  1. Hope you enjoy your ma experice.Be sure to check out the dojo before joining talk to the instructor, watch a class if they allow(if not run in imo)but if you deide to go there be open minded and train hard
  2. Good to see someone is still taking Judo and not jumping on the BJJ band wagon.Best of luck on your journey in Judo.Train Hard.
  3. Where to start on a dream like this.I would have to say Mr. Kano,Shoshin Nogamine,Gene LeBell,Gokor Chyvechin,Wally Jay and my current sensei
  4. I think for the avrage person only needs a few hours a week. But the dedicaded will train at home and every oportunity they get.For example at the dojo were I train we have classes offered 4 nights a week. And myself and a few others guys I train with travel out of state once a week to another dojo to train 1 night a week. But it is up to the person how much they want to train.I would say you need a min. a couple hours 2 days a week.depends on how good you want to be.
  5. I think the first time I started in the martial arts my grandmother wanted me to try it because I was so competative in wrestling in highschool and it kept me out of trouble during the off season. This time my brother saw I was missing the arts becuase I moved a few years ago and invited me into the dojo were he is currently training. Now if I miss class I feel as I've failed.but honestly I for an unknown reason am and have always been fasinated by the martial arts.
  6. Many thanks to guys for posting this site. It's been 8 long years since I've studied Master Nogomine Shornin Ryu.And my old dojo has since closed now I has a refernce.
  7. I have seen and I have fail one belt test.I for some reason became so nervous when I was called up I when blank I forgot kata and anything else I was supose to know.I was devistaded but my Sensei tested me the following week and told me he was suprized when I froze up the fight time.At the dojo i train at now the tests are totally spur of the moment and my teacher asks us to demonstrate moves as a group then we proform what kata we know then he will anounce at the end of class if we had been promoted. His theroy is to not put one in the spot light to help eleminate the nevers. He also will tell each of us were we need to improve.I like this style of promotion the best. But now days I don't chase the belt like I use too I just want to learn something new.
  8. In the dojo were I rain we have two nights that focus strictly on kata and technque and one or 2 nights that are conditioning and sparring and grappling that way those who do not want to fight do not have too.
  9. I wear a cup when grappling and stand up sparring. One you can set an armbar better with a cup on and most importantly I don't like the the thought of the pain in my groin if hit or pitched.Any one with common sense would.
  10. I have to agree with senseipaul you can never start cross training too early.Keep an open mind in each class and don't try to incorperate things in from the other classes until you advance some.I train in Kenpo and MMa and have had no problems keeping my studies separate.
  11. I aslo recently started competing again but I compete in what ever tourny is closest to home organization really doesn't matter to me I'll jin for one tourney if needs be
  12. One my first 3 tat I used A&D as instructed and only had one small scabbed spot on each but seemed to take forever to heal.On my last I used Tattoo Goo an never scabbed at all and the tat healed super quick and looks better than any of my others
  13. Kyle I too have been inked a few times but this one is special to me.Everyone is wanting me to get this tat done on my back but not alot of people get their stomachs tatted.I have this thing about getting painful tats such as the next one I have planned after my stomach is the soft inside of the arm.I guess I'm a gluton for pain.but thanks for sharing your opinion with me
