  1. books only help if you have an instructor.
  2. thats not true. you only want your muscles to be so sore... if youre extreemely sore and you havent just started, youre pushing them too hard. be careful not to overdo it when lifting.
  3. sometimes i do... usually i end up doing that bruce lee thing where if your opponent goes backwards you go forwards, and vice versa. sometimes a retreat is a good idea, but side stepping and slipping is a lot better, i think. if you can do it in the circumstances.
  4. true, but on the ground is much different, and a trained bjj dude vs a trained mt dude on the ground is no contest.
  5. denmark has some of the best kickboxing... take advantage of that.
  6. actually ive found grabbing his heel and heading his solar plexus rather easy to pull off in various circumstances.
  7. my favorate was either ken or guile
  8. no, instead grab his heal (or both) and put your head right into his solar plexus or on the inside of his thigh and push him down.
  9. develop the best footwork possible.
  10. i dont think its a strike like punching and such... more like jabbing eyes and chopping throats... things that hurt but dont require a lot of power.
  11. strong lower abs, the ones you get doing leg lifts, sure wont hurt....
  12. dont forget a cup. they have kinds with gel on the sides now, reeeeally good for grappling, and muay thai.
  13. sevenstar has the idea, sometimes i like to expand on that. when im working the bag ill purposely miss so that i can be used to not connecting with every shot. its like shadow boxing and bagwork combined.
  14. most people dont forget they can strike from the mount where i come from. depending on the posistion, usually just really strong hooks or something, not necessarily to the face (throat, neck, kidneys....) keep in mind though that the guard is a dominant position but you cant do much striking from it.
  15. yeah i particularly hate that. it makes it hard to learn if youre with someone like that because its just madness, no technique. on the street you could just deck them and theyd drop, but in class theres nothing to be done.
  16. im thinking sambo, dunno..
  17. you can always sleep with the boss....
  18. they are, but ground fighting is more focused on. a lot of the time, no one gets a throw off, people just fall.
  19. few if any techniques in bjj are so dangerous that you wouldnt want to teach them to people who know how to tap out and not go crazy (allow someone to tap out.)
  20. not necessarily... some of those guys are such incredible grapplers that they force the opponent to play the striking game, because to grapple would mean loss. i dont think theyre primarily strikers so much as they primarily strike.
  21. youd be better off boxing
  22. practicality. philosophy has nothing to do with winning a fight, abilities do.
