i am agree with "Angela"'s first post, but i think the main reason was in "Killer Miller"(as he mentioned not only breathing but also timming of breathing)post, i do Sanchin and Naihanchi Sandan with shime, for me it is a muscle and breathing exercise, one more thing is ,if you start shaking it's too much and can disturbe your blood circulation ,i'd like to know how far every body else goes. Jedmic, what style of karate you practice? ,do you have name for the katas or numbers?

I am a white belt ,every time my sensei uses a marker and add some yellow to my belt, hopefully after some times i'll be a yellow belt.

thank you ,very good discovery. -

go to https://www.wonder-okinawa.jp under okinawan karate look for Naha-te ,under naha-te look for ryuei ryu katas, down load "Anan" kata and check it out. also "Gojushiho" looks good. kusanku dai is good too. if your are into kata business in tournoments then you need to know some katas from different styles. normally from Goju ryu or shito-ryu. although sensei Sakamoto won the world title mainly by Ryuei ryu katas.

I just injured my knee last week, while sparring it poped and i fell down after one week i went back to class again it poped, it is not swelling ,also no pain , but i can't bend it like before, this second popping scared me i put a a brace on and going to doctor ASAP, i hope it is not my minescus(spl?) I think you should take it easy, it took me 7 months to heal a febula(spl?) since i was practicing on it.

I don't care about self defense that much anymore, i like to learn a art, preserve it and may be pass it on one day, that's why i ended up with a traditional style, I also practice other styles just to gain some basic knowledge.

here is my first test in shindo jenin ryu, around 10 people tested from 10th kyu to 1th kyu i wasa 10th kyu(although i was a brown belt in shorin ryu) 1- we did basics , i was very bad on that part 2- we did wazas ,i did ok 3- we did bunkai , i was so so 4- we did kata , i did Naihanchi(tekki) shodan from shorin ryu and pinan shodan(nidan in shorin) of shindo jenin ryu, I had a broken fibula on that time and was not able to perform the kata strongly i just did the correct moves. 5- we sparred , i won both 3 points matches against a 1st kyu and a 6kyu .they promoted me to 4th kyu. that was pretty funny ,i was at the back of the line the next day i was behind the black belts. my tip. don't you worry for anything.

yah but flood already stoped , i don't think you really need a seperate section for kenpo, we can use your ideas and thoughts in karate section.

elliotspirrett, i don't know anything your club and the other club but don't get mad on her, sometimes traditional martial artists just can't tolorate the new sportive styles, just imagine you are a traditional karate-ka and you see some body with a shodan in a art suddenly call himself a soke and starts a new style by changing some katas or wazas and naturally becomes a 10 dan in his art and in 10 years has a branch next to your dojo, well you won't feel good too. as far as bashing a compatitor ,I am with you. in any business and particularly in martial arts. what do you think of getting some classes with her and have a close look.

CapitalKarate, to my best knowledge none of the shorin ryu styles ues high kicks, as shorinryu sensei mentioned the risk is high. we mostly go for knee and groin. but in sparring we do use high kicks to the head time by time.

why they call it bassai san? i've seen tomari passai it's a old kata.

Importance of Web Presence for MA Schools
P.A.L replied to pressureguy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
shorinryu sensei, what you do is great, I went to a Korean MA class for one month, yesterday they sent me a letter ,they offered 3 options 1- blue belt for around $1000 2-brown belt $2000 3- black belt for around $3500, each belt test around $50 ,shodan test $200 or $300. of cource they have bills to pay i underestand but i just don't feel comfortable. -
it's a long story but if you are a little bit over weight now.in general 2500 cal. not more than 3000 anyway. 45-60 min workout daily you need more rep. not heavier weights. after 2 months you should see some results.

I like Frederick Forsyth style(the day of the jackal) he goes into so detail that really educated his readers. The government guy reads the resume ,he is impressed but not too impressed , there is some thing about her , so he calls his connections and news comes from FBI informants. She was the only female who fought a thai boxing champion in a illegal under ground Match in L.A. , it was bloody but short . thai boxer was dead in less than a minute in the hands of some of the biggest south asia gamblers , she disappeared but cost them more than $10 million in lost debt….. and of course she is a master of Okinawan tuite and white crane Kong Fu. she grew up in Hawaii and traind by a Oki. American Master , her good balance comes from long hours of surffing(not internet).

cross train?
P.A.L replied to MFGQ's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
IMHO BJJ or Judo(Particularly the concepts of falling and throws) is a good choice , I used to practice BJJ ,actually with my shorin-ryu sensei ,he took all of us with him to BJJ for 6 months now we practice ground fighting in our shorin ryu class as well as regular grappling of tuite. if you ask your sensei about tuite you will be surprised about the depth of grappling in okinawan karate(I would add Wado-ryu to this list too) . Now for us as karate ka learning ground fighting is useful at least as sensei Darrell Craig(very knowledgeable master in Kendo and other Jap. MA) says “you get some idea of what they are capable of” . -
Sparring Against Little Control
P.A.L replied to KnifeHand's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
this reminds me of a belt test in which a brown belt with your size had to spar againt a 3rd dan with your opponent size , our brown belt started to move in and 3 times took him down to the floor. he did realy good, in very close range the tall guy was not able to use the full power of his fist and legs. if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger. -
neji84, welcome to KF, it's cool that you know bassai and also practice ryuei-ryu. I love all the ryuei ryu kata although I practice shorin, what version of bassai you practice? we practice Itosu no passai and Matsumura no passai. I have watched Sakamoto doing Anan in 1984 karate world cup , he is a great karate-ka.
