  1. I agree with you partially. There is also a place in the inside of the lower leg 3 finger widths up from the ankle joint. The point is know as splen 6 is can be struck or rubbed. When rubbed it causes a numbing sensation followed by extreme pain. When it's struck it causes the ankle to roll and there's no real way to brace for it.If struck hard enough and at the right angle the roll will be so violent the ankle will break. But most likely the ankle will roll causing your attacker to fall and have a sprained ankle. I prefer to kick low you generate more power in a low kick, most times you attacker won't see it coming, and it doesn't disrupt your balance as much. These are my thoughts but I agree with you as well.
  2. My meals the night before depend on if I'm close to the top side of my weight class or not.As for breakfast I skiptill after I weigh in.Then I hit what ever it close to the venue.I have a fast metabolisum so I can eat about 40 minutes bfore competing and not suffer from it.I take lots of bananas and water with me.But I do a routine of protein shakes for serveral weeks before because of my training habits.
  3. Study books think of a game plan for the next time you grapple.I think about it all the time and just talking with someone who knows the art can help you.
  4. You should be proud you stood up for your dojo.Contact your instructor if possible and talk with him about it or contact him as soon as possible after he gets back into town. But I do know that if that had happened in the dojo where I train it would be up to the senior student to take action against those disrespecting our dojo. My instructor has said if any ever comes into our dojo and tries to beat up on his students they will recieve another invation to our dojo to descuss the matter and he will deal with the person as he sees fit.If sensie is present at the time of the incedent he says they will get just a bit more than they are giving from him.He is very old school in some of his ways.I agree 100% with you actions
  5. I love to to compete. My dojo isn't into compotion either but they support anyone who wants to go.We will help them train for it and give advice from our past comp experiance.I do it to see how I do againist people I don't constantly train with. And see were I need to improve.Try to get someone from the club to go with you and atleast watch. They can pick up on things you miss while competing
  6. When you start sparring is up to your instructor. The first time I took karate it was a little over a month after starting before I sparred for the first time and for about 2 months after I only sparred the instructor.
  7. I'm glad someone already set him straight on the Shorin Ryu issue
  8. At the dojo were I train I'm the smallest guy.I've had to come up with techinques that give me the edge over my bigger training partners.I works very well for me.You do what you got to do when you're giving up 30 to 70 pounds.
  9. Another counter to clasped hands.Slide you fore arm upinto the bend of you opponant's arm that yo're trying to bar.Figure 4 your legs over the arm and rotate you fore arm as if picking the arm up to your chest.By the way use both hands attempting this.this is very painful to your opponant if done properly it compresses their forearm.
  10. Yes this so fight events can beheld legally. p.s. thanks to everyone who's signed since my first posting this.
  11. There's always one person at aparty that comes looking for a fight. And lucky you found 3.Sounds like you pretty much done what you're trained to do react with a simple action and tageting without hesitation.Glad to hear your buddy is ok.
  12. I use a neck crank/compression that is setup like a guillitine but I set it across the jaw and crank.People I've caught say they think their jar is going to break the pressure is so great.
  13. Hey guys people from other atates have been signing this thing too.So please help.
  14. I know you taake beatings at certain levels of training like black belt promotion. But if someone has a limitation and can preform a move so what teach them something that they can do or modify it to fit their limitation. Never make someone hurt their self just to train. For every teacher like the one you have mentioned there are 100 good that will repect you abilities.
  15. Stoneheart you are luck to recieve free Kenpo.Your Senei sounds like he just wants to share his knowledge. If he didn't love the martial arts he would not do this for free. My instructor doe not require upper belt to pay for class.I use to work a second job just to pay my dues but when I lost that job and my Sensei found out he will not take money from me for anything except promotions, and equipment he orders for me.But I pay my dues in other ways,I help with the kids class, buy bottled watter to leave at the school for all to use, sometimes when he feels under the weather I make sure the doors are open for the adult classes,I have even went in on non class nights and clean the place up for him. I think if you have a student who come upon financal hard ship and can't pay dues and they're deticated to learning let their dues slide.Alot of people who fall short on money quite martial arts and never go back because most schools are money hungery.
  16. need a better discription on body placement and such
  17. Hey everyone.I don't post on here that often anymore but I'm asking for everyones help.I recently found out that the sport of Mixed Martial arts is illegal in my home state of Tennessee. What I am asking of everyone is to sign an online petition to make mma legal. This is a sport that I and many others love.So please help out buy going to the following link and sign the petition. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/mma/ In closing I want to thank anyone who signs this petition.
  18. Good luck and have the spirit of a warrior never give up no matter how bad it gets.As long as you do your best is what matters.
  19. You know I can't really relate how it benifits othrs sports because I wrestled in high school while taking Shorin Ryu.And I'm now a Kenpo stylist but my wrestling in hs has helped my addapation in grappling arts.
  20. I'm not bothering reading everyone's post on this one.But in many cases the belt has been handed down from instructor to student. My instructor has a belt that is horrably faded and freyed, and he plans on giving it to the first person he promotes to black. This is and old tradition that a sensei gives his black belt to the first person he promotes to blackbelt to pass on his knowledge and spirit. So when my Sensei passes his belt down to one of us it will be the fourth or fifth time it has been handed down.I think it would be a great honor to recieve my Sensei's belt.
  21. I feel that way every time I promote.I don't know what it is nerves i guess. It's human nature to second guess yourself
  22. Kazushi Sakuraba because of the incredibale amount of heart and never say die no matter how bad he's being beaten.
  23. I think that we have about 10 kata that are required. Then we have a 2 mile run lots of self defense, aleast eight rounds of grappling, and eight rounds of sparring. And what ever else Sensie decides we need to show him.
  24. IMO they are both great styles.I firmly believe one should learn both styles because alot of times a fight ends up on the ground.Shotokan is a stand up style for the most part. And jujitsu is ground fighting for the most part.Training in a stand up style and a ground fight fighting system makes you a more complete martial artist.
  25. I think most fighters feel more comfortable on the ground with their grappling skills or ground and pound skills. This is why the fight does down to the ground so quickly. Take Titio vs. Chuck for example: Titto was a ground n pound fighter.Chuck is a stand knock you out kinda guy.Tito tried to stand with Chuck and got ko'd.Tito couldn't get Chuck down where he had the advanage. Also look a Liddell vs. Horn. Horn a great grappler couldn't take Chuck down .When Chuck would knock Horn down he didn't just jump into his guard knowing if he did he would most likely be submitted. If fighting like this you should try to fight your fight and not think you have to follow him to the ground.
