Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Promotion
pittbullJudoka replied to pittbullJudoka's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
One day a week since July is really paying off. -
I was just pondering what I've done in the last year in my martial arts career. I just thought this would be a great topic here at Karateforums. My improvements have been my teaching abilities have come along decently, of course my grappling with the bjj training, and the one best one is a combined effort of myself and many others in building our kids class from one student of around 8 to 10 additional kids. Enough about my year let's hear the other stories of success.
-
Well I went to the gym for my weekly dose of BJJ this morning. On my drive there I just wasn't feeling it today. But I had decided to make the best of it since I only get to do this once a week. The technique portion of class was great. Learning some new angles on old moves and new combonations. Got very minor corrections made on the new moves I'd learned and som complements from my instructor. As we started to roll I still wasn't feeling in the zone. I decided to try things I had learned in the past but not applied during sparring. I rolled myself right into a couple submissions. After rolling with the five others in attendance I rolled with my instructor this was the round I felt went really well. Not that I can do anything with him I just reconized when I was about to screw up and made the proper adjustments. As we lined up to end class the instructor grabbed his tape to stripe someone. I looked up the line and figured it was either the guy that has three stripes or the guys who had two already. My name was called. What? Me? I totally surprised by this since I had promoted just a few weeks prior. To say the least I did not expect this especially since I didn't think I had done that well with the others with exception of the instructor. I may have had a mental block on the other guys since I just wasn't feeling it. But I know no matter how bad you feel or how bad you've done when you roll with the instructor you have to turn your game up a notch. I'm proving to myself that a dream is coming true little by little. I've been wanting to train in a grappling style under a good instructor since I started back in the martial arts. It has taken my five years to be able to do this and I now loving every minute of it. Guys and gals even if you can only train one time a week for a couple hours that one day it helps. I have always studied grappling and submissions mostly from text and videos trying to make up for not having the chance to have actual instruction.I have always thought I picked grappling techniques up fairly quick and been pretty good for having no formal training. But I can say since starting in July I can tell a dramatic improvement in my ground game. Thanks to my instructors for the great amount of knowledge they have passed to me. For without their knowledge I would not have my knowledge. Train smart, Train Hard, be true to yourself and others and your dreams will come true.

UFC 104; Judges Smudges!
pittbullJudoka replied to sensei8's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
First off when you don't finish your opponent and let the judges decide anything can happen. I've not seen the fight but from evrything I read on it Machida landed more power shots. When you are the challenger to a title your job is to knockout, submit, or decisively beat the champion. If you think this fight was a fix look deep into the early days of mma. Most of the early tournament style UFC brackets were rigged so Royce would face certain fighters also some fighter were even diallowed for fear they would handely beat Royce. Just some food for thought. -

Hey guys I was wondering about the type of hobbies the members on here have. This of course is ooutside of the Martial Arts. Sorry if this has been posted before. Also hobbies you want to try. But I'll start it off. Hobbies other than Kempo and BJJ: Video Games I'm on ps3(COD 4 for now pm me would like to set a private game sometime) Building models (muscle cars mostly) Hunting Target Shooting As for what I'd like to try Indian Bead work, Hide taining, knife making. So let's here it. I know we are doing other things of interest.

Glad to see you're in the martial arts. Usally if an instructor sees you're serious about training and you explain you financial situation they will work with you. For instant I can't afford the normal monthly fees at the place I train my bjj but due to my work scheule I can only make one class a week they cut me a hughe discount. And at the dojo I teach out of we will work with those who are or want to train that have a money situation. We may work a deal out that that person clean gear for dues. We just want people to have the chance to learn as we did.

Heavy bag work will alson help toughen the knuckles. But the makiwari work will work the quickest. You will built calicum deposits making the knuckles thicker and naturally tougher. Also working the makiwari will desencitize the them. You'll notice it it working when you are striking harder with lees pain on the striking post. Kinda works the same way when one conditions the shins.

A black belt isn't... A reason to register your hands as deadly weapons at the local pd! (LOL) A bragging right it's an honor. For the average person.

Dan Testing
pittbullJudoka replied to white owl's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
First off good luck on your grading. Personally I got a little nervous. But I felt really good on the morning of me test and very confident in what my instructors had taught me. The real nerves really kicked in while the canadets sat outside the dojo waiting to be called in one by one to get our pass fail results. But after is was over it wasn't as hard of a test as I expected. I thought my test for my brown belt was harder but I felt apart mentally before that one too. -
Fedor, Strikeforce, and Dana White
pittbullJudoka replied to isshinryu5toforever's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
Unless Dana meets some of Fedor's stipulations we'll never see him in the UFC. Fedor likes to be able to compete when he feels like not at the desire of the organization. Fedor still likes to compete in Sanbo matches, and mixed martial arts in Russia. Dana likes to have fighters signed to exclusive contract that the fighters can only compete for the UFC. Dana also thinks that if Fedor is the best he'll be able to bet Lesnar. But let's say they fight and Fedor looses Dana then has the grounds to say he's not a top tier fighter. Fedor vs. Randy is a match that alot of people would like to see. -
