  1. no such thing as that dim mak crap you hear about in the movies. all rational people know this.
  2. what the hell does that even mean?
  3. hahaha, cerebrin has a good answer. dreams are your brain activity during night, which isnt all that special really. chemical and electrical signals running around, doing what they do... usually influenced by recent memories and crap like that... telekenisis (sp?), the mind dying and our bodies dying because of that, and all that crap that sounds good in movies... not real. hope that bursts your bubble.
  4. what about ring figthing? do you guys think that counts? i think it helps more than anything except real fights maybe.
  5. dont think of it as failing your test. its really more like you didnt pass it. keep at it, you will later, and in a year it wont be a big deal. and look on the bright side- at least you have a good enough teacher to fail you, and two years later, with as much dedication as you have, and youre still not a blackbelt- it must be a REAL school that teaches REAL fighting, and youre REALLY learning. thats what matters.
  6. random question for people- ever notice that a lot of martial artists who are multiple rank blackbelts (have been doing it for quite a while) have huge flagrant mullets? i began to notice this when the leader of some shaolin kung fu organization, a chinese guy, had a gigantic mullet. next thing i know im looking around at kenpo guys, karate guys, and they all have mullets. its like they cut themselves off from society when they started training (back in the 80's) and were never told that mullets arent trendy anymore. anyone else ever notice this, or am i just crazy?
  7. crazy people... still though, can/would they stop you if you pay for it yourself?
  8. just because a place can be described as one of those things (acting patriotic, having a cardio kickbox class, etc) doesnt NECESSARILY mean its a mcdojo- i have to day, having seen a lot of mcdojos here and there... they are definitely red flags.
  9. boxing itself is a martial art, and its really one of the best to do if youre worried about self defense (which is the cliche term for street fighting, really.) id take it over karate any day.
  10. if you want something to do in one spot, that actually burns more calories than jogging- jump rope. except for maybe bagwork and serious jogging (like running really fast, i mean) it burns the most calories out of any exercise i can think of.
  11. 4'11''? your girl sounds hot.
  12. just bug the crap out of them to let you back in. you may have to get a job or something and pay for it yourself- maybe showing that kind of responsibility will persuede them? if not, maybe you can lie and say koreans originally made up muay thai and jiujitsu and that the other people stole it....
  13. tips for training... whenever you do punching on your heavy bag, do it like a boxer. surely you know how to punch by now, so focus on where your feet are, how they are positioned, etc. are you pushing into a cross with your hind foot, are you twisting properly when you hook, are you telegraphing your jab... etc.
  14. "age and treachery will overcome youth and energy" umm.. that quote means that while youre young and full of energy now, youll eventually get old and your body will betray you.
  15. could be the lighting and all that *, but it looks like number one is more muscular. the way to tell though, is how much you can lift, how much you weight, and where your body fat % is (though that last one doesnt seem to matter for you.) seriously though, put some pants on next time- and make sure we can tell theyre on. ew.
  16. you know- while being small doesnt keep you from becomming a good fighter.. being bigger certainly helps. have you thought about weight training?
  17. first, real quick comment- all mas rely on speed, and if you work for it youll gain speed. anyway, you know what- your ideals are exactly like mine as far as training are concerned. aef seems to have it down, mmas are really the way to go for that- boxing/kickboxing and wrestling/BJJ or something similar. oh, while not terribly practical, nunchuks can really mess a guy up... and mine happen to fit in my inside coat pocket. just food for thought....
  18. i never really got into that. for me, circular is sidestepping opponents, hooks, uppercuts, and roundhouse kicks. linear is charging, retreating, pushkicks, jabs and crosses. and i guess elbows. probably not what you guys were talking about, but hey- a chance to poke fun at those old ma's and promote my stuff... how can i resist.
  19. oh i forgot, though i doubt youll be into it, but wrestling (greco) is an excellent self defense thing. (notice that im avoiding more innuendos- its taking all my strength to do so you know.)
  20. mma is the way to go. if you cant find somethign that teaches "mma" just learn a striking such as boxing, kickboxing, or something of that nature... and a grappling such as bjj, wrestling, judo, or something of that nature.
  21. yea... learning is great- but a black belt doesnt necessarily mean anything. (little advice- if your school is big on the whole belt thing, you probably wont be learning much.) belts are unimportant next to the skills youre gaining as an asskicker. for self defense.
  22. haha, nice try... but both spelled and spelt are acceptable. (spelled is the more commonly used.)
  23. dont comment on cheerleader? why not? youre probably hot- i think we should go out. call me. anyway, if youre looking for flashy acrobatic moves, wushu, capoera, even tkd would be your thing. however, if youre looking for self defense- anything effective will not be flashy at all. real life self defense is nothing like the movies honey, im sorry. good self defense arts are BJJ, judo, boxing/kickboxing (not the cardio kind), and i hear krav maga is quite good though i wouldnt know from my own experience. anyway, flashy or self defense, its either one or the other- or both, but that means youll have to train in two different styles at the same time.
  24. boxers always have shoes on- and they all train with weights (a good way to build up your hips quads and butt by the way.)
  25. what? a roundhouse to the side of the knee can be devistating if you hit it hard enough- which isnt THAT hard really.
