  3. I really like I'm glad one of the guys in my dojo decided he wanted to throw elbows. I don't see the need for knee pads yet. I put most of my knees to the body anyways.
  4. I like Eddie's stuff. I've been looking at his rubber guard stuff for about a year or so now and it's still mind boggling and I've recently started to look into the twister wow. He's amazing.
  5. As long as you don't fall into his ego game. I don't train in a bjj or sub wrestling school but most of the upper belts have trained a tiny bit in either wrestling , judo, or jujitsu or a combonation of these. I feel a sence of accomplishment when rolling with a practicioner of these arts if I can just hang with or frustrate them.
  6. Well all got the regular size. And we are three completely diffrent body sizes. They a neopriene sleeve so you'll have to be pretty big before you need a large. I too was skeptical but they are really a great product. I basically got mine because I wasn't able to throw elbow and the other guys would be. Turns out I like these babies.
  7. These are from the Combat Sport product line. Myself and some of the guys at my dojo purchased these and got to try them out last night. We had been limited to just trying to touch with elbows when in the clinch and on the ground. I would recommend that anyone training that involves striking oon the ground get these or a like product. It'll put a whole to side to you sparring rounds. I took a couple shots and they done their job and there's no soreness this morning. But I in turn knew I had been hit.The down side to these is that you sparring partner can pull them down. If there is alot of pumbling they may slip depending on how tight the pumbling is. Again they add a new level to the striking even on the feet. It's nice to not hold back as much on an elbow. If anyone else has or is using these during their sparring sessions let's here you thoughts. I wish I had gotten these long before now. Here's the link to the product so you guys can see what the product looks like: http://www.combatsports.com/detail.aspx?ID=23731
  8. Never thought of that ps1 because they have all attmited to going to the submission 101 web site and trying to learn things. I'm all up for anyone learning how ever it takes. But I believe you have to have a very good working knowledge before you can look at a video or book with a series of pictures and be able to learn a move. And then you still need to work the kinks out of it with someone with the ablility to tell you something is or isn';t working. I just thought of something fun that may work. I a video clip with Eddie Bravo he's talking about guys T-Rexing. Which is when a guy freezes up and pulls his arms into his chest like the T-Rex. He slaps the guy in the head repeatedly to make them move. Mind you they are not hard slaps just lite and in rapid succession enough to anoy one enough to move.
  9. There always seems to be one in every class. We have weeded ours out.
  10. True ps1 but this is something they have to work toward.
  11. Taikyoku sho Heian Sho Heian Ni Heian Son Heian Yo Heian Go Pinan Go Tekki Sho Tekki Ni Nahanchi San Bassia Dia Konku This excludes the katas I have forgotten from when I was practising Shorin Ryu
  12. Shori here's another that may be good for the guys at the dojo too:
  13. Don't worry about the gi color and go in with an open mind willing to learn all that you can. I wore a blue judo gi through most of my time as student in my Kempo school. Which work out kind of neat. I was reconized by everyone in the adult class and the kid's parents knew if they saw the blue gi the kids would be ok. I now wear a black iron man and also have a black judo gi. The reason for the color change on my part is that when reaching first dan I earned the right to wear black.
  14. Yeah I think I added most of them to my favorites in my youtube account.
  15. R.I.P. Mask Here's a couple links to the story: http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=8359&zoneid=2 http://mmajunkie.com/news/14232/tapouts-mask-killed-in-early-morning-auto-accident.mma

  21. Welcome aboard. I broke the starting late mold for you lol! I earned my shodan at the age of 28. So start late it can be done.
  22. I don't have one but my understanind is there are a couple small bags of sand in the bottom for weight. and the rest is stuff with rags. You'll have to keep adding rags over time as the compact and settle lower in the bag.
  23. There are times when hard sparring is good and when it isn't. You don't want to go blasting a new students who may have never even been in a conflict. This is a way to drive a good student away. New martial artist will become frustated and overwelmed very easily. There are times to spar lightly. Such as learning to put combos together under distress, adding new technique to your fight game. And teaching new people to look for opening in there opponents guard. I belive that more seasoned students should able to spar full speed and at any contact leavel nessecrey. I personally prefer full contact.
