  1. Karo has been forced to withdraw from tomorrow nights UFC due to a late back injury. There will be no replacement since the fights are so close. The Brown Kim fight will moved to the main card. I'm posting this for those who are making last minute picks in the fantasy game on here.
  2. I did not see this but I did read somethings on this bout. Basically if I remember right Shamrock had been handled fairlyeasily for a round and couldn't stop the takedown nor could he get up. I think Shamrock basically threw the knee hoping to get a stand up and a warning but the ref chose a diffrent path for him. Frank's a seasoned fighter and used a weak excuse for what he did. He knew the rules going in, he's an intelligent fighter and he knew what he was doing when he done it.
  3. Just read this myself. It's great that Randy's back. I see this being his way to get out of the UFC legally. But still there's a plus Randy's back. He's building a magical gameplan topick Lesnar apart. You have to remember Lesnar only has 3 profights. And of those fights one opponent was a can with a small record. The second being Frank Mir who had less than stellar preformances since returning from his injury. And Herring's about a 50/50 fighter. Lesnar lacks experince in the octogon and in mma in general. He's a great wrestler no doubt noone can take that away from him. He's just nothad the time to be put into some of the gut check type situations that verterns of the sport have been in. Never bet against Captin American.
  4. I just read that this fight is taking place in the 205 pound weight class. Who has the advantage? Both fighters as talented, and both have fought this weight class in the past. Rich has spent the lastseveral years at middle weight. Hamill has the advantage in wrestling but not in submissions. Franklin has a wealth of fight experince in the cage. This fight will lead into the main event. Hamill has never had the pressure of such a high profile fight nor has he faced a fighter of Franklin's caliber. Some think Hamill can wear Franklin down. Some think Rich will use angles and striking to keep Hamill at bay to win via decision. Personally I see Hamill getting Rich to the ground but even once the fight gets the Franklin still has the advantage due to his jujitsu. But the major factor is Hamill has only has 5 pro fights were Franklin has 27, I see experince paying of in this one. What's everyones thoughts? Here's the link to the article that brought on these questions: http://sherdog.com/news/articles/ufc-88-breakdown-franklin-vs-hamill-14256

  6. Hello, Please post your picks for this event, as part of KarateForums.com MMA Picks, as a reply to this thread. The fight card is below. You may choose both the match winner and the method of winning (either submission, knockout/technical knockout or decision). For example, if you'd like to select Bruce Lee to win by submission, you could say "Bruce Lee, Submission" or "Bruce Lee, Sub". "Sub" or "S" can be used as shorthand for submission, KO can be used for knockout/technical knockout, which are considered the same thing as far as these picks are concerned and "Dec" or "D" can be used for a win by decision. Even if you don't know much about a fighter or have no idea about the method, you are encouraged to pick a winner and method in all matches to maximize your chances of winning. For full guidelines, please review the KarateForums.com MMA Picks User Guidelines. Picks for this event are due by 12:00 AM ET on Saturday September 6, 2008. Here are the fights that you may pick: Main Card Bouts: Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill Nate Marquardt vs. Martin Kampmann Dan Henderson vs. Rousimar Palhares Karo Parisyan vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida Preliminary Bouts: Dong Hyun Kim vs. Matt Brown Kurt Pellegrino vs. Thiago Tavares Roan Carneiro vs. Ryo Chonan Mike Patt vs. Tim Boetsch Jason Lambert vs. Jason MacDonald Full standings: To come after first event. 7. As said congrates on you life style change. I know how you feel I've been training constantly for four years. And some new stuff my sensei will throw at me make feel like a beinger again. Give your self some time training and it won't seem as bad. Things just feel unnatural because they are new. Just open your mind and don't pressure yourself too much, just have fun with it.
  8. I agree with most of the reasons you guys have laid out. But I think mainly as said in the posts above me, most see black belt as the end of their journey. And the ranks come after years and not months.
