liquor and gettin drunk on occasion (too vague a term, i know) isnt so bad. just dont have a pro fight within six months of doing so. only live once afterall, so have fun but dont be an idiot.

i dont think jesus said when in rome do as the romans do. at least not in that way, because im pretty sure he was against massive orgies. (what a loser!) anyway, i say no! christians need to spend their time praying, protesting stemcell research so my disease cant be cured, persecuting homosexuals, and riding bicycles around with little nametags on. with all that plus memorizing the bible, who has time to learn how to fight?
-
why would you go and talk to him? his friends werent around then, but im sure he hasnt cut all ties with them. also, where i come from, wrestlingkaratewhatever, we value intelligence. an intelligent person realizes that names and verbal abuse is nothing, and that taking on five guys alone is idiotic.

haha, yea im like fireka. i thought you meant orgies too. sigh... see what happens when i go for more than a week?

Tactics against a Boxer
Vito replied to G Money Slick's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
treebranch beat me to it. i dont know if this is allowed in the rules you were sparring with.. but id take him to the ground, or atleast get him in a clinch to control him, ideally take his back. if youre good and fast, all you have to do is see one punch coming and you can take the guy and choke him out. (not always but you know.) -
i understand that knife fighting uses knives a lot.

you are talking about very awesome weapons but...
Vito replied to dancin_ash's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
i think people learn them because theyre fun. also, as ive said several times in some forum or another... im my inside coat pocket i can fit my fullsize nunchucks... so if i found myself in a situation where i needed to defend myself, they just might come in handy. you know, if i dont want to shoot them or something. and just for the record, while ive nailed my shin or knees a few times (never at full speed though, nowhere near infact) ive never smacked my own head. maybe youre not practicing right. -
allright buddy, heres the thing- we are not qualified to help someone in your extreme condition. first of all, we dont know you personally, in real life. second, we dont have MD's. i know for a fact that you havent gone to see any professionals about this problem, because if you had you wouldnt be posting what you just did. no joking or exagerating- GO SEE A PROFESSIONAL. we cannot solve this problem for you. understand?

well, first of all, give up on ever throwing an effective kick. with that in mind, do things like running and long practice sessions on the bag. the more you do it the better youll get.

Backyard Boxing a Martial Art?
Vito replied to Kicks's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
music was appropriate.... anyone else notice that kid at the end who threw his helmet off didnt have a mouthpiece? i kinda wanna get into it with those guys and kick their *. nothing like a good ego stroke. -
i think thats just another symptom of these ridiculous belt systems of learning that we have today in so many places. even the most traditional martial arts, back in the day, didt have all these colors, and stripes for the colors, and other nonsense.

apparently a lot of people dont train right.
-
as strong as bruce lee was- bigger guys with bigger muscles are stronger. thats just how it works. his technique was stronger though, and he was incredibly fast.
