Changing my diet for tournament?
pittbullJudoka replied to BarbedTerror's topic in Health and Fitness
A change in diet this late in the game won't help unless like mentioned above your trying to drop a few pound to a lower weight class. And I mean a few. You should look a cardiio that with the biggest thing you can change in four weeks. I prefer an eight week training camp for any type of competion that way I get my weight in check and boost my cardio so I'm peaking on the week of the competion. -
One I like is a positional flow. Start with your partner in your guard, scissor sweep to mount, go to side control, then to north-south, to side controll (on the opposite side you started), knee on belly, back to mount. Your partner then shrimps to half guard then on to full guard. They then gets to run through the postions.

The guard
pittbullJudoka replied to straightblast's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The guard is a tricky place to be. To keep from being smashed you have to have a sence of ergency to make something happen. Also you have to train how to defend strikes from your back it not as easy as some would like to think but it defenately not some place I would want to hang out. -
ps1 I agree with you on as theexperince level goes up so does the pace. I often end up picking the pace up a little more each round that is added until its full out sparing. As for backing up and letting my partner counter yes and no depending on the move and if they have a escape that preceeds the final position.
-
Another thing to add to ps1's post. We do positional rolling of sub for sub. You roll very lightly with some what natural reactions with 10% resistance looknig for submission opprtunities. After sumitting you partner hold the postion as to let them exicute the proper counter or escape. This lets you drill both asspects of attack and defence. Too if you are having a problem this a given sub or escape you can get extra reps in on the the application or counter. This is very helpful and also give you mind a workout as well it lets you slow the action of rolling down to a manageable pace for the less experinced.

Jiu Jitsu Gis
pittbullJudoka replied to Ueshirokarate's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I've used pro Pro Force judo gis and I'm currently using Krugens. I like my Krugens but there are many I'd like to try but money stops me. -
I'm not the best instructor when it comes to the kids program but I think I could have done better than that. I believe he could have just talked to your child and got the point across and then helped the other child in the area he needed help with no one getting knocked down or hurt. My question here is this the regular instructor? Sounds like this person is only use to dealing with adults.

New Acadamy
pittbullJudoka replied to tallgeese's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
tallgeese I know what you mean about going into a new school and loyalty to the old one. I felt the same way when I started bjj but I was just joing a second school even though my original school was of a stand up style. I drive 1.5 hours each way to my bjj school. But I can't image training under any other bjj instructor. I mean I've even drove almost 2 hours one way to train with my instructor. The only way I could do any better would be going to Samuel Braga's school but the drive would only be about ten minutes shorter. Atleast the new school has what you are wanting in a place to train. Also as you staed knowing some people there will help with the transition. Good luck at your new home. -
4th stripe

Congrats my jiu jitsu brother. Just train hard and have confidense in you skill set you'll do fine. -
I would prefer to hang dry my gi but if I do use the clothes dryer I set it on the lowest heat, shortest time cycle. I procrastinate on washing my gi and thats the only reason mine ends up in the dryer. Never had any problems using the dryer under the mentioned settings.

I'm pretty sure the only way I'd really break something on someone would be in a competion where it's definately up to the opponent and reff's job to stop the action before that is the out come. And of course a self defense situation. Now the second question. What if the non tapping individual is say around three years training and hoping to hold out long enough you bail on the position and then trys to go full bore as you're giving them a get out of jail free card?
-
I've often told people it's not my job to let go of a submission because my opponent doesn't want to tap. Let me explain this in my opinion now. I roll will people from black belt to beginer when doing jiu jitsu. The beginer I'll let go of a sub due to their lack of knowledge of when to tap. Now on the other hand someone who's been training for atleast a year they know their own body's limitations. Thus if the choke is set and tight or the armbar is locked, why do they refuse to tap? My opinion on this varies from person to person. (I train BJJ at another gym from where I teach)For example 0ne of my students refuses to tap due to the fact he's bigger and stronger than myself. He wants to say he was caught by a blue belt in BJJ with their best technique and they couldn't finish. I've had armbars on this person and I know for a fact there was not more room for the arm to extend and felt small pops before he tapped. Days later he would talk about his arm being sore from doing something else.( Never would admit he let the arm go too long). Today during my BJJ class I had a choke set deep and the guy went out. I'm talking he's snoring in my guard. I released the choke soon as I realized he's out. His bewildered look comfirmed to me he was out. He then states he passed out for a second. Sparring continued as normal except he had to tell everyone else he rolled with he passed out for a second. Really you passed out during the choke and not because of it. He then refused to roll with me anymore the rest of class. No big deal. My question is why is it so hard for someone to get caught in a sub and not tap and reset and learn from their mistakes? I am by not means a ruthless person on the mat I feel bad if hurt someone during training. But if they've been training for awhile and refuse to tap I have no problem putting them to sleep or breaking a limb. I may feel bad about the broken limb after this happens but wouldn't it really be their fault? So again who's job is it to tap?

I can't imagine the fights you guys had as kids. Well, it was an interesting childhood. These days, we're the guys no one stops when we spar too hard or try to see which one needs less blood to remain upright and alert. Heck, he made me real pretty for Christmas pictures last year. He's a great training partner. Yeah, I brag on the guy now and then. He may brag on me but the real bragging should be Shorikid for the martial artist he's made me stand up wise. Heck he's on of the toughest bjj guys that's never trained in bjj. I just try to pass stuff on to improve my students that I call friends. -

Remembering Brandon Lee
pittbullJudoka replied to Alaskandude's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
It doesn't that it was that long ago when he was taken from us. I remember that I had just started watching his films thanks to my older brother shortly before he passed. But I remember being at my grandparents house for dinner and it came on some entertainment new show my grandmother was watching. I also remember going to see The Crow in the theater when it came out. I still have The Crow movie poster hanging at my parents house from the theater I watched the movie at and the last I checked I still had my ticket stub. But anyway R.I.P. Brandon Lee -
It's funny how those little details make all the diffrence in the world. One other thing that people seem to do is let their elbow drift outward. You should try to pintch your elbows together as much as possible and try to stay ear to ear with the person as you walk around tightening the choke. This will turn their head into your arm making things even tighter.

Karate Forums Posters Anonymous (?)
pittbullJudoka replied to still kicking's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Still Kicking I can agree with the being hesitant on posting since some thoughts are hard to constructinto written form. But I never fear being tracked down and being ridiculed for what I say on here. My biggest reson for not posting is the difficulty of putting things in writting and possibly being misinderstood to the point of someone becoming upset. I actually tell my students about this site and encourage them to use it if they are looking for an online martial arts forum. I mean the other instructor at my school also posts on he on a regular basis. Everyone is entitled to speak their mind without fear of retaliation. If someone was to find your postings on here no big deal unless you're being slanderous. So I say post away my friend you may find you'll get good advice and someone else on here may have been through what you are dealing with and have the experince you seek in this situation. -
Defences to try against someone who 'blitzes' suggestions ?
pittbullJudoka replied to hertsmas's topic in Karate
Work on your angles because your opponent will always be able to move forward faster than you can go backwards. You should always go by the rule 1 step, 2 steps, 3steps dead. We have always went by this in my dojo and it was re-enforced when a friend of mine that is a pro mma fighter taught a seminar at my dojo. If you're cutting angles properly you are also cutting half their weapons off. Also work firing counter attacks imediatley after you angle of the center line of attack. Doing this gives you time to reset and prepare for your next exchange.