  9. Hey Patrick thanks for all the hard work on this and bringing to reality. Let have fun with it.
  10. In my my school it's tip for tap. If you're around the same rank you give what you get. If he's pretty new he's not learned to control his contact. But if all else fails talk to your instructor. I've been in the same situation and when I approached my instructor the answer I got was surprising. He told me he had known for quite some time. He also told me that he was surprised I waited so longto do anything. Also he toldme it's give what you get and on the paticular person he told me leg kicks and body shots. I always waited for the sign from my instructor during sparring and when I saw it I knew it was my time to teach the leason of give and take. But each case in each dojo is going to handled diffrently.
  11. You only need your ma peers and a place to train. The dojo I'm in has only been in the locations it's in now for about three years but has be everywhere around where I live. I haven't been in with the group I'm with but four years. But in the past some of the guys I'm training with were training in garages, backyards, or were ever they could get together. A dojo is just a meeting place forlike minded martial artist. Even if it's your sensei's backyard.
  12. I think that there has to be someone who knows the proper technique. And somehow I see that they must train/trained in a picticular art to have the knowledge. I have grappled alot in my day. I have been to a few seminars and trained with alot of people who have done jujitsu but I will always tell someone I've rolled alot and watch alot of fight tape and read alot of books. You need someone who have trained quite a bit because they can spot improper techinque. But I can agree with everyones thoughts here. At my dojo we do alot what if's and tell me howthis works and work though the move until it works for that indiviual.
  13. From what I have read Tito isn't signed yet.But there has been a meeting with the big wiggs of Affliction. Personally I think Tito is trying to build some hype for him self. And on the money side of the isssue Tito isn't drawing the crowds to be demanding the money he wants. Also you have to premform to get the big money and he's just not there anymore.
  14. I know at our school and a few others we pay by the class. We allow people to pay by the month and if they miss they are credited for that missed class. The way we keep up with this is making that student sign in and date it upon arrival that way there is no doubt about when the were there. It works out pretty good and some people even comment on it they they at others schools felt like they were getting ripped off because of only getting to make it in a couple times a month and still had to pay the same as someone training 3 times a week.
  15. I agree Anderson looked good at 205. But he needed someone would would test him a little more than Irvin is able too. The result was about whatI figured it would be.
  16. NES all the way. If I couldonly shoot the dog on duck hunt.
  17. This helps greatly relaxation. When you tense up during a fight or submission match you tend to hold you breath and you heart reate and blood pressure sky rocket. Thus causing you to gas early. When relaxed you will move more fluidly and punches will be snappy and not stiff. Personally I use to completely freak out when put in a guilletin. The reason was I had beenfinished with this choke and it came fast. I thought I had little time to get out. Now that I'm wiser I know that even if caught good I've got a better than adverage chance to get out. Llyod Irvin use to send out a news letter teaching you how to relax. I used the tips within them and have also showed them to my Sensei and he liked them and we implimented them into our training and the have worked for everyone in the dojo in one way or another. Relaxationis the key to fighting or grappling better. I take time to be relaxed when someone puts you on the wall and is throwing and endless flury. But you'll learn not to panic and look for you spot. On this also you need to find your style of fighting and you'll be more relaxed too.
  18. You can use your martial art training in a fight. You just have to be confident in your skills. Also you have to choose what particular moves are not going to work. Forexample I wouldn't throw a a jump spinning heel kick (even if I could pull this off in the gym). You will be more relaxed in said situation if you spar the way you intend on fighting. By this I don't mean throwing hard in training just stylisticly practice combos, put yourself in situations that may occur in a fight.
  19. Welcome. Gladto have you here.
  20. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
  21. My brother and I are the only ones in our line who train. It stated with him and progressed to myself. We both are hoping our children take it upas well.
  22. He probably walks around over 200 pounds anyway. On a side note I was listening a radio show from last year. They we talking about Anderson having double knee surgery 11 weeks before he fought Travis Lutter. That's a tough dude.
  23. More news broke yesterday with Anderson. He wants tobounce between middle weight and light heavy. Going after the 205 lb belt and defend both belts on a regular basis. He also feels he needs to be fighting more often to prove he's the best fighter in the world.
  24. Welcome.
