guard position
Vito replied to Vito's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
interesting.... i think on the street id want to get out of the guard right away no matter how good i was at it, unless me opponent gave me an opportunity to instantly end it (i.e. break his arm) because dominant as it is, on your back, and on the ground period is dangerous on the street. -
how do you bring down someone bigger than yourself?
Vito replied to Ryan gry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
no, its pretty difficult to kill someone by punching their throat. -
dips between two chairs. dips are some of the best upperbody building exercises. also, if you want to hit your legs, squats without weights wont do much. if you run a lot, especially up hills and things like that, youll build them up real nice.

Choking someone out
Vito replied to PhilM1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
not bad, depending on the situation id want to either break something (like an arm, rib, ankle) or hit him in the throat to disrupt his breathing ability (theyll live, but wont be able to come after me.) nose is good too though, but id do it twice. -
BJJ and Sambo

brazilian jiujitsu? look it or the gracie's up on the internet. suuurely youve heard of it. -
luckys right in that jkd is not a martial art as bruce lee designed it. however, these days, there are martial arts instructors who teach 'jeet kun do.' any of those however, wouldnt really be chinese. 47martialman's also right- if you practice your martial art to the best of YOUR abilities to become the best fighter you can be, youre practicing the same philosophy of jeetkundo as bruce lee intended. and yea, i too am weary of that bandwagon.

Fight Club
Vito replied to TylerDurden's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
yeah... this is by far the worste idea ive ever heard of in this forum- and ive come across some dumb *. id bet a whole lot that youll be sorry you did this when its over. -
personally, i have no intention of doing anything spinning in any real fights. too risky, and one of my things is minimizing the risks as much as possible (which is why i wont kick all that high if at all.) however, i understand the argument because of all spinning manuevers i cant think of a safer one. even a spinning elbow puts you at a different and worse angle, and you have to be closer to hit with that one. still though, id rather just clock the guy.

i agree, great link. i really like rossboxing and recommend it to anyone involved in punching. -
youre at a disadvantage allright, but technique can overcome size. think this way- youre at a disadvantage in any confrontation on the street too... muggers wont wait until one of them is your size. PS you sound hot, how old are you?

Why and How??
Vito replied to BJJShotoshe's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
someone once said to me: youre always as good as your last belt. -
hey, im curious what the fighters have to say about this. the guard position is definitely a great place to be when grappling- but say youre one on one with some punk in an alley and you wind up in the guard position. okay, no one else around so youre fine being there for a bit- but what about your nuts? you can defend against knockout punches all you want, as well as you want, but how would you guys defend that ever-so-precious area? i know its the first place id go for if someone had me in guard and it was the real thing.

hm, just for the record, yea guns are western. chinese had the powder, but the westerners invented the actual gun. that other quote though, wow, yea... some people are just flamingly stupid. there are so many things wrong with it i cant even pick it apart. hey, give us the link to where you picked that up from so we can all call him an idiot where he posted.

Your Best Sparing Combos
Vito replied to CPU's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
the ol 1-2 and a roundhouse is the most basic, yet maybe most effective combo in muay thai. oh, what the hell is a gold belt? -
Tricks for quickly disabling an opponent.
Vito replied to WhiteDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
the real trick is to train enough to be a much better fighter than the guy whos trying to hurt you. its almost all instinct in a streetfight anyway. -
milk, crystal light, mineral water if you like that stuff, juice, hell even diet soda wont kill you.

who the hell planted that seed in your head?

jujitsu is good, so is just a regular ol boxing gym- that will get you into shape, too. -
Just a fun hypothetical question
Vito replied to Shorin Ryuu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
belts these days are mostly just tools for more money. wow look how many ive gone through, and look how many belt tests ive payed for... etc etc. if there were just a few that were far inbetween (like years worth) such as bjj's system id say its cool- but usually its just a waste of time. also, in the old days, from what i understand you werent even considered a STUDENT until you earned your black belt. these days you can usually teach with one. maybe this is why those chinese guys used to refuse to teach to us whitey americans. (and just for the record, muay thai and boxing and such styles dont have belts, and it doesnt seem to hurt them at all.) -
bodybuilding effect your martial arts skills????
Vito replied to mostsolid's topic in Health and Fitness
sapp i wont argue about, but most mma guys are not THAT big- 200,220 lbs. and its certainly possible for some genetically gifted guys to hit 250, 275 with proper weight training, diet, and suppliments (legal ones!)
