  1. i think what youre talking about as kicking through the target. you have to really pivot, and really need good balance and stability when you throw a kick like that.
  2. yea. think bob sapp. now that guys just too damn big.. but there are 275lbers in k1 who are certainly not slow or inflexible.
  3. i jammed a pinky once on a bball... it wasnt all that bad, swolen for a day or two... and now its kind of bigger. not swolen, nothing wrong with it at all- just a tiny bit bigger. and hey, mostsolid- calm down boy hes just joking.
  4. wow, lucky put it really well, but i dont know if anyone can accurately here. ask your instructor or some more advanced students to go over them with you. (and dont forget the pulling the head down into your knee thing- how incredibly effective that can be!)
  5. hahahaha! pasta and noodles... thats the perfect analogy. good job.
  6. thats exactly my point. if someone enters a fight with me, i assure you i wont have started it. and on the street or wherever, if im being physically assaulted, i have every reason to believe that the assailant is trying to maim/hospitalize or even kill me, and to assume anything less would be stupid. i should therefor do everything in my power to prevent that from happening, within reason, FOR SURE. for sure is the important part- people slammed on the ground can get back up and come for more, but someone slammed on the ground who was stomped on to the point where its too painful to get up cant hurt me anymore. hell, even if it is illegal, if i have to im taking my opponent out. PS ive never actually killed anyone, if that makes you feel better.
  7. thats awesome! you could fit multiple heavy bags and even some weights down there. some mats too, for grappling... and an area for sparring if you dont want a whole ring with ropes and all that... an octagon shaped cage... ahem, well thats my fantasy anyway.
  8. definitely- bruce lee (at least during filming of say, enter the dragon) was at an incredibly low and unhealthy level. he actually over trained almost to the point of madness. (he lost something like ten pounds, obviously of muscle mass, during the filming of that movie from his training.) theres noooo way he was at 8. if i had to guess, id say something like 3 or below.
  9. i know that randy coulter claims to have never done any weights; only body weight exercises.
  10. wow, im with lucky on this one. however, i think that in most cases a video alone is entirely useless. taichi however, is probably an exception to that.
  11. muay thai and bjj are two completely different styles of fighting- the most basic two as i consider them: striking and grappling. theyd definitely go well together and i recommend taking them together, but either will suffice if you want to start with just one. (theyll both toughen you up in ways you wouldnt imagine.) as for kali, not a lot of experience with the system, seems good to me (like id know) but the combination of mt and bjj i think beats it. kali isnt all weapons either, it just starts with them.
  12. not unlike sevenstar, i train for offense as well. you ask me, its the best defense. and not unlike ravencroft, i also train to be a tough guy. i dont want to start * or anything, but i want to be that guy- the tough one. dont * with me, baby. yeah.
  13. well, one of two things is happening: either you are learning to fight, just slowly so you dont see the benifits yet. or, youre just not. if i can throw some bias in here, since its a dojang (implying tkd, right?) youre probably not. also, kids and full contact sparring probably isnt a good idea. think about it.
  14. now that i think of it, you might benifit from shadow boxing, so long as you, again, act like your dodging and weaving and all that good stuff.
  15. ive seen accidental knee kicks in k1 fights before. the first time it happens, apparently the ref just gives a verbal warning (from what ive seen). also, the reciever gets as much time as he wants (to a point, im sure) to recover from it.
  16. what i would do if i were you is train both ways (its just more versatility, and if you have to chase someone with two kicks, what better way to do it.) with that, youll probably find you like one more than the other as you progress.
  17. ive seen that combat ki stuff. sure they toughen up their bodies, but if you ask me (and im no expert in this case) its a joke. so you can tense up your neck muscles and breathe out real hard in a fixed stance and take one to the throat. wow. hope that comes up next time you get mugged. anyway, i think we all learned the multiple uses of the one in punch in kill bill vol2. ive been buried alive three times (long story), and its saved me each time. thankyou pai mai!
  18. anything that keeps your oponent from even being able to fight back is how id end any fight i was even remotely at risk in, unless i had the option of running the hell away. in other words, any sort of throw to the ground (so to run away), else anything that knocks him out (power punches for example) or disables him from fighting (broken arm, rib, kicks to the knee, etc). and if you have the opportunity, dont hesitate to stomp on your grounded opponent a few times for good measure.
  19. i dont really see the point in it.
  20. hahahahaha, that was his mistake, and damn i bet he regretted it.
  21. ive heard of places doing it before. its cool so long as its not some kind of year long thing or something ridiculous like that. cancellation fees, all that stuff gyms use to take your money....
  22. crunches and leglifts for the beginner, every day youre not sore. lie on a mat or something if its uncomfortable.
  23. you can go as low as 4 and be okay, but its damn difficult. 6-10 and youre good to go.
  24. well, everyone is different, and everyones training changes as they progress. for instance, i too dislike leg extensions, but have gotten great results from flies in the past. that is why i suggested, and will again just to reiterate, go with someone who does know how and have him show you the roaps for a little while.
