  1. I want the flying triangle and knee bar. May start working them shortly.
  2. I've been pondering on the same thing who's next. I think Kimbo will have to start fight guys who are lagitmate fighters. I mean he's pretty much fought cans since he started his carreer. He's fighting guys way past they glory days. He first fought Bo Cantrell who was on a four fight loosing streak with and over all record of 10-10 before their fight. His second opppnent was David "Tank" Abbott who had lost four of his last five fights with and overall record of 9-14. Then came James Thompson who had won two of his last five with an overall record of 14-9. So until Seth came along he was fighting older fighters that weren't that good. So to rebuild his reputation and to be considered a ligit fighter he's going to have to fight so good fighters that are pretty good not just big names.
  3. Take it by all means. You instructor will see that there training you is paying off. They may question in why you did not seize the opening that they left. Most instructors will by no means be up set if you get the better of them in a sparring match. And as others above have said it will help both of you. For you it's the ability of spotting weakness and exposing it very quickly or repeditavely. For the other they fid out what areas they need to work on and improve. It's a win win situation for both of you.
  4. Flying heel hook narrated by Josh Barrnett:
  5. I would have to say good card. I didn't get to see the fights the first time they went there but heard the fights were pretty good.

  8. I've been on the failing side of a promotion. I fell apart during the test. Nerves got me. I was given two weeks to gather myself and test again. I swore to myself that day I would never fail another grading in the martial arts. I took an eight year lay off and started from scratch. I remembered my promise to myself and held true and trained hard for every promotion in my new dojo. I remembered that aweful tast of failure and the anger I choked back when having to tell people that I failed for just two weeks. I still look back on that test as an important step in my journey in the martial arts. You can build use this in a positative way. Let this anger turn into a burning focus to drive you to improvement. Don't let this get you down use it to you advantage to sho them how good you really are.
  9. There also flying heel hooks and knee bars. A great example of a flying heel hook came in the last fight Anderson Silva lost.
  10. Congratulations!! Enjoy the belt of many colors.
  11. Good evening everyone. Just to let everyone know there's just over 1 day to get your picks in for this card. I will close a midnight Saturday. Thanks for you interrest and particapation.
  12. Hello, Please post your picks for this event, as part of KarateForums.com MMA Picks, as a reply to this thread. The fight card is below. You may choose both the match winner and the method of winning (either submission, knockout/technical knockout or decision). For example, if you'd like to select Bruce Lee to win by submission, you could say "Bruce Lee, Submission" or "Bruce Lee, Sub". "Sub" or "S" can be used as shorthand for submission, KO can be used for knockout/technical knockout, which are considered the same thing as far as these picks are concerned and "Dec" or "D" can be used for a win by decision. Even if you don't know much about a fighter or have no idea about the method, you are encouraged to pick a winner and method in all matches to maximize your chances of winning. 13. I'll have to agree with Bushido_man on this one. I look at it as if it were myself or the other person. And personally I want to be the one to walk away.
  14. Job well done. Hard work pays off. Congratulations!
  15. Shock doctor makes an excellent cup. It's a must have for martial artist. You can get it with compression shorts that have the pocket for the cup on the front. It's more comfortable than the traditional jock. It's around $30 buck most anywhere you find itand it's worth every penny.
  16. It's been five months since I wrote the opening thread here. Alot has been learned and the eyes are starting to focus a little easier as a black belt. I'm seeing the hidden technique and bunki without people pointingit out. There are new students to share my experinces and knowledge with. I talked with my brother person to person about this. I am no longer unconfortable with my title. As someone said I look around for other senior black belt when I here sensei called out. I guess it was just part of the "weight" of being a black belt putting a strain on me. I do thank all of you guys for sharing your experinces and thoughts with me.

Here's the link to the entire break down for the first black belts at the Makotokan Dojo: http://www.karateforums.com/what-s-in-your-black-belt-grading-vt32866.html It was worth every minute of suffering.

  24. If you can find a video on the net of just the knock out. Wow it looked bad and it took a few minutes for Chuck to come around afterwards. Very nasty looking knock out. I was actually concernd because of how Chuck landed and how he looked before coming to. Very hard punch. Hat off Rashad very well done.
