Wearing your uniform outside of class
pittbullJudoka replied to IcemanSK's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It's been years since I've seen an adult walking about in a full gi and belt in public but when I use to it strike me as funny. The reason being was I would see them at the local Wal-Mart and they would tend to gather up in a group and talk. It was almost like seeing a gang of karateka there would be so many of them in the group. I would often think of the group how many I could take out before they got me incopassitated. -

I am for most part in agreement with you. I can see the kids wearing them due to the fact of trying to get kids to chanage out before and after their classes. As for the adult asspect I don't see why it would ever happen. They should be mature enough to get to class in enough time to change before hand. And shouldn't be to lazy to change afterwords. -
Help with the ridge hand
pittbullJudoka replied to skullsplitter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I use video constantly review tape on my bjj to see why a sub or position didn't work for me. In fact I reviewed tape from Tuesday night this morning. I love it when I can see stuff that I can capitalize on. -
Help with the ridge hand
pittbullJudoka replied to skullsplitter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
DWx that's one of the best things to do. I don't know why I didn't think of that with as much tape as I watch on myself and the others in my dojo just to help improve technique. It's an under utilized tool in my opinion. -
Help with the ridge hand
pittbullJudoka replied to skullsplitter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ask your instructor for help. He knows your sparring style best and could give you some pointers on what block or evastions that would work best for you. Have you sparring mates to throw some ridge hands in there so you can get some live practise at the defense of the techinque. -
You're never too old to start in the martial arts. I started back into them when I was 24 and recieved my shodan just after I turned 27 then started BJJ at 30. I sometimes wish I had started BJJ earlier but atleast I'm doing it. It's never too late. There's stories out there of people starting in some style of martial art in their 50's and 60's and going great. Just find the art you enjoy and have fun with it.

The Judo can be modified for his wrestling with no gi Karo Paryissan done this very well in his mma career. Also if he does no gi bjj it will work bueatifully with his wrestling. As far as bjj working off the back more this is true to some extent. Also he'll have to be able to make the transition from one to the other which should be that difficult for him. Let him see both in action then see where he stands on which one interests him more.

Well I was watching some tv after work yesterday and this came on and I figured it worked well on here and other would want to see it.

Things click and unclick with me all the time. My ground work clicks more often than my stand up.

I've been a fan of his since his early days in the WEC. It's is dominer that I like. Sure The trash talk is fun sometimes, but also acts like this are way better.

Just watched a UFC Ultimate Insider that had Brian Stann on it. If you didn't know Brian Stann was an active duty Marine who served three tours in Iraq. They interviewed him about the time he was there. Very surreal to see what this man has been through. Is a really good watch if you can catch a rerun.

BJJ vs. Judo
pittbullJudoka replied to Ueshirokarate's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
And so many today think that MMA is a new concept. Aren't you truel a mixed martial artist if you train more than one style? I mean I the way I see it if I am training in a stand up style and a grappling style I'm a mixed martial artist. And before the blasting starts I will say that people have the ability to train in both stand up and grappling but not everyone who doe so can stream them together or mix them well enough to flow from one to the other and flow back. -
BJJ vs. Judo
pittbullJudoka replied to Ueshirokarate's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I can agree with you completely on everything you said in your post. BJJ has been a great compliment to my karate as well. I never had the chance to practice Judo but thankfully my instructor trained in Judo and we have a 3rd Dan Judoka who trains in our school who will willing teach you anything you ask her. I have re worked my schools entire grappling program from the ground up. Mostly changing what we were taught to the correct form. As instructors in the past did not have the opportunity to train with grappling expects as I have. It's my way to learn another art and give back to my Dojo at the same time. -
Employees fired for stopping shoplifter
pittbullJudoka replied to JusticeZero's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've seen somethingsimularat the Wal-Mart I work at. A memeber of management tackled a suspected shop lifter at the front doors and was given his walking papers. For the first reason this wasn't his first time comitting such an act. Secondly the company has a zero touch policy on apprehending shop lifters. Meaning if they are confronted and ask to come with the loss prevention associate and they make a run for it, the nconfrintation ends there. No on the other hand last week employees of a Huston area Wal-Mart call the police on a disorderly drunk. at 2:30 A.M. and an office responcded to the call and was pronouced dead at the sence at 2:44 A.M. A couple of employees disarmed and wrestled the suspect to the ground and Wal- Mart is singing praises to them. So go figure. -

And it sets up that knockout so nicely. This is my go to kicking target. I only weigh around 130 and this is how I beat guys twice my size. I know what you mean there it's a favorite of mine as well. -
Front kick in MMA
pittbullJudoka replied to Dobie1979's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
What I'd like to see mma fighters untilize is the front kick to the hip crease. As it is very effective at disruppting timing, foot work, and breaking the posture of your opponent. -
Mr. Hall handeled him very well in that situation. As with anyone under the influince you never know when they are going to decide they are superman. Since the camera was at the best angle of the final confrentation outside we'll never know what the trigger was Hall to put him to sleep. Ryan must have seen something that made decide to end the situation.
